Re: Official War Thread
Slight technicality, but it was two destroyers and two missile attack subs.Lord_Montague wrote:Prodigy's two ships which fired 240.
I was going to do backstory, but it was probably going to be boring and uninspired because I just finished a shift of work. Also, I'm going out in a few minutes, so it would be a little hurried. Sorry about that.
SUMMARY: Destroyers and subs rendezvous east of Airosamente island, wherein they split up again and head to two different secret locations. Land forces create a forward base of operation and a defensive perimeter, as well as aiding Antican wounded.

Re: Official War Thread
OOC: Montague, got a couple of questions.
First, how are these helicopter ASW sweeps performed, and how do they detect what I've dropped into the water? It's a torpedo 8 meters by half a meter underwater, tethered to a passive sonobuoy, which is about a handswidth wide and an armslength long. All together, it's like a mostly submerged car. They're also all in position well within surface-to-air missile range, meaning that any helicopters that are passing over nearby would risk being very easily shot down before finding much.
Second, how does a helicopter get within 25 km of any of my ships? That's within range of my destroyers' main guns, let alone missile range. Plus, I've already noted that my fighters are covering the area over my ships.

OOC: chrim (btw if that abbreviation isn't liked feel free to tell me!) I'd prefer to conduct this outside the war thread but quick responses:
1. Dipping sonar, looking at any anomalies that ship sonar detects etc. They heard the helicopters drop the things in the water and analysis determined it wasn't a natural sound. There were no other ships in the area meaning its not debris and intelligence reports (i.e looking at what has been made available by other commanders as to their positions) indicate that there were no downed aircraft. The cruise missile debris would have already landed on the sea and wouldnt have landed to the north of you due to the direction of the attack. Its a logical conclusion that you've dropped something and considering an enemy fleet is coming to attack you, the worst case scenario for Hastings is mines.
2. Shoot it down then. But also, any comparable SAM in RL for your longbow SAM?

1. Ooh... this is nifty technology... okie dokie.
2. Yeah, I probably should have put that in the OrBat. The Longbow SAM is the Standard Missile with a different brand name.

"Sir. There seems to have been a problem with communication. We thought our prior attack on the cities had gone to perfection. However, it now appears that that might not have been the case."
There was some noise in the dark room, as the supreme commander of the mercenary task force moved around disgruntled in his chair.
The officer continued on, after a small pause, which he used up for gulping.
"The pilots reported a malfunction in the Weteye bomb's release mechanism. The bombs failed to release themselves from their aircrafts, and as a result were not used. We are..."
The officer heard more noises from behind the dimly lit table. He could barely make out the shape of the person as HE sat amongst the shadows, formed by all the odd shapes that were kept in front of some of the light sources in the room. The majority of light sources being the monitor screens, displaying maps of the regions with the mercenary and enemy forces on them, as well as the map of Jasonia islands with allied military positions on them as well as known enemy positions based on intelligence being shared between the allies.
"We are currently working on removing the problems so that we can fire the Weteye bombs sir. But I..."
The officer stopped and wondered what the implications of completing that sentence would be. He knew the work could be completed, but was not sure if it would be done on time in order to use the weapon against the Tokians. He decided it was best to not inform the supreme commander, lest he wanted to see the dark side of HIM.
Summary:
Nothing much. I didn't want to go back and edit the previous posts to remove the usage of chemical weapon. Instead, wrote this, in which the bombs were never fired due to some technical malfunctions.

OOC: This response is built out of
a. Monty firing at the wrong spot because I wasn't clear enough in my location, and me taking his suggestion "why not one volley miss, one volley hit?"
b. Me being totally confused as to what the second volley is because I can only see him firing 16 missiles at me from a sub that has 16 VLS tubes.
So to not hold this war up any longer (since unfortunately Monty's only on once a day in my very early hours of the morning) I'm going to go with "one volley of two = half of those 16 missiles". Monty, if this is wrong just bring it up in our thread out there and I can change by my damages.
Meanwhile, in the nearby water, almost 500 magiGARP perish under the barrage of poorly aimed missiles. (you do say Jasonian Mutant Fish )
The fleet returns to port, to make any simple repairs, and plan their next move. They remain on high alert.

