Re: Official War Thread
again, schoolwork bogs me down, so no backstory...
summary: 3 bombers are destroyed, 2 are damaged from the ambush, as they are caught by surprise.
reasoning: it's only 5 planes worth 500 each vs 8 bombers worth 1000 each.
though are you dog fighting them until 100% are destroyed, or is this more of a hit (once) and run? I will adjust casualties accordingly if need be.

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: the Vliegende Hert division seems to have lost 4 fighters, 3 bombers and 4 helicopters, due to the attacks from the air. Furthermore, the attacks against the fleet were so effective, that the fleet has to go to Enhasa for repairs, guided by the remaining fighters and helicopters. The Omen, however, seems to be silent. The attacks by the Batavian forces seem to have worked out.Somewhere west of Ardy's Reach, still
Aboard the Z.M. Mauritus
*Boink* "Can't I sleep for just one second?" A sailor on board of the Z.M. Mauritus cursed. When he looked out his window, he saw great bolts of fire in the air. "What the hell is happening?" He yelled. No one answered, since everybody was running to their posts. The commander of the ship, captain Droogstoppel, gave commands. "You, the missile launcher on starboard! You, what are you waiting for? Get immediately to the anti-air guns on the rear side of the ship! Aaarrgghhh! What the hell are you lot waiting for? For us to sink to Davy Jones locker? I guess not... Get to the guns! Shoot at everything you can!"
A second ago, there was the sound of an enormous blast. "What in the name of Mors is happening? Give me full reports! I want them, now!" A sailor immediately run towards captain Droogstoppel. "We've been hit by a bomber, sir!" He reported. "What? Hit by one of our own?" Captain Droogstoppel furiously answered. "No, sir! They are using bombers also..." A short silence fell. "Well, than just shoot em! I want them out of the air within a few seconds! Report the damage!" Another sailor came along. "Sir, there is a humongous hole on the rear end of the ship. We are not sinking, but it seems we cannot use the rear deck anymore," he reported. "Well, keep shooting! I will inform the commander immediately and ask if we can get the hell out of here," captain Droogstoppel replied.
Captain Droogstoppel established a phone call with Maximilian:
"Sir?"
"Yes, Droogstoppel, tell me."
"We've been hit at the rear end of our ship. It appears there is an enormous hole in the rear deck. We cannot maintain our positions for long."
"Well, that's quite obvious. I saw a lot of smoke coming from your ship. It doesn't look nice at all for our side. As I expected, we are getting bombed by an enemy airforce. Most unfortunate, that is not all we have to deal with. There are enemy submarines, firing torpedoes at the Z.M. Alfons II and the Z.M. de Bourbon. Our airforce is trying to deal with the enemy airforce, but were outnumbered by far. In short: we will have to get out of here. The Omen seems to be more or less out of action, since we did not see any activity up there since an hour or so. This means there's a serious chance we can get out of here without being shot down by the Omen. Await further orders."
"Yes, Sir!"
In the command chamber of the Z.M. Alfons II
"Captain, were through our ICBMs. Can I report the Z.M. Vinandy so?" A communications soldier asked.
"Yes, you can. Ask them fo.." *Bang* "What the hell was that?" Captain Cuijcken yelled.
"Sir, the instruments say, that there has been an enormous blast, like one of a torpedo, just next to us," another soldier reported.
"Well, that's bad. Start firing back!" Captain Cuijcken ordered.
Cuijcken called the captain of the Z.M. de Bourbon straight away.
"Captain Van Voren, are you there?"
"Yes, I am."
"Good, I have just one simple message for you: we are under attack by other subs. Can you help me shooting back?"
"Yes, we will. We are through our stock of ICBMs, so we can put all our energy in shooting those subs. Will you inform the commander?"
"Yes, I will call him immediately."
Aboard the Z.M. Vinandy, Max's ship
Max ran to the communication office. He had some orders, which needed to be followed immediately.
"Everybody, listen up! First of all, I want a cup of coffee. Second of all, I want to know the exact damages and losses."
"Sir! I just had news from the Z.M. Mauritus!" Someone said.
"Just skip that one, I just spoke to captain Droogstoppel."
"Okay, Sir! The Z.M. Vaderdesvaderlands reports that she has been hit a few times. They are still trying to get the whole picture, but they think their engine is broken," the same soldier said.
"Can it be fixed?"
"No, they think it cannot be, I'm sorry, sir."
"Okay, that's pretty bad news. Anything on the subs?" Max asked.
"Yes, sir! The subs are doing fine and are currently shooting at a few enemy subs. They have some damage, still. A compartment of the Z.M. Alfons II is leak. It is successfully evacuated, but the Z.M. Alfons II must get out of here."
