Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
Scott, separate topic (but I don't have mod powers, can't split it, and it seems pointless starting a new one to apply to you) - I was assuming Nick's helicopters, who are there to stop you escaping and keep an eye on any escape attempts, would have noticed the trenches. I'm not sure how close they are to the river at the intended to connect ends.

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
Andreas: fair enough. I was assuming they'd started close to the river and so most of the digging machinery would now be at the end further from the river, but I never mentioned that. In any case, Ardashir has just told me that heat-seeking missiles can't do what you wanted them to, so I'm going to say that they generally missed the construction machinery, but you succeeded in water-logging the trench. If you can find an authority who says heat-seeking missiles could hit construction machinery from that range, I'd be happy to take back that decision.

More specifically the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System and M109a6 Paladin Artillery fire munitions which tend to be guided by inertial navigation with GPS, if at all. These are area bombardment not precision weapons systems we are talking about (granted the MLRS can focus that area down to a quite remarkably small area but singling out the heat signature of a bulldozer... not terribly probable). The M712 Copperhead which is a precision artillery munition lacks the range for this scenario and again the target must be illuminated with a laser for this to function.

Ok, so to confirm - heat seeking missiles could potentially do it, but the units I have are not equipped with those sort of missiles?

Essentially, having checked with Hesam we can't think of anything fired from those that would fit the bill.

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
I had read the post about the strike earlier, not sure if its still as is, or modified, but i got the idea that the strike was at the construction equipment irregardless of where they were. Is that correct? So, if the construction vehicles were in the south of the trench, then that's where the missiles were struck and if they were at the north, then that's where the missiles were fired?
Now, as far as i could follow, the data for targeting was provided by Nick's helicopters, which according to you were flying in the North. How does then the person who fired those missiles know where the construction equipment is, if the helicopters didn't see them in the North ? I am a bit confused on that aspect.
This is irregardless of whether heat seeking missiles can be fired or not, or whether these missiles can even find the construction equipment based on heat.

Scott and I sorted results between ourselves, but for your own interest, there were two trenches, both being dug simultaneously. So assumedly equipment in both. The helicopters go along the whole river, both north and south.

How is it that my planes were sent to Skoitomashu and never detected a sub that attacked the carrier when it arrived at the city?

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
I take it that was a secret move?
(by the way Din, your question should probably be in a separate thread)

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
well, I haven't seen any the official war thread yet, but:
1. Did your planes move to Skoitomashu in a secret action or after i posted the attack? Cause if its a secret action, then its good. But if its after, then um... i dont know, i think i would object to that cause my attack on your carrier came first. so, you couldn't possibly send the aircrafts into the air. maybe one. or two.
2. Planes can't detect submarines unless you are actually looking for a submarine. And that too, you gotta be dropping sonar buoys and stuff.
3. My submarine was following you for quite a while before I actually used it to fire at you.
4. What Andreas said is right. It was a secret action.

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
I actually meant *his* planes going was a secret move because I hadn't noticed him sending them off ...

Neither have I, which is why I said point one.
Also, to note... Skoitomashu airport... umm... damaged or destroyed as i put it last.

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
I received no notification of a secret move, which is tending to be standard policy from Novatainian forces at the moment. I'm not particularly keen on it because its questioning my impartiality when I put by judge's hat (or is it wig? ) on. Yet its not illegal. However, I did state before the war started that its my preference for all participants to post they're doing a secret move. It stops situations like this.
And Din, extreme is right in that planes cannot detect submarines without actively searching for them. And even then, those planes are specialised ASW planes not your standard fighter or bomber.

Re: Complaints/Judicial Appeals
Monty - in Din's first move he said "move pm'd to Judge". I'd guess it that one. And he's actually Tokian (only me, Nick and Fides are primarily Novatainian).
