I want to participate in this "war"... Where do I sign up? Anyone wants to hire my services?
Babkha? Me and Ardashir on Babkha's side? Now when did that last happen. Oh right. The Jaris War.. no wait, the Circum-Raynor War...
That can be arranged.KingJeremy wrote:OOC:

Go with the Maraguan side Extreme - the Nelagans have benefited enough from the herd-mentality as it is.Nicholas the Mad wrote:Or the side of Justice!

They have Shireroth though... how about you split, one fights for Maraguo, one for Novatainia? Or just go on the side that has less people.

Side of justice? Poor, little Maraguo will get invaded by the Novatainian forces. They use the rebels as reason to conquer the islands and get WORLD DOMINANCE!!!!
Err. Forget what I said...

Has Shireroth shown any signs of being 'organised' though? Shireroth may have the bigger population but it terms of actual 'boots on the ground' things are pretty heavily stacked one way.Nicholas the Mad wrote:They have Shireroth though... how about you split, one fights for Maraguo, one for Novatainia? I'm sure 'Progidy' will be amused at that post
I see, though... maybe all the random mercenaries should join your side then?

Re: Day of the Eagle (Part 1)
Summary: Mostly backstory. Yyiji, leader of Hyperborea, reflects on his motivations for being in the war, and decides on the forces he's going to commit.Yyiji Tonkothion, the ninety-eight year old Prince-Elder of Hyperborea, was still alive only because he was too busy to die. Take this morning, for example.
The traditional Christmas condemnations had come in from Alexandria and Amokolia. He'd been getting these since...well...since he was young. They still hadn't figured out that he had no personal control over the North Pole or MicraSanta. So every year, December 25th, they would send their condemnations and petitions. Why doesn't MicraSanta ever visit Leng or Cibola? Children there need presents too! We demand MicraSanta add the children of Cibola and Leng to his list! It never ended. Yyiji trusted his assistants would pen an appropriate reply, and turned to more important matters.
He was still looking for a successor. Not that it was entirely his choice, but he could at least single out an heir apparent for the Nine and the kuithvelins to look over. He trusted Tephi absolutely, but his foreign blood, his strange mannerisms, and his checkered history made him an impossible choice, and he still wasn't sure whether his blind friend had any interest in politics or not. There were the normal choices; leaders among the Paladins, the Councillors from Kalen and Midhoth, the two High Priests. None of them quite appealed to him. Ah well. He went silent for a second, listening to the rhythms of his body. No, he wouldn't die today. Not tomorrow, either. There was still time, then.
For the millionth time that week, he wondered whether it would be best to just withdraw Raikothlin forces and abandon Nelaga. His people (sympathetic to the Nelagan cause), the Priests of Beauty, and six of the Nine said yes. The Oracle of Yaanek said no. The kuithvelin, to his surprise, also supported the war.
He tried to trace the kuithve line of reasoning. Most of them, he knew, were naturally suspicious of any independence movement or popular uprising. Why? Because they started long, painful civil wars, and with very few exceptions the post-coup government wasn't a significant improvement over the pre-coup government. That meant lots of suffering for little gain. Further, the proper trend was the unification of smaller nations into larger ones, not the fracturing of large empires into petty kingdom; only through unification could world peace and brotherhood be ensured. Therefore it was imperative that revolutions, coups, and rebellions be discouraged unless completely justified by the tyranny and oppression of the mother country. Novatainia and Maraguo could be at worst accused of apathy. And therefore, rebellions such as the apparent Nelagan incident must be crushed as an example to other potential rebels.
The other thing the kuithvelin had brought up was the Omen, the deadliest superweapon on Micras. It had lain dormant in a museum for a millennium before the rebels' mysterious leader had hijacked it. Now the planet's only city-destroying laser was back in business. That crime alone marked the rebels out for extinction.
The Nine were there to balance the soulless deliberation of the kuithvelin with good old human wisdom. But Yyiji was there to balance out the Nine, and he, of course, could see things both ways. He wouldn't be remotely qualified to be Prince-Elder of Raikoth if he couldn't.
He sighed, and signed the order to dispatch Lightning, Cloud, Olive, and Grape task forces to Nelaga. He would let Tephi decide what to do with them. Then he had a minor flash of intuition, reinterpreted one of the Oracle's pronouncements, and added Apple to the list. It was Tephi's problem now.
Yyiji considered dying, but finally decided it would be worth his while to see how the war played out. That meant he would have to attend this afternoon's council meeting. He sighed and started writing speeches.
OOC @ Corey: I'm fighting on Shireroth's side, but we're still badly outmatched. I agree all mercenaries/random newcomers should join the anti-Nelaga side if at all possible.

I think some of Atterock was ninja'd from me by Andreas, and trust me, you don't want your troops to meet their fate if he really did take them...Erik Mortis Brookshire wrote:And thanks to me, some of Shireroth is fighting against some of Shireroth.

All Ashkenatzi Forces recalled to Ashkenatzi Territorial Waters for immediate regrouping for another mission totally unconnected with this war. Seriously.

Re: Day of the Eagle (Part 1)
SUMMARY: Backstory. Reinforcements are arriving in Bryden in a day or two; the current force in Nova Kajar will rendezvous there with them.Korstokk had long since arrived in Nova Kajar with the small expeditionary force. A small forward base dominated a few hills outside the town, bearing the royal colors of Toketi - an obnoxious lime green and neon orange - and the standard of the Chelkran Elite Guard - a more muted dark gray and blood red shield with two crossed swords.
The red phone blinked and beeped. Korstokk looked up from the map where he plotted known troop locations and furrowed his brow. Who would call him at one in the morning?
The commander picked up the emergency phone. "Force Commander Korstokk Melebroch of the Tokian Expeditionary Forces here. Who am I speaking to?"
"Korstokk, it's Kale." The sound of his compatriot's voice calmed Korstokk a bit.
"Glad to hear from you, Kale." The expeditionary leader sounded tired. "What's the good news?"
Kale chuckled. "The good news is that we have reached a peaceable agreement with Passas over the land claim. We're bringing backup in the next few days. I still have to stay here, but Lucas will be bringing them to you."
Korstokk rubbed his eyes with one hand. "That is good news. Any bad news to ruin it?"
"Other than me not being able to join you, not that I know of. They should arrive in one or two days; they're bringing boats."
"I'll keep an eye out. If they're bringing boats, we'll rendezvous in Bryden," Korstokk informed his colleague. "Andreas has his navy there, and that appears to be where he's launching from."
"Understood, I'll relay the information," Kale confirmed. "Take care of yourself, Korstokk. You're getting old."
"You're older than me," Korstokk grunted, too exhausted to laugh. He needed sleep, but it never came easily these days. "Talk atcha later, Kale." They hung up.
Korstokk put his head down on his desk.
Sometimes, sleep did come easily. He passed out on the map in minutes.