Summary: With the above assumption of 8 missiles in a separate volley: 2 still miss, 4 are shot down, 2 hit. (I calculated this off comparing to the 24 hour damages you did to the Anticans, and allowing for the fact I had more ships to defend and wasn't being 24 houred). One is a minor blow to NSS Pragma, knocking out one 155mm gun; the other is a solid hit to the NSS Montague, reducing anti-sub capabilities to 50%."We have incoming!" a soldier cried, as missiles entered the radar screen. They were moving fast and they had seconds to respond.
"All troops to defensive positions, fire our response!" Mel'Kat cried, but it wasn't necessary. The troops had known Montague's fleet was around for days, and were accordingly prepared. From each of the destroyers a volley of missile-intercepts flew up - and a smaller but similar volley from the Battleship/carriers. But it was for naught. The missiles, which could now be seen with the naked eye, slammed straight into the mouth of the river at Provost island, near where they were patrolling.
"That was a close miss, sir," an aide cried.
"Don't trust to misses lad," Mel'Kat replied. "If I know Montague, there's more where that came from."
"More incoming!" a soldier called, on cue. Another eight missiles had appeared on screen, these having gained the updated position of the fleet from the first strike. Mel'Kat didn't even bother to order this time, as his ship's defences went up. He watches as one, two missiles plunged into the sea near them, blowing some magiGARP into the air, but nothing more. Four more were shot down, but the last two slammed into the fleet - a glancing blow to NSS Pragma, knocking out one 155mm gun; and a solid hit to the NSS Montague, right in her anti-sub weaponry.
"Prepare for more!" Mel'Kat yelled, as soldiers on the NSS Montague ran to check the damages, but nothing more came. Mel'Kat wouldn't be able to tell for sure until they'd had time to investigate, but at a glance, the anti-sub capabilities were at 60%, maybe only 50%.
"Return to Port," Mel'Kat cried, after it was evident that no further missiles were immediately coming. "We'll do repairs and then decide how to counter this new threat."
Meanwhile, in the nearby water, almost 500 magiGARP perish under the barrage of poorly aimed missiles. (you do say Jasonian Mutant Fish )
The fleet returns to port, to make any simple repairs, and plan their next move. They remain on high alert.
Summary: Cla'Udi shows Frederick and Andreas knowledge that you mere temporal beings shouldn't bother yourselves with. The important thing is, he's certain now that Nelaga is historically meant to rise again. Now they just have to do something about it. And he also learns of the Hyperborean diggings ...Andreas and Frederick were about to leave their meeting with Cla'Udi, when he said, "Would you like to be sure?"
"Sure what?" Frederick asked.
"Sure that the Nelagan's revival of Jasonia is written in to suceed," Cla'Udi replied. "Doubtless you would feel embarrassed to argue to Sakat he must change his actions if he is only doing what he always does."
"How can we be sure?" Andreas asked.
"Follow me," Cla'Udi said. And he began to walk off, towards the Temple of Sakat.
He led them in by a side door, and then through several more side doors. The passages seemed all unimportant but oddly ... mazelike. Finally, they found a door that, disobeying all dramatic laws, looked perfectly ordinary, and was labelled, "Ink Closet." Cla'Udi went up to the door, and drew from his pocket a vial of what looked like squid ink. He dripped it on the handle.
At once, the door began to change, and grow - and in moments it was several metres high and wide, two giant wooden doors ornately carved to form a single squid, and a book. Cla'Udi, old though he was, pushed them open with a nudge. They swung open, and he began to explain.
"Andreas, in the Kildarian Time Wars you met the Time Revisionists - an elite magical Melangian force who's job is it to make sure history goes as its meant to. But we didn't show you all of their facilities."
The doors swung behind them, and Andreas, Frederick and Cla'Udi foudn themselves in a vast room. They could not see the other walls, nor the roof. All around them were bookshelves filled with bound books. They could see a number open, with quills writing on them in finest squid ink. Where the ceiling would have been in a normal room hung a sign, 'Biographies', though the shelves themselves continued up as far as the eye could see, and what held the sign up was beyond temporal comprehension. But all these shelves dwarved in comparison to the vast book in front of them. It too was bound, apparently, and it's pages looked old, but its size was so massive it could barely be taken in at one look. And, writing on it was a quill so big it's feather must have come from a bird even larger than a Roc, occasionally dipping into a vial of squid ink that stood by the book, so high that it would make a dragon look small. The book was open, and on the page, in neat, simple letters, was being written, "... and Montague's fleet continued to cause havoc amongst ..."