"Well, that's not the best of news at all..."
"Sir!" A servant ran into the room. "I have news! The Z.M. Vaderdesvaderlands just fixed their engine. They aren't fast at all, but they can move again!"
"That's better. What about the planes?" Max asked.
"Well, Sir, about the planes: I have bad news. 4 fighters got shot down and 3 bombers have disappeared of the radar. 4 Helicopters got shot down too."
Max cursed.
"Okay, this is what we are going to do. We will shoot our way out. The Z.M. Vinandy will sail away, with the Z.M Vadersdesvaderlands and Z.M. Mauritus just behind her. On the left and the right of the Z.M. Vinandy the subs will sail beneath the surface and will defend us from under the surface. The remaining planes and helicopters will guide us all the way, except the bombers. They must retreat to Enhasa. That is where we will be going also. We can get our wounded to the shore and get our ships fixed. I believe the Z.M. Van Haltna and the Z.M. Albert are already there for repairs. I hope the Lovelian attacks will finish the Omen. Otherwise, Jonas can handle it. Get the Z.M. Vermeylen, the Z.M. Van Haag and the Z.M. Ackers back to Enhasa."

Well, you've got incoming sorry foghorn.
And Longbow, just because a bomber is worth a 1000 points doesn't make it any better against a fighter. bombers are 1000 because of their payload not because of their defence. A b-52 is quite crap at getting out of the way of missiles.

OOC: Monty, I have no forces at Ura'Bos or Sun City, which is the ancient Micron structure next to it. When Ardy attacked, I played the maybe 50 civilian researchers, who fled into the Sun City. But Foghorn's there.

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: 30 Venoms are dispatched, each containing 2 snipers and 4 special forces. 10 will go to Port of Sails, 10 will go to Damev and 10 will go to Yaskhona. They are to remain stealthy as possible. And are directed to not engage any enemies. This is just a recon run.The air was dead silent, except for the constant pitter patter of the rain. The occasional lightening bolt lit up the sky, thunder rolled through the land.
The air was dead silent, except for the sound of boots grinding across the gravel. The occasional shout of orders echoed into the night.
The air was dead silent, the eyes of men, men with a purpose, men with a desire, a desire to destroy.
The air was dead silent, the lights of hundreds of vehicles lit up the night. The sound of boots on gravel was drowned out by the sound of boots on metal stairs, climbing into the death machines.
The air was dead silent, and then...
A roar was heard as a pack of 20 Venoms revved their engines. At this signal, all over the capitol, lights went out. The sounds of machinery working and weapons being readied littered the night.
Suddenly, the first 20 venoms shot off into the darkness, engaging their nitro sources. They were totally out of sight in seconds.
Inside the venom's, the men sat silent. They rocked back and forth with the bumps as the venom sped forward. Everyone was ready.
"Ok boys, we're going dark..."
The lights in the 30 venoms faded, as did the external lighting.
The air was dead silent, except for the pitter patter of the rain.

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: My troops have taken the small Unnamed Batavian village [24 Hour Rule]...Set up defences especially in the red zone shown on the ‘Recon Photo’. AA and Artillery has been set up in this area as well as the gutting out of Cellars in order to be used as basic Bomb Shelters. Sniper teams have been posted on the steep hills in order to monitor any nosey locals from elsewhere and enemy troops. Most of the Iuldor Weard is located in the FOB as well as 1st and 5th Battalions of the 1st Brigade of the Aquila Legion. Oh and the Fire Force compliment of HMNS Cafi is still in the village whilst the rest of the Battalions are staying in their transports whilst further accommodation is sought out. Almost forgot to say that communications in the area were taken out whilst my forces incurred a single death and two injuries caused by some civilian resistance. Also the population of the village is being held inside the village hall which is somewhat half located in the FOB.Batavian Village
120km North East from Enhasa
Two bodies hung limp from wooden posts in the village square, below them was a burning Batavian flag. Blood slowly flowed down the cobblestone roads towards the makeshift barricades that had surrounded the outside of the village hall. The operation had been carried out somewhat effortless, the Iuldor Weard Platoon had done exactly as told and had knocked communications out in the area. Meanwhile the strike by the Fire Force had worked leading to the capture of the village. Only a minor casualty had occurred caused from the two individuals who had been executed under orders for using Molotov Cocktails against troops advancing on the village hall. The barricade that they had quickly constructed as they heard the approaching helicopters lay in ruins after several soldiers took to using 40mm grenades to blast the miscellaneous items that formed the barricade.
