Re-title it "For the sake of screwing over Kovac" and it might get some more respondents.

Re: For the Amokolians!
We've established that - seeing as there are no Ocian forces in Amokolia - they have de facto independence.

Although as independence hasn't been actually gained/won yet, they're still Ocian on the map...

Just making sure Jess was eligible for the same award, as he clearly didn't notice the blindingly obvious

Because if it didn't already exist, then it would be "to gain Amokolian Independence". Maintaining means that you're continuing the present condition, so by definition, you have to be maintaining something that already exists.Craitman wrote:How can one maintain something that doesn't already exist?Jess wrote:to maintain the Amokolian Independence

Chrim, that's surprisingly the point I was making. They can't maintain independence as they don't have it. The war is being fought to gain it...

Re: For the Amokolians!
But you said "How can one maintain something that doesn't already exist?"
The way that reads, it seems that you're making the point that it already exists, and that therefore you can't maintain it.

By saying it doesn't exist, I'm saying it exists? Okay
I can't really see how it can be read like that. "How can't one maintain something that already exists?" would be the question to be read like that.
Anyway... Anybody fancy joining the Amokolian forces to gain independence?

Re: For the Amokolians!
Do you not have negative questions in Britain? The "already" also reinforces that interpretation, because it adds an expectation that Amokolia has gained its independence.

That would be "Don't you have"...
Anyway, I get Craitman's words as "Doesn't exist now, but can exist in future"