"This is history being written," Cla'Udi announced proudly. "The history of all of Micras to date is written here, as it happens. This is histroy being written before us," he repeated. Then he led them around behind the book. "And this," he said proudly, motioning at another book of similiar proportions, "is what we check it against."
This second book, on closer inspection, looked identical to the first, save that it was closed. It's cover bore the title, 'The Complete and Unabridged History of Micras.' The author's name was obscured, and before Andreas could look closer, Cla'Udi touched at a page and the book, by itself, opened. Andreas gasped. The writing on the page was identical to the one before, save that this page was already written. Andreas read the same sentence he had before, "... and Montague's fleet continued to cause havoc amongst the Nelagan allies. His tactics of firing and hiding appeared effective," and ran to the book behind him. There, where the sentence had now finished being written, it read exactly the same.
"History is being written as we speak," Cla'Udi said, "and yet, here it is, already written." He gestured unnecessarily at the book. "It is the job of the Time Revisionists to check that both books read the same, and if one does not ... it is our job to change reality until it does."
"But if history is already written, what room does that leave for free will?" Andreas asked.
To his surprise, Cla'Udi laughed - a deep, mellow laugh. "Andreas, you fought in the Time Wars," he said. "You've seen just how easy it is for someone to try and change history. There is room and to spare for free will."
"But don't you change it back?" Andreas asked.
"Yes and no," Cla'Udi replied. He saw their puzzled expressions, and continued, "This is history. The big stuff. This book is not every action of every person - if it was, our job would be impossible. We just make sure the big stuff ends the right way. How people achieve that in the middle is up to them. That's how free will fits in. That's what the Biographies are for anyway - they're people's every action as it happens."
"So we could see how the history of Micras ended?" Frederick asked. He had been trying to look to see how many pages were left after the current one, and how many had come before, but the book seemed to be doing odd things to his eyes.
"No," Cla'Udi said, "and nor can you guess by the number of pages. This is history - when nothing happens, a hundred years can be told in a single page - at times like this, when great changes are afoot, it may take a chapter to tell of a day. Who are we to say how exciting the end times shall be, and thus judge the time too them? Besides, being a Time Revisionist is a sacred trust. By rights I shouldn't be showing you this, and for exactly the question you just asked, Frederick. It is only permitted for us to see a few years into the future - to know where to direct things, if changes are occuring. We must be the sort of people who will not ask, 'How does it end?' for if we were, the knowledge would be too great. People have died from trying to read further than they aught."
An uneasy silence fell over the group, then Andreas said, "Well, can we read to the end of the war then?"
"I will do it for you," Cla'Udi said, "but yes, that is why we are here."
He touched the book, and the pages began to slowly turn. Cla'Udi skimmed snatches of it as the pages went. "The Mercenary forces were finally ... the Novan fleet began to ... the Ocians submitted their final land claim drawn by Andreas ..."
"The Ocians submitted their final land claim drawn by Andreas?" Frederick asked.
"The book tries to run thematically," Cla'Udi said, "but more importantly it runs perfectly chronologically. You get odd stuff in the middle of battles. You should see what your ancestors were doing during the War of the Orchids ..." He stopped himself and continued reading. "The Hyperborean archaeology unearthed ... here we are ... And with the signing of the Flying Island Pact, Nelaga was granted full status as a country and control of their ancestral islands, while the Floating Island Pact was formally rescinded. Nelaga had achieved what no one had thought possible - they had restored the ideals of the ancient state of Jasonia to the modern world. Just once, history allowed an Empire to rise again."
"So we win, in the end," Frederick said, looking at Andreas.
"Oh, erm, yes ..." Andreas said. "It sounds like that." His mind was still on the phrase "Hyperborean archaeology."
"Not necessarily," Cla'Udi said. "Remember free will. Remember Stora. There is a reason the knowledge in this book is generally denied to all save Time Revisionists. It does not pay to put too much trust in it. This is how it is meant to go. If we do our job right, eventually it will. But many times the actions of individuals stops things occuring how they were meant to go, especially if those individuals are divine ..."
"Well, we have our certainty re Sakat, anyway," Andreas said. "We need only find him and convince him."
"That may still be a harder task than you expect," Cla'Udi said, as the giant book closed behind them. They walked out, past the double doors, which shimmered and turned into a single, mundane door marked 'Ink Closet'.