The village hall was sparsely decorated only a couple of paintings of the village and a Mural of the region’s Senechal. Makeshift beds now littered the placed as the 150 locals tried to make do with what few belongings they had been allowed to take with them from their homes. The area was poor as observed by Besecan most of the house lay empty after villagers left in order to find work in Enhasa. The Iuldor Weard had already begun in the erection of basic defences for the village. It had the advantage of being located upon the side of a steep hill that had the sea to the East, steep hills around the Southern and Western perimeters and the large pass was to the North. It was the perfect staging post for the invasion and the men on the ground knew that although their arrival had been unnoticed it wouldn’t be long until Batavians would catch sight of the Expeditionary fleet that sat in the water ready and prepared for battle.
The streets that lead into the Village square had all been blocked up most by sandbag barriers that caused the central part of the village to effectively become a fort. Houses inside the newly christened Fort Besecan had their cellars gutted and refitted with bedding and supplies. Scout groups had already been positioned on the hills to watch out for any advances by the enemy whilst those not taking an active role in the construction effort silently guarded the village. The artillery Battalion from the Iuldor Weard had begun to deploy their AA equipment as well as the rest of their conventional Artillery. Inside the building that once housed one of the richer families a land based HQ had been set up. A large Nova English banner draped from one of the windows whilst various propaganda posters littered a section of the wall that had once been a large note board.
Besecan’s glass clashed with the King’s as they celebrated the small victory, they were in the study room which lay adorned with various computer equipment that was being used in monitoring the area.
‘Well sire, I feel we have done well today almost no resistance and a stable Forward Operating Base!’ Said Besecan
‘Aye I know and it seems you have chosen a good site considering the tactical advantage we hold over any one looking to ‘liberate’ the settlement...’ Replied Josephus as he drank some of his traditional ‘Torrington Brew Ale’.
Oh and leaked Recon Photo of the Village taken during the aftermath of the takeover:
OOC: Jonas if you need further details on what the defences consist of, feel free to PM me.

Re: Official War Thread
“Sweet Mother Mary of Mercy be with us now†the Bishop Monahan of Port Howard muttered, crossing himself, as he scanned the front page of the “Torrington Times†which featured an all-too-graphic photo of two Batavians practically crucified on wooden stakes on Redoubt Island. The Bishop pressed his hand to his cheek in horror as he read on; learning as he did so that the rest of the villagers were locked within the village hall of the settlement. Monahan took a deep rattling breath as he laid the paper aside and looked at the clock, “9am†he said aloud, time for the daily mass in Christ Church Cathedral.
The mass proceeded as normal, although many mutterings of disgust at the news were exchanged, until the time came for the dismissal when, unusually, the bishop once more climbed up into the pulpit. “My brothers and sisters,†he announced, “I’m sure you’ve all seen the papers and share my indignation at the inhuman treatment of the two deceased civilians and their living counterparts who even now live as cattle. This is not the first such act of ruthless disregard that has occurred in this dreadful war, I speak of course of the actions of extreme007 in Toketi. It is written, “Blesséd are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of Godâ€, therefore let us go forth and do the Lord’s work!†With that the bishop descended into the nave and lifted a silver crucifix-topped staff from its stand and marched determinedly down the aisle towards the door.
The bishop threw open the cathedral doors and stepped out into the brisk breeze of the clear morning and, his brightly coloured robes swirling around him and the congregation in tow, started off along the coast road to Government House which stood upon a low hill on the outskirts of the city. The crucifix being held aloft glistened in the weak sun of the morning as the procession ascended towards the centre of government, chanting as they went “Paix! Fraternité! Liberté!†Before long the protesters reached the gates of Government House where they halted and were soon joined by people from across the island; the banner of Christ Church Cathedral was soon joined on the hill by the banners of countless other churches so it seemed as if all the saints of Heaven protested with them for peace.
Inside Government House the Governor looked troubled as he watched the protest grow in size, “Mason,†he called to his aid, “radio the St Helena. Tell them to get themselves to that village.†As Mason bustled out of the room the Governor continued to watch more and more church banners join the mob outside his front gate, through the glass panes of the broad window singing echoed, “Onwards Christian soldiers, marching as to war, with the Cross of Jesus going on before. Christ, the Royal Master, leads against the foe; forward into battle, see his banners blow!â€

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: Missiles damaged the city, but due to inaccurate intel, did not actually kill anyone. Mabye just some rats. Or a stray dog. Which is good, since I don't like either. Anyway, Naval Infantry are now holding ura'Bos for Braden's landing.Sgt. Taylor stepped out from the treeline and into the light of the rolling green felds that carpeted the hills around Ura'Bos. He squinted a second, then reached for his sunglasses, and scanned the horizon. Nothing was moving, even the local feral cats had scattered into the woodline after the bombing yesterday, and had yet to return.
