Any interest or ideas on a new MN project?
Right so, after Oscland's return I think I may have been inspired to restart an old project or start a new micronational project, but I'm going to ask for some feedback here. I have a few ideas, and I'd just like to know what you think about it. Obviously the post-Lovely hype era is long gone now, so the only possible way to sustain it is to probably try to generate interest in the rest of the community. There has been talks about CIS and restarting that and I would like to have that as a side project, but I'd also like to start my own micronational project again.
So here are my ideas.
[*] Taesong - My idea for restarting Taesong is purely down to 2 reasons - first of all the land area has been relatively unclaimed since Riponia were removed from the map. Another reason is with the exception of Nova English Korea, there isn't really a far eastern influenced nation still existing on Micras (there was a time where Kampong, Xinguo and Taesong all existed). I'd either start up Taesong as a single nation, although I have had an idea about creating a division for recwar simulation - a North and South Taesong with 2 different governments to create a conflict that might be workable on. However, due to the amount of people needed for the latter option, I don't think it could work.
[*] Amoria - Amoria has been through 3 incarnations already, but I think it's my best option although things would have to change. The previous Amorian land is now partially claimed by Yabloko and Mondero, so a new capital city would have to be named. In addition to that, new cultural states would have to be added from other MNs and some would also have to be renamed with an emphasis on change. This gives many MNists a reason to take interest and develop their own influence over the nation, as well as helping out in setting up a new democratic government.
[*] Something else - Something New - open to suggestions.
Looking forward to seeing what you guys will say about this.

It'd be real nice to see Taesong back... it was a nation when I first came here, so I'd like to see them back... besides, I believe your point of no far-east influence is true...

Most of the new nations appearing on Micras at the moment seem to be MicroWiki nations curious to see what we're all about. It would be nice to see a new project by someone whose roots lie in the Micras Sector such as yourself, though with the greatest of respect you did start a large number of Asian themed nations in rapid succession (Taesong, T'aishen, Chi Nam) and it was at least for me rather difficult to keep up with the developments.
Part of the problems with founding new micronations seem to be that many people are taken in by the optimistic idea that new citizens will be willing to go through the hours of tedium involved in writing constitutions and designing forum graphics. In my opinion the preliminary work like that is best left up to a couple of founders, in private, so that when the nation is 'released' into the community, new citizens can enjoy their new citizenship at their own pace. I would also suggest finding at least one more person to help you start up the nation to ensure a degree of longevity.

Personally, I'd love to see Taesong back, and the north-south idea seems very interesting and workable. Amoria's been way too drawn-out and its three previous incarnations didn't exactly last long, so Taesong I'd say

I can help out with writing a constitution, but I'm not sure I have the time to participate as a citizen.

I've been toying around with the idea of a micronation based on South Africa. A confederation of two foreign-dominated republics, two native states, and a grey area that's a mix of everybody but dominated by English. I think such a micronation would provide an excellent internal dynamic.

That's how I've envisioned the colonies of Normark, although perhaps a little less apartheid lol.Ryan wrote:I've been toying around with the idea of a micronation based on South Africa. Colonies can always be different since they're usually separated geographically, but something akin to South Africa, where everything is geographically clustered and adjacent, I think it would create a very different dynamic than most MNs experience. Especially if you can get people to lead each partition aggressively.

Ryan by any chance do you remember the Chine conflict back before the Lovely hype? with the Federal Republic and CSR?
Re: Any interest or ideas on a new MN project?
Indeed I do, and also the unfortunately short-lived Dipingxian which was also based on the RoC/PRC conflict. And then Troy's Xinguo which never got far off the ground.

Hate to keep advertising this all the time, but what the heck, really do think this is a good idea for you.
Instead of starting yet another micronation, make an Archipelago statelet. The focus is on culture and development instead of competing for citizens and trying to maintain activity. Big community, weekly contests, occasional development workshops, nicer map. And it doesn't have any Asian-themed statelets yet (well, except Aryasht, and that's more Indian).
Talk to me or PM me if you want to learn more.
PS: Same advice/suggestion to Oscland and Dazhou and all the other new countries.

I'm not really sure what you mean. I just feel like every couple of weeks, someone is starting a new micronation, begging everyone to become citizens, and then having it collapse after a few months because too few people are active. i feel like there should be a better way, and that Archipelago is a start.Am I missing something?

Really? This (and Dazhou) is the first sign of anyone asking around for interest in a brand new nation since Castrum Nazarene. Oscland's returned and all the other nations claiming lately (yes, there's been quite a lot of 'em) are quite established MicroWiki nations. There's nowhere near as enough new nation ideas as there used to be in summers pastScott Alexander wrote:I just feel like every couple of weeks, someone is starting a new micronation, begging everyone to become citizens, and then having it collapse after a few months because too few people are active.
S'either that or people want to start proper nations and not just be clumped together with other sub-subforums on the Bastion board?
