A clickable map

A clickable map
There have been a few versions of a clickable map but none have stuck around. I noticed Alfreds new project and got me thinking that a clickable map would be a suitable method of displaying Micran heritage.
I knocked up a botched proof of concept to give you an idea of what I mean: http://www.bashkeys.com/work/sandbox/Micras/map.html
The style wouldn't fit anything to do with heritage, but I wanted to give the map a unique look.
I don't know, it's just a sliver of an idea and if anyone would be interested I am sure we could give the idea a bit more of a purpose.

Re: A clickable map
That's neat. Are you saying we'd have a 'Heritage Map' and so instead of city names and such, it would have historical sites? The clickies would link to their Wiki or Website pages with more info. Something like that?

Re: A clickable map
Yeah, exactly that. Sorry my post is quite vague.

Re: A clickable map
Wasn't the Quetzal Map clickable back in't day? Had loads of links to wiki articles and was a pretty good idea
Re: A clickable map
I like the idea, why have they never stuck around? Is it the labor tax involved in maintaining them?

Re: A clickable map
The Quetzal Map probably would take a while to update, but a blank map, with simple text based icons is simple enough. That's why my first though was Alfred's project. It's just cop and pasting some text and changing the name and link, and of course the co-ordinates. But that's all simple enough.
Here is a more simplified map that uses the default Micras blank map: http://www.bashkeys.com/work/sandbox/Micras/map2.html

Re: A clickable map
So, that sounds great. Wednesday I'll likely finish this stage of the Keltian Express, then I'll backbuner the insignia project and help out with this, if just by producing some content for it.

Brilliant! I also found Billl3000's old distant calculator: http://bill3000.net/phptest/Distance/click.php
I wonder if a smarter man than me could modify this so that someone with no coding knowledge could easily as a link to the map?

Re: A clickable map
First it needs to be re-programmed to take into acount the new distance per pixels.

Sorry, typo.I wonder if a smarter man than me could modify this so that someone with no coding knowledge could easily add a link to the map?
What I meant was that I wonder if it would be possible to set up a system that takes the click input and adds a link to the point on the map where you clicked. Better?

Oh, I see now. It's quite late here and finding similar spelt words in English isn't among my strengths
Well, I could try to write something like that. It shouldn't be too hard, but can take a while.