"I still don't understand why you label it Ink Closet," Frederick said. "What if someone wants Ink?"
"The door is locked," Cla'Udi said, "unless you know the way of entering. Anyone who wants ink will not have it to open the door - it stands to reason." Cla'Udi smiled, though Frederick suspected there was more to it than this.
"But now we must return," Andreas said. "I feel we have spent too long away from the War Zone."
"To find Sakat?" Frederick asked.
"To find out more about this 'archaeology'," Andreas replied. He turned to Cla'Udi. "Many thanks again, old friend. I leave you in charge of the County for a little longer."
"No, thank you, my Count," Cla'Udi replied. "Time Revisionists are used to fighting all manner of foes, but telling their own commander he's messing up history is beyond any of us. If you suceed ... when you succeed, the Melangian people will owe a great debt to you. And we remember debts."
"As long as they go down in the record books," Andreas said, laughing. And with that, he and Frederick were off. There was a war to be won, a god to be converted, and some archaeology to investigate. It was beginning to look like an expedition. And expeditions always made for interesting history ...

I'd be willing to take somewhere from 500-1000 casualties.
In fact, if you've got dice, why not make it (2d6 * 100)+200 casualties? Start adding a random factor. I'll trust you to make the roll.

Somewhere in the waters
The last of the Osprey's landed on the deck of the X-1000 aircraft carrier. Out rolled an S-400 anti-aircraft unit and two HUMRAAMs. They waited on the lift to be taken to the level underneath, from where they would take another lift to go to yet another level in the giant aircraft carrier. Once on their level, they would park themselves alongside the rest of the anti-aircraft units and the ground vehicles that had either been on board the carrier the entire time, or were lucky enough to be posted away from Yaskhona airbase and thus, managed to survive the Tokian attack. Now, with all the forces back inside the carrier, the mercenary force was ready to finally get out of the region. There were still planes in the air, but these were providing cover for any Tokian air attack. And these would remain in the air throughout the entire journey, being replaced by another group when the fuel ran out for the first.
The most recent attack on the Tokians had been very successfull, primarily because of the target that was destroyed. The enemy aircraft carrier, named Dinner De Arran by the mercenaries, after some Tokian regional leader of similar name, was sunk near their own territorial waters. X-200, the attack submarine had managed to fire off eight torpedoes against the target, six of which had hit it and made giant holes in the ship. There was even a rumor spreading throughout the fleet that they could have sailed with the carrier for as long as possible without getting detected as they were directly underneath the enemy carrier. Any sonar operator would only get one signal from the carrier and the submarine, which they would easily mistake for the carrier. And anyone listening for noises being made would be fooled into thinking the carrier was responsible, not because they were both originating from the same area, but also because the carrier was making more noise. But that was all too technical and the officers and personnel of the mercenary force were just happy to live with the fact that the enemy carrier was sunk. With the mercenary group, one could always expect some bonus goals being achieved. And in this attack, there was nothing different. X-200's reports claimed that the aircraft carrier had, just prior to the target being hit, taken on seven aircrafts. Seven aircrafts were still seven aircrafts, not to mention any more that the carrier might have already had in her.
The plan now for the mercenary fleet was to head to the waters near Babkha, where they would be refueled and rearmed. They would also pick up some additional personnel and goods to be used in the upcoming actions. Till then, the officers were going to enjoy a nice little vacation. A much needed break from all the havoc they created in Toketi. They were going to need it. A much tougher opponent lay ahead. A proper opponent. A respectable and experienced opponent. The Anticans. And off course, the minor problem of the humongous ship called the Omen.
The Anticans plus the Omen, versus the mercenary fleet plus the Lovely fleet plus Ardashir. And a hospital ship somewhere in there, waiting to be sunk.
Summary:
Din Arran's carrier sunk with 7 F-35s on board. I don't know where the rest went.
My fleet is now leaving Toketi. Fleet information (as in, which ship is where) is PMed to judge.

Re: Official War Thread
SUMMARY: Defense against missile strike. Casulaties: five mechanized infantrymen, two AA guns. The radio operator had a portable version of his normal accoutrements, packed into a bulky backpack. It was strange: Braden might be in the middle of a tactical conversation with the members of his general staff when, suddenly, staticky voices would be heard emanating from inside the backpack. It could be quite startling on occasion, but Braden had not been startled so much by the conversation he had just held, as he had been filled with apprehension, not to say sheer dread.