Taylor motioned for the rest of his squad, 3rd squad of Able company, SRT-1, to move forward. They were the vanguard for the day, clearing a path for the rest of the Naval Infantry to make its way into the city. He keyed his radio. "3r squad, clear forward."
100 yards to his right, 1st squad emerged from the treeline. "1st squad, right flank clear" they replied.
100 yrds to his left, 2nd squad did the same. "2nd squad, left flank clear."
Taylor took a second to adjust his pack and wipe the sweat from his brow. The anti-ballistic suits may mmake the SRTs damned near invincible, but they were hot as hell. Kevlar and ceramic plates tend not to breathe well in tropical climates, and the humidity certainly wasn't helping the situation. But he was used to it, he had worn the thing 24 hours a day for a month during his SRT training at OOB-1. It had stopped being just another piece of equipment, and was almost like a second skin. He inspected the SAW he was carrying, removed the twigs that had hitched a ride from crawling through the underbrush, and started across the field. 1st and 2nd squad kept pace, Baker was behind them, and the rest of the naval Infantry streamed out of the woods after them in a tactical column.
Taylor crouched as he neared the crest of the last hill, and motioned for the other teams to do the same. Sniper fireteam Charlie rushed up from behind and deployed next to him. The view of the ocean was spoiled by the smoke drifting up from the rubble that used to be Ura'Bos. Ardy's bombing had certainly hit the city hard, but it wasn't that bad. The bombs had only hit near the beach, so the hotel and everything closer to Taylor than that seemed untouched. After a few minutes, the sniper team seemed satisfied. "Looks clear, Taylor. No signs of troop movement except for our own, no improvsed defences, nothing. You're all clear to..."
The sniper trailed off. They could hear a faint noise in the distance that was starting to grow louder, and seemed to be coming from behind Sun City. "Incoming!" shouted Taylor.
Every soldier that could move dispersed, laid on their backs, and pointed their weapons skyward. But by the time that they were in position, the missiles were already passing overhead, and heading straight for the city. Taylor and the snipers turne dover just in time to watch as the first missile slammed into the hotel, shattering the windows and showering the surrounding area with broken glass. The other missiles impacted various parts of the city, seeming to completely ignore the mass of exposed Naval Infantrymen lying in the field a mere mile away. After the last missile had exploded, the snipers took another look around the city. "Still all clear, sir. Not a landing party in sight." And it was. Except for some additional smouldering houses, the city looked more or less the same. The hotel, rated to withstand the hurricanes that pounded this area every year, was more or less in tact as well.
Taylor chuckled. "Gunna have to do better than blindly firing into a city to get us." He keyed his radio again. "All squads, the city is clear. Moving in to secure the main highway."
OOC: BTW, if you had had specific targets, you should have enumerated them. I am amiable to amending my damage assessment should you feel more damage should be done to the city. But, much like battleship, if you fire at something that isn't there, and I haven't said I was holding the city yet, then you don't get any kills.

Yeah, I can't think of much when I'm only controlling one part of the attack. I don't think a summary is needed. Basically, same as last time. However, I am not standing for that small amount of plane casualties."Hahaha! We've got the enemy on the retreat! Bombers, take them out! Fighters, deal with any remaining air opposition! We shall crush this 'Maximilian' into the sea!
You had against you:
10 normal fighters
14 Stealth air-superiority fighters
They would be wiping your fighters and bombers off the floor (metaphor, don't try to take that literally). I'd expect me to have a couple planes damaged or destroyed (incidentally 6 of those stealth fighters are longbows) and you to be obliterated. Judges, can I have some closure on this?

Re: Official War Thread
summary: civilians take refuge in bunkers beneath the cities. or in damev they just seal off the mountain.Toketi
From the moment the first bombs had fallen sirens had begun to sound and citizens to scatter for shelters. it had taken time and many had been caught by fire and invaders but the solid steel doors of the bunkers beneath damev, and yashkona did finally swing shut sealing safely away the majority of the populous though admittedly yashkona was far to big to get by unscathed. But in time the people would rebuild but for now as they waited for the horrors of war to pass they fumed and many were filled with rage as they could feel explosions rock the very foundation of the land.
Summary:The CAA Fornacis, CAA Gomeisa, CAA Kraz and CAA Matar continue to engage the Z.M. Alfons II and Z.M. de Bourbon.Ardy's reach, submarine engagement. CAA Gomeisa
"Sir, their boomers are coming about. it looks like its moving to engage. Torpedoes!"
