Re: FNORDs 2010
Well one should certainly be the time frame of the awards. Considering it is FNORDs 2010, it should be for anything finished in 2010. Thus, Artz's singing is eligable, but Jonas' nomination for the SCUE bank and such isn't. Something started in 2009 but was released in 2010 is acceptable, but something done in 2009 and released in 2009 is not. The songs were done within this year, the SCUE bank and everything else is what, 2008? 2009 at the latest?

Re: FNORDs 2010
Yeah, that's right however, yeah..
It is traditionally a year defined as December through to December though, otherwise something released 2 days after the nominations are closed, but perhaps still in december, would never be allowed to be nominated. It's all sort of complicated..

Re: FNORDs 2010
I do believe ... *checks* ... Yes, I have sitting in my awards cabinet a medal bearing the title "THE F.N.O.R.D AWARDS 2010" on one side and "TONY AU AWARD FOR ECONOMICS JOINT WINNER ANDREAS THE WISE FOR THE SMALL COMMONWEALTH ECONOMY" on the other. (Did you put on the wrong year, Spangle?) Anyway, given that Erik and I won an award for the SCUE last year, the bank was definitely around then. I don't think Erik has done huge, fundamental improvements on it since then, though the logs may reveal otherwise.Einhorn wrote:Well one should certainly be the time frame of the awards. However, the SCX was definitely this year.

Re: FNORDs 2010
It definitely raises some issues. December to December is a good enough window. The day the judging starts for that year should definitely be the cut off date (and also beginning of the next year's window) no matter what. So if something is finished AFTER the judging begins, it is eligible for FNORD 2011.
But as far as something 2 days late, you have to look at how just about every other contest in the world is ran. If something is done after nominations have ended, they're disqualified, simple as that. Once nominations are closed, they're closed. As unfortunate as it may be, they will just have to wait until the 2011 FNORDs. Rather than worrying about that, perhaps extending the nomination period a little is the solution.

Yeah, I did put the wrong year, it's been raised before, I recognise that I'm a fool.

Re: FNORDs 2010
In some ways that's better, as long as people remember to nominate it next year. Because then people have been given time to see it running rather than just seeing a working proposal without any chance to see it really working.Einhorn wrote:It definitely raises some issues. Re: FNORDs 2010
Never underestimate the ability of micronationalists to write paragraph after paragraph and then reach the foregone conclusion...
It's been December to December for all time, because the awards are announced on Emperor Norton Day and there's not enough time between the 31st December and then for proper judging.

Re: FNORDs 2010
Yeah, but you could allow any nomination of things done while people are nomiating.. as.. someone said earlier.. prolly einhorn.. and let the cut off date be whenever nominations are closed. Then it'll be the same as usual for voting, yet people have a little bit more flexibility.

Re: FNORDs 2010
# Jeremy Bellamy Award for Literature.
I nominate Ryan Caruso for his story The Retreating Ice.
I also nominate Z-hin'il for his work in various Gralan RPs. A couple prominent examples would be The Pursuit, the whole Claire story arc (starting here, continued in The Pursuit linked above), the final battle with Al'Magroth, and his return backstory.
I further nominate Gerk for his expedition-style backstory journey, starting here, continued here and ending here.
EDIT: Adding to the post below and nominating here as I go.
# Most Promising New Micronation
Normark, for a ton of new, innovative ideas.
# Graphic Arts
Shyriath Bukolos for his vector map, of which I believe the latest version is this. Dig around in the thread a bit more, there may be a version with cities on Kildare earlier in there. [Nominated by Andreas]
# Jeremy Bellamy Award for Literature.
All participants in the Fated War (Gralus + some Shirithians and Nelagans) for the Fated War stuff. Main thread here and a number of connected threads here. [Nominated by Andreas]
# Bill Dusch Award for Cultural Development
Artz nominated me for city descriptions. While I did update a bunch recently, many of those descriptions are from years ago and so I don't feel right accepting the nomination as is, as the judges wouldn't be able to tell easily which stuff was new (and therefore valid). If I may modify a nomination of myself, I would change it to my wiki articles of Novatainian Land, which were all updated with cool formatting and an info box when Gralus changed over to a new wiki, as well as some new material.
I also nominate Greg Russell for his Nelagan Naval Guide to the Untrained (which, apart from his Nelagan Marine Corps Guide to the Uninitiated, is the best micronational military write-up I've ever seen).
# Josh Coales Award for Best New Idea
Bauen for EGaD (a new story bartering system) and his new Recwar system.
# Iain Jacobson Award for Journalism
Gustaaf Vermeylen for his work on the Times Group.
# RIMA Award For Micronational History
Harvey Steffke for his amazing wiki articles on three Nelagan cities, with full and detailed historical notes: Jasonia Palace, Kajar and Nova Kajar.