A certain pilot with the air attachment of the First Carrier Group, callsign Iapyx, had rather blithely informed Braden that three ACMs were "headed straight for them." Deciding it would be best not to panic the men unduly, Braden ordered the organic personages to take cover as best as possible (not that it mattered especially, since missiles of that nature, assisted by computer technology, were very capable of adjustment to hit a target) and had the AA battery take defensive positions.
Three white dots on the horizon grew perpetually larger and larger, and the rushing and whistling of the displaced air around them grew almost unbearable. The insufferable tension was broken when, with a tumultuous cracking, the guns fired: a terrible roaring was heard, and in the sky, a fuel air bomb exploded terrifically, sucking the air out of its immediate surroundings, and replacing it with fire. The other two missiles were similarly detonated before landfall.
A few minutes passed when Iapyx was again heard crackling over the wireless, this time to announce the imminent advent of twenty-six Tomahawk missiles. Ten had been dutifully dispatched by the Carrier Group, and Braden possessed more AA guns than there were missiles coming, so his heart was leavened somewhat: nevertheless, he was shaken considerably by the terrible blasts that filled the air as the missiles were shot down, and even more so by the results of those shells which survived the counterassault: due to poor aim, two of the Tomahawk missiles indeed found their way back to solid earth, laying low two anti-aircraft guns and blowing the charred, dismembered corpses of five unfortunate men into the firmament.
Braden emerged from behind a large rock, leading Gunpowder--who ought to have been mad with instinctive fright--by the reins. He observed the destruction and peril about him: mangled machinery and human bodies destroyed in ways which God had never intended. All was the terrible work of man, with his terrible and wonderful gift, Invention. Braden observed that Colonel Munier and his other friends were alive, and patted his old horse's snout in what I suppose was a gesture of thanks. He ordered the bodies bagged up as well as possible, identified if it could be done. The tanks rolled into action once more.

Antican Destroyer Menippē
Captain Darling looked over the Damage Control Status Board. PVLS Module 9 was more or less permanently out of action until the Menippē could get serviced. What fortune, Darling thought, that the cruise missile did not impact something more vital. This time.
"Message from the Halimēdē, sir. For Captains' eyes only."
It printed out and Darling collected it. It read:
MISSILE DEFENSE WAS SUBSTANDARD.
Captain Darling crumpled the paper in his hand and moved to the waste bin to dispose of it outright. No, he thought, someone might find it. Instead, he pocketed it to shred in his cabin. Or burn it. Missile defense was substandard! Scutarius's own ship was hit too. Stuck up patrician snob.
"Picking up something on Radar."
"Communications, confirm that with the others."
"Aye, sir... KymothoÄ“ confirms... DÅtÅ and HalimÄ“dÄ“ confirm."
"It doesn't appear to be a missile... it's not moving all that fast. Attempting to identify... Range is somewhere around 220 kilometers. It's still right on the-- I've lost it. Contact lost."
"Any idea on what it could have been?"
"No indication sir. Maybe it was a missile, and it went into sea-skimming mode. If that's the case, we should be able to attain a solid fix at 160 kilometers or so. By that point, we should be able to identify it."
"Fire Control, status please."
"Main Guns ready on Suppressive Fire Mode. CIWS guns ready. Missile launcher modules One through Eight, Ten through Twenty online and ready."
"Excellent. I'll be in my cabin."
Somewhere, Airosamente Island
"Here we are, sir." Lt Melanthia unfolded a large roadmap of the island. "They had some inside."
"Very nice, Lieutenant," Christopher said. He lifted up his glasses to more closely examine the map. "Did he say where we are?"
"He had a map laid out with an arrow pointing to..." She paused to find the location, running her finger along the map until it came to a point. Christopher dared not try to pronounce its name. "This location. 'You are Here' perhaps?"
"Probably. Let's see... what the hell is near here..." Christopher followed the lines of road. "Airo....samente... Airosamente? Isn't that the name of the island?"
"It might also be the name of the city."
"Well that's silly. Let's head there, anyway. If it's named after the island, it's got to be important. Plus, it's near the water, so it'll be a good stepping stone for a boat."
"Did you even read the fact files on the region?" Captain Macarius asked.
"Why, is there anything important that I should know about?"