"Evasive maneuvers, reload our forward tubes prepare to launch aft torpedo."
The small submarine began to turn away from it prey accelerating and diving as it did so it launched countermeasures. an incoming torpedo lost tracking and exploded harmlessly away from the ship but a second was not so considerate. the concussive force of the blast sent a shock wave through the small sub and water began to permeate the hull.
"Captain we've been hit. minor damage across the hull."
"Get us on the surface"
"Aye, Aye Captain" moments later the small submarine launched itself into the air from beneath the sea.
The enemy subs despite their large size and lack of maneuverability were for the moment doing all right so far they had been lucky, but another wave of torpedoes was inbound.
-------------------------------------------------
CAA Achird
"Sir their boomers have engaged our mini-subs."
"Well we better act now then. Engage the enemy subs."
"Aye sir" As the enemy missile subs moved to engage their threats they failed to notice the larger hunter-killer subs sitting further way, now those sleek predators were slipping closer then all at once the CAA Achird launched a volley of torpedoes at the Z.M. Alfons II, while the CAA Maia Launched a volley at the Z.M. de Bourbon.
Mini subs take evasive action and deploy countermeasures and decoys as necessary but continue to engage their quarries. The CAA Gomeisa is damaged by a near miss and is forced to surface.
Then the CAA Achird and CAA Maia each launch secondary "surprise" attacks on the Z.M. Alfons II and Z.M. de Bourbon
These surprise attacks each consist of a full volley of 6 torpedoes. So each of your subs can expect to be trying to avoid 6 torpedoes plus however many have been launched by the mini subs probably 3-4 at each of your subs so each sub (Z.M. Alfons II and Z.M. de Bourbon) can probably expect 9 or 10 torpedoes coming at them.
---------------------------------------
No backstory for this bit but the subs attacking the surface ships continue to engage until the ships leave the vicinity. so probably another 7 harpoon missiles and a couple of torpedoes.

Re: Official War Thread
OOC: A several part post. I'll do them in order of war effort (which is in inverse to their backstory quality).
Also, Nick - if he had 5 fighters and 5 bombers against you, you'd probably lose 2-3 planes in fairness (but yes, would wipe his which you outnumber considerably).
For my further move, my subs continue to attack your Battleship, and the rest of my fleet fires upon your Battleship and Cruisers. Since I've said you're trying to move away, my fleet will try and keep a similar distance behind you as what we've already been.
Also, Nick - if he had 5 fighters and 5 bombers against you, you'd probably lose 2-3 planes in fairness (but yes, would wipe his which you outnumber considerably).
Summary: Sorry, Jeroen, but this one battle with the Omen is already going to be dragged out over a week, so I had to 24 hour you. Your carrier is heavily damaged from all the missiles fired at it, and has lost ICBM capacity. Your Diesel sub is destroyed. Your Battleship has had several torpedos to it's hull. I said you'd start trying to move away (I can't imagine you'd just sit there). One of my subs has minor damages from the fight but can still attack. Vilhelm, if those damages are too high, tell me. Having wiki-ied his fleet, I'm working on the assumption that the Cruisers are just AA and have no anti-sub/anti-missile capabilities. I'm also assuming two 1000 point subs beat 1 500 point one with ease. I don't really know what the Battleship can do against subs ..."Damage report," Mel'Kat demanded.
"The enemy fleet appears to have been taken completely by surprise, Admiral," his aide said. "Without fighters to defend, his Carrier was heavily damaged in the strike. If it doesn't sink, it's certainly lost its ICBM capacity, and it'll be limping. NSS Des has received minor damages, but nothing we can't repair. His sub is out - two on one was hardly a challenge, it wasn't even trying to hide it's signal. Their fleet appears to be attempting to move away from us, but the subs still caught the Battleship. It's taken several torpedos in the hull. From here, we can't see too much but we'd guess they'll probably turn to depth charges, if they have them - they certainly don't have any decent anti-submarine capabilities. The Cruisers are just for air."
"Radio NSS Des and NSS Troy to continue their attack on the Battleship. Together, they'll destroy," Mel'Kat joked. "Order the rest of our fleet to follow the enemy one, maintaining a similiar distance to the one we had when we began the attack. Continue firing everything we've got at the Battleship and those two Cruisers. We'll show the Batavians not to mess with Nelaga."
For my further move, my subs continue to attack your Battleship, and the rest of my fleet fires upon your Battleship and Cruisers. Since I've said you're trying to move away, my fleet will try and keep a similar distance behind you as what we've already been.
