Re: A Question
Edit: in retrospect, I don't think I want to continue this. And I REALLY don't want to be the Bastion poster boy any more. Let's just agree to disagree and then agree to do nothing whatsoever.
Re: A Question
How in the world did you come to THAT conclusion?
Everything I've been talking about is old news, an idea I had 6 months ago that discussion thereof diverged into an idealistic debate. I have no clue whatsoever of whatever Babkha and Antica are plotting in the present time, but whatever it is, isn't unlikely to get solved in this topic when none of them are talking about it.

Eh, not much else to talk about either way.

= maintain the status quo.agree to do nothing whatsoever.
= Keep the MCS where it is.
Harvey, however far removed these Antican and Babkhan plans are from your original idea, by your own admission the very thought of radically changing the MCS in such a manner was your own. You must therefore be able to have some understanding as to what they're doing, and to what end- we may disagree about how to administer the MCS but I think we probably both feel that it's far better that these problems are openly discussed rather than in a private forum.
I really hope they can just grow up and realise the way to go about this is by discussion, not conspiracy - fun though the latter may seem.

Re: A Question
If you're all really interested about what some Anticans and Babkhans are doing, why don't you go and ask them? It just seems more productive than carefully dissecting an idea Harvey had six months ago that he said at the start he no longer holds.
Also, Ailin, just so you know - when I helped create the Bastion Union I had no intention of subsuming the MCS or the like, we were just three nations sharing a forum; so of course we started our own forum instead of joining the Hub. Stuff happened after that, and then more stuff that reversed the trends of the first stuff. And there was also six months of posts. The point of my story is that it would be completely impractical to move Bastion to the Hub now even if we wanted to, because there are 17000 posts, including a number of important country development stuff, that would go to be stuck in an archive. I've done the whole 'moving to a new forum and moving stuff over from the old forum which has become an archive' more times than I care to remember. I would hate to do it again just for Gralus, let alone for six nations and Archipelago. Just so you think about that practical stuff before saying, even jokingly in the middle of a rant, that we should consider moving Bastion Union elsewhere. Sakat no, I do not want to go through that again.

Re: A Question
Andreas, to be fair, just because a post is long, doesn’t make it a rant.
I never said you formed the Bastion Union with the intent of conquering the micronational world.
But, in case the issue of enveloping the MCS or the Hub ever resurfaces, my opinions are now on record.
And as for moving the Union, practically, I did reference creating a section of the Union to be linked to the Hub because of the logistics involved in moving the entire thing. Perhaps that wasn’t clear, but I also didn’t go into it seeing as that wasn’t the crux of my statement.

Also, this is quite possibly the first micronational discussion that I've seen in at least three months that hasn't either descended into insulting matches or resulted in micronationalism having yet another existential crisis.

Re: A Question
@Ailin: Don't worry, I wasn't trying to start an argument or accuse you of anything. I just noticed a paragraph in the middle of your post which on my skim seemed to say 'If you really wanted to be neutral you'd join the Hub', and I wanted to add my absolute and complete opposition to moving forums ever again. It wasn't entirely necessary, but in case someone skims this thread in the future, sees that and says 'Why doesn't Bastion join the Hub?' without having thought through what moving all those posts entails, now they'll know
And Phillip - I like to think that's because we've grown past that stage. I know we haven't, but it's nice to see we don't always revert to it

Re: A Question
That's how we roll. It probably has a lot to do with the fact that none of us involved are 13 years old.
I've been making a point in my life to quit arguing and attempt, instead, to persuade. I'm in transition. It's a learned skill. Why, disappointed?

There's a reason I tend to stay off the #micronations chat and Hub forums in general. It seems everyone has bought into the cultural paradigm that disagreement=personal offense, and nobody can construct a logical or persuasive argument. I actually was surprised to see this particular discussion remain so civilized.

Re: A Question
Pleasure to surprise. We're all on the same side here, even if we have disagreements. Sometimes we forget that, or for the younger crowd, never realized that in the first place.

Re: A Question
Maybe. I can guess, but they would be just guesses. I will admit that I have felt frustration in the sluggishness and how this organization operates at times, but that's hardly a new idea unique to me - every serious MCS opposition in the past that created new maps were born out of the same thoughts. I was planning to go a much more subtle route of keeping the MCS intact intead of whipping up new maps with new council members because I thought that had a better chance of long-term success. Whatever bad things I can say about the MCS. I can't and never will complain about Crait's long-term commitment to updating. That is one thing that I, and anyone sane, should go well out of their way to never damage. If I had to guess, though, they'd prolly be planning something considerably more... hostile? I know the idea was floated of simply taking the MCS's map, redrawing all the countries as they see fit, allowing anyone to leave that didn't want to be on the new project, and then just using that map as official and ignoring the MCS. That is my best guess at what they'd be doing.Maximos wrote:Harvey, however far removed these Antican and Babkhan plans are from your original idea, by your own admission the very thought of radically changing the MCS in such a manner was your own. If anything.
I seriously doubt they have any real plans. Those guys can whip up some amazing storms, but they always fizzle out after a short time.
It can be the same thing sometimes. I can see I will not be able to persuade you to see certain viewpoints; you should see the same about me. So, if the conversation had went on too much longer, it wouldn't have gone anywhere productive and would be basically just arguing.King Ailin of Uantir wrote:I've been making a point in my life to quit arguing and attempt, instead, to persuade.
Re: A Question
Or, if we were both really persuasive, we'd be distracted into talking about something completely different.
I'm glad you're not planning to usurp the MCS anymore though. I'm honestly surprised there are not more 'parallel dimensions' of Micras running around with people who got really fed up with the place throughout the years. Sure it's copyrighted, but I'd call Crait's bluff. I doubt he, or anyone around here has the time or money to take that one to court.
Maybe there are and I just don't know about them? Being so comfortable with Micras / the Hub it's been a very long time since I've ventured out into the Google-verse to see what other Micronation type forum/maps communites are about that are not connected to here in some way.