Macarius shrugged. Christopher wondered if he could activate one of the grenades Macarius had pocketted without him noticing, and then tell everyone to walk away nonchalantly. Everyone piled back into the truck. Midshipman Tully drove. Lt Melanthia sat in the passenger seat with the map. Christopher joined Hadrian, Beck, and Lee in the back. Macarius stepped in and flipped up the tail gate right as the truck began to drift forward. They pulled back onto the road and accelerated down it.
Antican Destroyer Halimēdē
Lieutenant Valeria slowly sank into the seat by the command console. Captain Scutarius never actually used it, preferring to stand. Valeria figured that he understood why the Officer of the Deck usually chose to sit, since watches were so long. Even he, in his uprightness, would soon get antsy.
Nothing on Radar since that helicopter that made a close pass on the Menippē. How her captain could allow an enemey craft so closer to her before firing... it was beyond Katharine's understanging. At least once the Menippe's Captain woke up, she made mince out of it and its two missiles. That helicopter was so close, the Menippē did it all with its main guns. Captain Scutarius had said to ration surface-to-air missiles, enemy aircraft were obviously worth it. The Captain would probably send another memo to the Menippē's captain.
"Captain on Deck." Called one sailor. Captain Scutarius entered through the aft starboard hatch.
"Communications, I have instructions for the group." He handed the Comm Operator hand-written instructions to type out for scrambled transmission. Scutarius looked to Lt Valeria and probably read her curiosity. He leaned closer to speak quietly to her. "Move closer together so that we can provide better cover for one another. I get the feeling that the Lovelians are preparing for something to overwhelm us. I doubt that we will be needed to provide cover for the Sylvanians. Their anti-air defenses are up and running and our fighters are relaying them the necessary information to shoot them down near flawlessly.
"The Lovelians... they do seem interested in finishing what they had started."
"UAVs linked in, sir." The Radar Operator reported.
"Excellent. Launch when ready."
After a moment of silence, the words "UAV 1 in the air" were heard. After another moment of silence, "UAV 2 in the air" were added.
"And now, we wait." Scutarius said. He walked back to the Comm Operator, who was finishing up his typing of the message. "Add on the end the following: Ready Twelve Cruise Missiles to launch. Targets to follow."
"Sent out, sir." The Comm Operator said.
"Now, send a message to that Gentleman from Toketi. Let him know that coordinates will be relayed to him at the earliest possible moment."
Lovelian Lynx Helicopter destroyed as well as the two missiles it had fired.Antican Destroyer Halimēdē
"Thank you, Mister Telenia." Captain Scutarius said, accepting a cup of tea from the Midshipman. Holding the saucer in his left hand, his right hand lifted the cup to his lips to get a quick taste. Still a little too hot. He returned it to the saucer and began to wander around the Command Center once more.
The two UAVs were scanning through the sea to the northeast, the source of one of the missile barrages. The Lovelians did reveal something about their formation when they unleased that barrage, that they were divided into two groups. It was probably done in order to better pin the Anticans against the Airosamente coast. Coming in as one group could have allowed an easier exit in the opposite direction, or at least a perpendicular one. In the formation the Lovelians had chosen, there was no perpendicular. Any exit from their position would force the Anticans to close distance with some aspect of the Lovelian fleet. It was smart.
"UAV 2 is picking up something north-northeast of its current location."
Scutarius stood behind the Radar Operator to see precisely what he was referring to. "Having it turn to close on that. Is it at maximum speed?"
"No, sir. It's cruising to conserve fuel."
"Go to maximum speed. If that is it, then we won't have too long before they shoot it down."
"Aye, sir."
A few minutes went by, as the UAV's transmitted Radar information began to clear. On the far edge of its view, definitely something, and something large. Distinct, individual surface objects began to resolve.
"UAV2 is being illuminated. Multiple sources."
"Have it determine beam origins."
"Surface and aerial."
Captain Scutarius only cared about the surface sources. Surface sources presumably meant surface ships.
"UAV2 has a missile closing on it. Air launched."
"Do we have the location of those surface ships."
"...Yes."
"Send that information to all our ships, with the following message: Fire on Command. Set Primary Target to largest ship in the group. Relay the target area to the Tokians." If assumptions were correct, one of the Lovelians' battleships would be in that group.
Lt Valeria, who had taken position at Fire Control, stated. "Tube doors open. Target parameters set. Ready to fire."
"All ships state: Ready to Fire."