Summary: My ground forces return to Nova Kajar. News of Montague's latest missile strike means the troops are on high alert, ready to hide at any warning. My units capable of stopping missile blasts are ready to defend at any time. As we hope Prodigy's are.Sergeant Gryphon was delighted to hear from the patrols that work had ceased upon the trenches. "That should buy us some time," he said. The missile strike on Ura'Bos was less delightful. "Montague may well turn his eye here next, though, and though our Navy might be able to take out a half-strength Batavian one, it'll be no match for Lovely." he said to one of the Lieutenants.
"May I suggest we move away from these trenches, then?" the Lieutenant observed.
"You may indeed," said Ben. "I don't intend to be indefensible, on a flat plain, when he attacks."
"Then we shall return to Nova Kajar?" the Lieutenant asked.
"We shall," Ben said. "And hopefully Mel'Kat returns to, and I can stop having to command everything ..."
Summary: Andreas complains the mercenaries are backbone-less cowards for hiding behind the Anunia convention and not letting CITRA or other non-orbatted armies that still exist in Toketi and Novatainia fight them. Frederick returns, to say that though he couldn't get into contact with Prodigy, word was nothing was stolen. He adds the good news that Mannimarco has released his servant, Lucifer, to wreak destruction upon the mercenaries. Andreas writes a letter to Lucifer extending warm greetings and appointing him and his men Officers of the Crown (empowered under the Government Knows Best Act to seize any sensitive items the mercenaries possess, and to arrest them on suspicion of War Crimes). Andreas hopes that Lucifer's army will use this power to at least capture the leader alive so he can try out some Restorative Justice. Finally, Frederick announces (in utmost secrecy) that Cla'Udi is worried Sakat is getting dangerous ideas into his head. Andreas decides to try and have a word with him.Andreas was at his office in the Spire, this time. He was still awaiting word from Frederick, though Caspian was ready to go. While he'd been waiting, he'd pushed an 'External State of Emergency' declaration through the Council of Regional Representatives, and got the Chief of Police to sign off on an arrest warrant for Extreme and his forces. Now the War Crimes and Government Knows Best acts were in operation, and any Novatainian police officer was legally empowered to arrest for it.
"I still think they're cowards," Andreas said to Caspian, who was with him.
"Hmm?" Caspian asked. His mind was already on the mission ahead.
"The mercenaries," Andreas said. "I mean, they avoid all the fighting. They attack civilians for no apparent purpose other than spite. And they stop any unit that attempts to fight back by cowering under that damned Convention."
"A Convention, I note, you helped write," Caspian observed dryly.
"And if I had the chance to rewrite it, I'd certainly put something in against this," Andreas said angrily. "It's not as if the Tokians don't have defence in their homeland. The armies there are probably five times the mercenary force, at least. Not to mention the magical contingent. But no, these mercenaries can't fight cleanly. They have to hide behind the Anunia Convention, which makes it illegal for non-declared forces to actually fight them. If they had any backbone at all, they'd face Toketi under CITRA, and then they'd get what they so richly deserve."
"I'm sorry," Caspian said, "but are you complaining that mercenaries are avoiding fighting at all costs, looting and pillaging, and only attacking the defenceless? I'd think that that's standard mercenary activity."
"Only for the bad ones," Andreas replied. "I thought these were half decent - or, at least, considered their military ability half decent. If they did, they shouldn't have to hide behind the Anunia Convention. They shouldn't wave that in the face of any non-official unit that tries to attack them. Wars have rules for a reason, and that reason is NOT to make it illegal for people to resist mercenaries. It's meant to be to stop people doing too much unnecessary collateral damage, and focus them on the other armed forces."
"Well, some people are just nasty," Caspian said. "I agree with you that anybody who had any confidence in their fighting talent wouldn't claim all the numerous armies in a land don't legally exist and thus not fight them. But what are we to do about it? We can try and recover their stolen equipment, IF it has Durium and we can track it, but we can't legally hurt them either."
"Well, I'll certainly see that they're blacklisted from this side of Apollonia to the far side of Benacia," Andreas said. "Bloomin' cowards."
Before Caspian could reply, Frederick appeared in the room.
"We can strike?" Caspian said, brightening up.
"I wasn't able to get an audience with his majesty," Frederick said, with obvious annoyance. "Though the word on the street is that the facility they attacked didn't actually have anything in it. Anything legal, that is. Hence, nothing to recover."
"Unfortunately, anything legal also probably won't include Durium," Andreas said, sighing.
