Oh by the way, images are disabled on the forum for copyright reasons, laws being especially strict in Germany where the forum happens to be hosted. Images are displayed as links, but most people use a GreaseMonkey script for Firefox to get around this.

I happen to be German, I'm active on loads of German sites and I can tell you that no German forum I've been to before blocks images. It isn't actually illegal to display copyrighted images, as long as you link directly to the site, because that way you are making a source known...

Re: NSEurope
Meh, considering I love making flags and maps and spamming pictures I happen to find on Wikipedia I'm totally on your side but our admin happens to be a bit neurotic about this stuff and since he's hosting it this happens to be a pretty sensible solution to me, though it can be a bit off-putting to new members and we have had lively discussions about the matter. But I guess it's sort of like being at a party somewhere, the guy who's place you're crashing at gets to decide whether or not you can bumps of coke in the middle of the living room. Sort of a give and take!Sebastian von Linden wrote:I happen to be German, I'm active on loads of German sites and I can tell you that no German forum I've been to before blocks images. Go to x10hosting.com, I always used them, they're super-reliable, offer enough space, and their servers are in the US and Mexico.

Re: NSEurope
As a member of NSEurope who is new enough to have remembered joining- I can say here and now it's a bit of a travail, but worth it. I think you a few of you guys are overreacting a bit- and let me just clarify our forum from the perspective of a member of it, and one who isn't necessarily fully 'inside' the comfort zone of being a long time established member.
The map is blocked off from instant view [as are all images] to deter trolls and spambots, but also to give people an incentive to do something other than come in and on their first post claim the best map spot they can and then poof. It's very easy to go post an introduction post, and then post a thread introducing your national concept [or just spamming in our spam section].
The out of character sections involving your profile don't really matter, as as an RPing community we're willing to deal with nearly any concept that can be explained, and often they enrich the experience. Case in point? My nation is a bunch of warlike, mercenary celts and gaels, who happen to be semi-pagan and practice a highly skewed form of christianity- no one says a peep about it, or about my nation being the size it is. Likewise, no one says 'no you can't play germany #8' or 'France #6' despite the fact people often feel the need to. NSEurope is a community that genuinely lets you RP whatever ethnic nation you want, if you can explain it, and genuinely engages you in a way to help you build your nation into something that's more than your singular creation, even if it's not all through RP.
While NSEurope has trolls, and boy does it have plenty- so many we reference it on our map; it's a community you shouldn't let the first touch not being 'omg yey we're glad you're here!' disturb you from. It's community is mostly genuinely friendly, and wants to see you there and RPing.

Re: NSEurope
Again, you've pretty much described the way the people here act. A lot of in-jokes, people popping-in only once a blue moon, so many different cultures, and members who want newbies but pretend they don't

Re: NSEurope
I used to use them, and when they weren't shutting me down for not posting 100,000 words on their forum every second of every day, they were constantly going down.Sebastian von Linden wrote:Go to x10hosting.com, I always used them, they're super-reliable, offer enough space, and their servers are in the US and Mexico.
Now, I use 0000free.com and have had no problems with them whatsoever.

Re: NSEurope
You're confusing them with heliohost. x10 doesnt require forum posting.
Re: NSEurope
Heliohost doesn't require posting on their support forum, but they do require you have an account there (and if you're going to sign up with them, Goddesses help you if you avoid the support board).
x10 doesn't require posting, I was merely exaggerating the fact that they require you to sign into their forum once per fortnight to keep your account.

Nope, they don't. Not since I've been there anyway.