"Signal all ships to fire their missiles. Valeria, fire our missiles. Send to the Tokians: please launch missiles now."
"Aye, sir."
"Aye, sir." Lt Valeria said. After a moment of silence, she began calling them out.
"01-A, Firing."
"02-A, Firing."
"13-A, Firing."
"14-A, Firing."
"15-A, Firing."
"16-A, Firing."
"17-A, Firing."
"18-A, Firing."
"13-B, Firing."
"14-B, Firing."
"15-B, Firing."
"16-B, Firing."
A dull sound marked the lift off of each missile, with a moment of silence as the missile cleared the ship and roboteched into its cruising trajectory, before the launching of the next missile.
Radar confirmed that the MenippÄ“, KymothoÄ“, and DÅtÅ had launched simultaneously with the HalimÄ“dÄ“. Radar then confirmed that the Tokian missiles had also fired. Timing was perfect. Everything was converging on the single target area at roughly the exact same time. Captain Scutarius lifted his tea cup off of its saucer and sipped at it. Perfect, he noted. Just the right temperature.
MenippÄ“, KymothoÄ“, DÅtÅ, and HalimÄ“dÄ“ reorganize their formation to provide better cross cover.
Location of one of Lovely's columns of ships northeast of Antican group, determined.
Halimēdē launches 12 Javelin Surface-to-Surface Missiles. Primary Target: HMLS Hood. Secondary Targets: HMLS Tovey, HMLS Triton.
DÅtÅ launches 12 Javelin Surface-to-Surface Missiles. Primary Target: HMLS Hood. Secondary Targets: HMLS Tovey, HMLS Triton.
Menippē launches 12 Javelin Surface-to-Surface Missiles. Primary Target: HMLS Hood. Secondary Targets: HMLS Tovey, HMLS Triton.
Kymothoē launches 12 Javelin Surface-to-Surface Missiles. Primary Target: HMLS Hood. Secondary Targets: HMLS Tovey, HMLS Triton.
Note: Antican Missile Launch in synchronization with Tokian Missile Launch (see Prodigy's post when he posts it).

OOC:
I expect Prodigy to post what he was planning on posting after this post as Chrim has stated that he will be firing missiles at me.
I have bad news for you Chrim as unfortunately I never did split my fleet up. I made quite sure that I didn't say I did but merely said two columns (which is what we did when I attacked you the first time when you still had the Enyo). My fleet is still one whole fleet in the same way it was when I attacked you in the open seas and I was originally going to come down the middle but the torpedo mine things you laid put paid to that plan. I changed course to go in a south westerly direction and come at you from the West which I'm promptly now going to do. Sorry for being fiendish in this. Vilhelm has previously been notified of all this and I did offer you the choice of what I had done in my cruise missile attack also.
My post
The INS Radio News was proving unusually helpful in its reporting of the war, Hastings thought. They had just indicated from reliable sources that the Babkhan Mercenaries were near ready to aid the relief of Airosamente. Good news for Lovely and Khan, not so good news for the besiegers.
The naval ratings who manned the Sea IVIS system were getting nervous as the inevitable clash of fleets occured. This time they knew the Anticans would be far more wary and despite the numerical advantage Lovely had, the Anticans were not going to be caught with their pants down again and neither were the Novatainians and their allies. Or so conventional wisdom told them. Hastings himself was nervous. He was risking the pride of Lovely's fleet in this action and as ever there was no guarantee of success. He would have given a rousing speech to the fleet but thought it better not to. Instead he ordered Spexico to hoist a signal to the entire fleet which read "Oh hear us when we cry to thee for those in peril on the sea." A simple message, not as inspiring as anything Montague would have done nor as effective, but hopefully instilling in the sailors a feeling that it was the Anticans and their allies who would be the ones who would be prayed for. They were going to be the ones in peril.
"1 minute until we reach the suspected radar range." informed the First Lieutenant responsible for the overall performance of Sea IVIS. Hastings nodded in acknowledgement of it before issuing his orders.
"Light up the area." The large screen which Sea IVIS was displayed on suddenly expanded as radar coverage from the fleet increased dramatically, showing up the once hazy contacts that had been the Antican fleet into fully fledged. What Hastings didn't expect to see was what appeared to be a huge streak of missiles heading off to the North East.
"They've fell for it!" shouted an astounded naval rating. Hastings let himself smile before retaining his calm and issuing orders to be sent out.