"I do have some good news," Frederick interjected. "There's been a spot of divine intervention in this war. Mannimarco has released his loyal servant from his other earthly duties in order to better defend his homeland. For a dark god of human sacrafice and forbidden arts, Mannimarco has an apparently patriotic streak. First 'liberating from technological oppression.' Now 'defending the homeland.'"
"So Lucifer has deployed an army?" Andreas asked.
"He has indeed," Frederick replied. "And already he's making his way towards those mercenaries."
"Lucifer may yet redeem himself in death," Andreas joked. "Well, that gives me something to do at least."
"Do?" Frederick asked. "I know there's bad blood between you two, but you're not going to stop him, are you?"
"Quite the contrary," Andreas replied. "I'm going to appoint him an Officer of the Crown."
It was several minutes later, and Andreas' secretary was reading back a note that had been dictated to her.
"My warmest greetings to Lucifer, Lord of Tierra de Muerta;
I am most delighted to hear that you intend to remove this mercenary scum from the fair lands of Toketi. While I cannot legally give more troops to assist you, I can do this. You and your men are appointed Honourary Officers of the Crown, with all the privileges thereof, for the duration of this war. As such, you are legally empowered under the Government Knows Best Act to seize any items of a 'sensitive nature' that these mercenaries possess. Also, under the War Decree, countersigned by the Chief of Police, you and your men are legally empowered to arrest any of the mercenaries taken alive, on suspicion of War Crimes. A copy of the Arrest Warrant is attached, should you get the opportunity to use it. May I offer you my personal best wishes, and prayer that a god of some description is with you.
Yours sincerely,
King Andreas the Overtitled."
"Excellent," Andreas said. "Let's hope Lucifer brings back the leader of those mercenaries alive. After losing the last person suspected of War Crimes to a stroke, I'd hate to waste this obvious opportunity for Restorative Justice."
"Restorative Justice?" Frederick said, surprised. "Surely a death sentence is more appropriate."
"No," Andreas said, "I've been hearing about Restorative Justice lately. I'd prefer that the mercenary understand the full implications of his actions and the full damage he caused ..."
"Ah ... much more painful, then," Frederick replied, smiling evily.
"I didn't say that," Andreas answered carefully. "It's just more healing for the community in the end."
"M'Lord, I take it the services of the Dark Watchers shall not be required then?" Caspian asked.
"Possibly not, but ask them to keep a weather eye out," Andreas replied. "If we get a chance ..."
"Very good, m'Lord," Caspian said. "If you'll excuse me ..." and he left.
Frederick made coughing noises, and the secretary politely stood up. "Anything else, your Majesty?"
"No, thankyou, that's all," Andreas replied. The secretary also left.
"I have something to say to you in private," Frederick began. "I mentioned divine intervention. My joking reference to Mannimarco is not the only divine presence around. While trying to contact Prodigy, I was told, quite by accident, that Cla'Udi wanted to get a message to you. One he didn't trust to send."
"But Cla'Udi's meant to be deputy Count of Melangia, helping Sakat," Andreas said. "Surely the Anticans haven't ..."
"It wasn't the Anticans at all," Frederick replied. "I went to Cla'Udi himself, and he consented to tell me his message, on the condition I only repeated it to you. It's about Sakat. He's ... doing odd things."
"He's a god," Andreas said. "God's do odd things. Especially those in squid form."
"Much more odd that normal, then," Frederick said. He muttered a charm to ensure no one could eavesdrop, then leaned close, whispering, "Cla'Udi worries Sakat is getting dangerous ideas. Ideas like 'The floating islands should stay down.' Apparently he seems to have got it into his head that by being an ancient civilisation it's his domain, and by reviving it, it passes out of his domain into that of the god of Enlightenment. You know how dangerous an immortal, even an anthropomorphic personification, acting on his own ideas can be ..."
"I'll have to have a word with him," Andreas replied. "I wonder if I'll be able to find him."
"Just pray you do before he does something ... ahistorical," Frederick answered, and then stood up.
"Well, I'm off to prepare Academy war efforts," he announced, and left the room, leaving Andreas to his thoughts.

Re: Official War Thread
FIoJ Fist Omen-class Gravship, holding position barely over the mainland of Redoubt island just south of the Interland border
Summary: from an outsider’s perspective, all that would appear to be happening is that Nicholas’s fighters have been called to return to the Omen once their mission is complete and that the Omen is not pursuing Max’s fleet. On the inside though it seems a major power struggle is starting to brew with the President of Nelaga right in the middle of it.
Nick: please don’t play the paratroopers yet, unless the action is for them to leave the Omen by paradropping down to Maraguo below. That’s okay, but anything else (like having my characters meet them and trying to use them to retake the Omen) would spoil what I have in mind.
