Terrain Maps
Seems as theres all this talk about people making maps for others, I may as well present my own little 'deal'. I'll be willing to make some terrain maps for people, similar to the one I did for Livlandia. See below.
Livlandia Terrain Map
If you wish to have one, could you give a fairly detailed description of which terrains you want where. I can provide a form, if wanted.

Granted they actually make sense when compared to the physical mapArtz wrote:which terrains you want where.
I'm guessing that Livlandian desert is a cold one, though, even if it is improbably close to the coast

Desert/beach/sandy area
Well, I didn't say they had to be official.. they're more show-maps.. but, of course, where any MCS maps say 'theres a mountain!'.. I'd expect to be told. I'm not like you, craitman, I don't know the maps inside out

Re: Terrain Maps
Which is why the maps are all available to the public on the website, so you can easily take a look where everything is without "expecting" to be toldArtz wrote:where any MCS maps say 'theres a mountain!'.. I'd expect to be told. I'm not like you, craitman, I don't know the maps inside out
And beaches are quite different from deserts
Re: Terrain Maps
I didnt think I'd still be able to remember the names of lakes and rivers and stuff but I can... I guess it's like riding a bike.

Re: Terrain Maps
Ah, terrain maps. I remember making those. I probably have the one which combined all of the nations who got me to make one for them around somewhere (not that it's up to date for Gralus, but for the rest of Micras) ...
Wait, did I just tell a younger micronationalist how things were done in my day? Sorry, I feel like Scott now - I've been in this hobby long enough that when someone brings up I new idea, I can quote when it was already done. No offence meant, really, Artz - your terrain map is cool too . Nations that appear on my map are probably the ones likely to be interested in further terrain mapping. And I totally agree that the Physical Map leaves a lot open to interpretation, which is as it should be - the MCS shouldn't prescribe exact details of land use to nations, just provide them land.

Re: Terrain Maps
It's good to have some continuous standard though. I mean, imagine if a region that was said to be desert by the nation owning it (and was widely accepted as such) was changed to a jungle by a new nation claiming that land after the previous one had left. That'd be a tad strange.Andreas the Wise wrote:And I totally agree that the Physical Map leaves a lot open to interpretation, which is as it should be - the MCS shouldn't prescribe exact details of land use to nations, just provide them land.
Actually, thinking on, it might even be better if we do have an official terrain map. That way, claiming nations would be able to choose where to claim based on more factors than just geographical position...

Re: Terrain Maps
Well, the idea of changing a commonly accepted terrain (such as that Eura is desert, largely) was one of the reasons I tried to get lots of nations on my terrain map - then if they died, the 'existing' (commonly accepted?) terrain could be remembered. But few have taken it up, so it hasn't really achieved that ....

Re: Terrain Maps
Aye. Good ol' desertification
Re: Terrain Maps
Cold desert = tundra
Four years of environmental studies make me start convulsing whenever we bring up Micran climatology.
the fact of the matter is that, depending where you are located on the map, only certain types of climatic terrain (deserts vs permafrost) are available. Given Livlandia's position, it would not be able to support a desert. But it could support a tundra or permafrost region.
then we get into elves and magic, and all my science goes out the window...

Re: Terrain Maps
Well.. in that case, unless you have someone else who wants to do it.. I'd be happy slowly making a pretty terrtain map of the whole of micras. Of course, it would take me a while.. and I'd probably do it territory by territory.. but, if you could give a basic description of whats already there by MCS standards, added with a little of what the person claiming wants (to fill in any gaps).. then, I'd get onto it, if wanted. I enjoy making them.. no paying necessaryActually, thinking on, it might even be better if we do have an official terrain map. Re: Terrain Maps
T'would probably take a nice long discussion between everyone and a few draft maps before it'd get done properly and officially, so don't worry about making any maps for it just yet