Re: FNORDs 2010
I'm feeling helpful, so I'm going to put all the nominations in one thread. Also helps me see who else I should nominate.
Graphic Arts
Demon of Fides for various 3-D models of proposed Nelagan vehicles. These are a bit scattered around, but http://nelaga.info/viewtopic.php?f=43&t=999 is a good place to start looking. [Nominated by Harvey, seconded by Andreas]
Jonas for his work on an artist's interpretation of the Jasonian War. Also his propaganda. [Nominated by Harvey, seconded/added by Andreas]
Artz for her work on drawing Gralan creatures, including the one here. [Nominated by Andreas]
Shyriath Bukolos for his vector map, of which I believe the latest version is this. Dig around in the thread a bit more, there may be a version with cities on Kildare earlier in there. [Nominated by Andreas]
Most Promising New Micronation
Merrigovia. Though they're still developing, they're doing some great stuff. [Nominated by Andreas]
Normark, for a ton of new, innovative ideas. [Nominated by Andreas]
Leadership
Harvey Steffke for his important and effective leadership of Nelaga over the past year. He's been President several times, and each Presidency has been a golden age for the nation. [Nominated by Andreas]
Shyriath Bukolos for his work as Kaiser at a time of much tension. [Nominated by Andreas]
Jeremy Bellamy Award for Literature
Ryan Caruso for his story The Retreating Ice. [Nominated by Scott in the thread, seconded/nominated in this thread by Andreas]
Z-hin'il for his work in various Gralan RPs. A couple prominent examples would be The Pursuit, the whole Claire story arc (starting here, continued in The Pursuit linked above), the final battle with Al'Magroth, and his return backstory. [Nominated by Artz, seconded/added by Andreas]
Gerk for his expedition-style backstory journey, starting here, continued here and ending here. [Nominated by Andreas]
All participants in the Fated War, (Gralus + some Shirithians and Nelagans) for the Fated War stuff. Main thread here and a number of connected threads here. [Nominated by Andreas]
Bill Dusch Award for Cultural Development
Gerk Whitman for Gralus city descriptions. A few examples are: The Northern Peninsuala, The Bay of Eminence and the Stardock Isles and the Lake of Hamuji. But please, look around the Tokian region forums, there are a lot more. [Nominated by Artz, seconded/extended by Andreas]
Andreas the Wise for his wiki articles of Novatainian Land, which were all updated with cool formatting and an info box when Gralus changed over to a new wiki, as well as some new material. [Kinda nominated by Artz, kinda refused/modified to be legit by Andreas]
(other nominations ineligible)
Greg Russell for his Nelagan Naval Guide to the Untrained (which, apart from his Nelagan Marine Corps Guide to the Uninitiated, is the best micronational military write-up I've ever seen). [Nominated by Andreas]
Josh Coales Award for Best New Idea
Harvey Steffke & Andreas the Wise for the board merging idea which became the Bastion Union. I can find you threads about the idea if you want. [Nominated by Artz, clarified by Harvey, Ari and Andreas]
Scott Alexander for QUARREL. Technically should be a joint award between him, myself, and Andreas, but since I can't nominate myself and I already have Andreas up for the Stod award, just Scott will do. [Nominated by Harvey]
Bayen for EGaD (a new story bartering system) and his new Recwar system. [Nominated by Andreas]
Tony Au Award for Economics
Einhorn for the development of NoRSE for the economic FNORD. I truly believe this is a good piece of work and it will give the rest of the nations another posibility to work their economy, as an alternative to the Small Commonwealth. [Nominated by Duke J and seconded by Aster].
Erik Mortis for his continued work on the SC Bank (logs here to see what was in 2010). [Nominated by Jonas]
Andreas the Wise for his work at the SCX, a stock exchange game based within the Small Commonwealth Bank. [Nominated by Jonas]
Iain Jacobson Award for Journalism
Christopher/Octavius for his second two-part trilogy: 'A Speakership in Review: The Speakership of Benjamin Sebastocrator Timothy Quentin Kern'

Liam conToketi Award for Most Promising New Micronationalist
Redbaron [Nominated by Artz]
Jackmorres for "Apparel Growing in Vietnam" [Nominated by Harvey]
Shane Odlum Award for Overall Achievement
Spangle for work on the calendar and the post count and all the other stuff he does: that's all on here. [Nominated by Artz]
Andreas the Wise for continuing his micronational excellence in general. He could also be nominated for leadership, economics... in fact, basically every category we have other than the newbie stuff. [Nominated by Harvey]
RIMA Award For Micronational History
Zach Anderson for his work on Merrigovia's history. [Nominated by Artz]
Harvey Steffke for his amazing wiki articles on three Nelagan cities, with full and detailed historical notes: Jasonia Palace, Kajar and Nova Kajar. [Nominated by Andreas]
Maximos for his amazing and untiring work on Micras Wiki. [Nominated by Andreas]
Charles Beard Award for Conflict Resolution
Nathan for his work dealing with Ptia. A potential conflict was avoided masterfully. [Nominated by Harvey]
Maximos - he single-handedly resolved the Laqi Seccession crisis in Shireroth by not hosting a government-in-exile in Ashkenatza and just... backing down. Took an enormous amount of self-restraint. [Nominated by Maximos]
Kaiser Ikol II (Scott) for his attempts to tone down and resolve conflicts brought on by the previous two Kaisers. [Nominated by Andreas]
Kaiser B'caw I (Shyriath) - He was Kaiser in difficult times and held the largest part of the country together during his reign. It could have ended far worse with grudges at both sides if he hadn't stayed so calm. [Nominated by Jonas]
This means that apart from the last category (which Harvey has some ideas for) every category has at least two nominations, so there can be some proper decisions on the judges' part. Guido, have you found any other judges yet? Not that I don't trust you, I just feel it would be best for everyone if there were at least three judges.

Honoured Servant of the Jingdaoese Heavenly Light and the Kaiseress of Shireroth