Areuhat entered the Omen bridge and was met with some satisfied faces. The battle was going very well.
A crewman reported, “Sir, the enemy air force has been turned back by our allies. Also, the naval force we’ve been bombarding found itself under attack by allied submarines and is moving out of range. They seem to be performing a controlled withdrawal, likely for repair and salvage purposes.â€
“Very good. Call back Nicholas’s fighters once they have secured the airspace and hold our position until we’ve assessed damages,†Harvey said mildly as he nursed an arm bruised in the emergency dive.
“We aren’t going to pursue them?†Vice-Captain Nickleson asked.
“No, we are not. I don’t need my enemies dead, just defeated.â€
“But this is the perfect time to push our advantage. What if they regroup and attack again?â€
Harvey shook his head, “Then we beat them off again,†he said, as if it really was a simple as that. “What you have to understand is this isn’t some backwater province we’re fighting over here. These lands will be our lands when this war is over, and these enemies our neighbors. How we treat them matters for more than today’s battles; it will affect our foreign policy for years.â€
“Then you wouldn’t be interested in knowing that Andreas’s and our engineers believe we may have solved the problem with the big gun and could have it working in as early as two days, because you would be loathe to fire such a weapon even at our enemies?†Nickleson asked dryly
With conviction, Harvey said, “Absolutely.â€
Nickleson stared for a moment, then said, “Well then. Allow me to-“
Areuhat cut in, “Enough. Clearly Harvey has been hurt. I think it would be a good idea to have the infirmly look at that arm.â€
“Erm, that hardly seems necessary. Thank you for your concern though,†Harvey said.
“Are you sure? That bruise is turning as purple as a Zlatni Rat.†Areuhat said.
Harvey looked confused for a moment, then said, “I suppose you’re right. It wouldn’t do if word got out that I’ve been seriously injured. Command is yours for the time being, Nickleson. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.â€
“I shall accompany him,†Areuhat said as she led Harvey from the room by the other arm. “Stay safe, gentlemen.â€
“Be well, my Captain,†Nickleson called as left.
As soon as they were gone, he gave a quick nod to one of the soldiers on the bridge, who left through another door.
“Areuhat, what the hell is going on?†Harvey asked when they were a safe distance away from the bridge. Mentioning Zlatni Rat like that was a safe word between the two – a covert form of ‘trust me.’ It was something they’d developed on their many dangerous journeys where they could not speak freely but needed the other to follow a lead.
“Nickleson is going to take over the Omen. He would have had us separated just then somehow, and either imprisoned or shot,†Areuhat said, letting a bit of actual rage into her voice for once.
“What?!†Harvey exclaimed. “What the hell? Then why are we leaving? We have to stop him!â€
But Areuhat shook her head. “At least some of our security personnel are on his side, possibly all of them. We have no chance against the entire lot of them. We may have been able to take out Nickleson himself, but he’s probably got a whole command structure, so whoever put him up to this would still get control of the Omen and we’d get dead. That’s not worth dying for.â€
If there was one thing Harvey liked about Areuhat, it was how fast she worked out the solution that didn’t involve them dead. He asked, “How long have you known about this?â€
“About ten minutes ago. I overheard one of the guards talking about Nickleson and some sort of plot, then checked a computer and quickly did some research to find that he and a large list of other crew members are on some sort of foreign payroll. Then I got to the bridge as fast as I could to get you out.â€
As he was dragged along, Harvey boggled. “You figured all this out in ten minutes?â€
“Like I said, it was quick research.â€
“Okay, so where to? Not the infirmary, I take it. Nickleson will probably send some guys to have us shot or something.â€
Areuhat nodded, “Right. We’re going to see if we can reach whoever is leading General Nicholas’s paratroopers that are on board. With their help, we have a chance of taking this thing back.â€
Harvey broke Aruehat’s grasp. “Well then, what are we waiting for? There’s a lot of Omen corridor between them and us, and I’m guessing we don’t have a lot of time. Time to jog!â€
Smiling, Areuhat matched his pace, and the two hastened through the maze of metal.

Re: Official War Thread
Summary: I'm going to head Omen-ways to see if I can help"Omen? This is Fides, we're taking up Andreas' offer to accompany you as a defensive force..."
"Do we talk back?"
"Not yet..."
"OMEN? Is this thing on? Different channel? Um, how do you do that?"
"Get ready to shoot him down when he comes. We don't even need to talk to him, he's an idiot."
"And you're leaning on the button." Said Fides
OOC: Strangely enough, the first line was written before this happened, but the rest was improvised... Sorry; I did have a paragraph...
It didn't fit in my avatar...