"Begin the attack. Form into a single column and have the Jon Bond position herself so we're between her and the Anticans. Instruct the CAG to eliminate the fighter screen along with the Tovey and Warspite. Everyone else go for the ships with Harpoons. As soon as range allows it, open up with guns. All ships to increase to maximum fleet speed. Have Captain Vega fire those prepared cruise missiles at the minefield." ordered Hastings before sitting down in his chair to watch the actions take place. There was momentary confusion as HMLS Hood tried to request permission to lead the attack which was swiftly dismissed by Hastings via Sea IVIS as Tovey assumed the lead. They were going to move across the Antican fleet at an acute angle of around 77 degrees which would hopefully stop any attempts at the Anticans to manouevre away.
The greatest naval battle since Impregnable Bay and arguably the Kayerno Seas was about to take place.
Summary:
2 S-ACMs full of sub munitions fired at minefield, designed to explode so the submunitions are spread over an area of roughly a square kilometre. The impact of the submunitions will hopefully knock out any of the rocket torpedo mines. If not, the huge noise that it will create will hopefully trigger them off to fire harmlessly without targets.
The Carrier Air Group, consisting of 8 JSF fighters, closes distance and assisted by the guidance of a Hawkeye AWACs fires off all their missiles at the Antican Fleet and Air power. Their armament consists of 4 MBDA Meteor Missiles, 2 AIM 132 ASRAAM missiles and 2 ALARM Anti Radiation missiles. The Meteor's will be fired first at maximum range, then the ASRAAMs and the ALARMS when in range. Half the ALARMs are in loiter mode.
Chrim's 11 fighters are located and fired upon by HMLS Tovey and HMLS Warspite using Aster 30 Missiles. Each ship fires a missile for each aircraft.
HMLS Spexico fires off 5 Harpoons at Menippē
HMLS Hood fires off 5 Harpoons at Kymothoē
HMLS Triton fires off 15 Harpoons at DÅtÅ
HMLS Trident fires off 15 Harpoons at Halimēdē
The Lovely fleet column is laid out in the following order from Vanguard to Rear:
Tovey, Trident, Hood, Warspite, Spexico, Triton.
The ASW Helicopters are aboard their ships on high alert.

OOC: Sorry seems to be the last thing you are. Thing is... this produces a bit of a logical problem, doesn't it. If you're not there, then the missiles wouldn't have been fired.
I'm sick and tired of this "and moved to a secret location" crap. I remember when people would state where they went so that there wasn't confusion and when people wrote posts, there wouldn't be back and forth about "oh, I'm not there" or "LoL, u mist me!11"
Very well, then...
48 cruise missiles redirected in flight to new target positions.
I'm about to spend the next 6 or so hours getting ready and going to university, so the rest of my post will have to come later.

Longbow: No. That amount for the first aerial attack when I never responded within the 24 hours and therefore I auto-lose. My response to your second is to send out the Batavian fighters again. Cautiously, because I assume you've got something up your sleeve this time, but they're still coming. According to my tactical advisor (otherwise known as Montague) they approach from above, and if there are no obvious fighters or other dangers in the area, they attack the bombers and then once again try to make it to Batavian held territory before any fighters can be sent to reinforce the bombers.
Because I know there are a few stealth fighters in the area, I'm not really going to trust radar. Fighter pilots are encouraged to make a visual check before committing to anything, and to be out of there after hitting a few bombers (the aim is deterrence, not complete annhilation, although we wouldn't mind shooting down a few). Nothing fancy, and everyone is instructed to be extremely prepared in case stealth fighters do show up (or in case normal fighters show up, but in that case we assume we'd have enough warning to not be caught unaware). If there's any sign of stealth fighters, Batavian fighters retreat and return immediately to Batavian held territory, unless the stealth fighters are few enough in number that they think they can destroy them (I'd say < 3). If there's any sign of normal fighters, we engage if we' outnumber than they are and otherwise retreat. We are also coordinating with the Batavian/Lovely fleets in the nearby waters and using their radar/spotting capability. Again, we expect a trap, but aren't going to leave more soldiers to die if we can help it.
The Batavians aren't making it easy to figure out exactly how many fighters I have exactly, but I think seven. Two of Jonas', and five of Jeroen's. If it matters quite a bit, I can get a more precise force breakdown from them.
