Micrasian Meteorological Agency
Ever since Amokolia has held land on Micras, I've always wanted to know what the weather was and how it would affect daily life on Micras. I've been thinking and I've come up with the following idea for how to do weather on Micras:
1) Relate a certain continents weather (i.e. Benacia) to a continent on Earth at about the same latitude and size (North America)
2) Make a weekly continental (or national) forcast for interested nations.
For Example:
Benacian Forcast for November 14th 2009:
A high pressure system on the Batavian coast has brought along wet and cold storms, dumping slush and snow along with it.
(Same as US Northwest)
In Southeastern and Central Benacia a Low Pressure system is making it snow for the first time this year in the Benacian Mountains and Highlands. Along the Coast and in the Automaticas, the system has brought light rain and mild temperatures
(Same as Central US and Great Lakes)
In Coastal Shireroth a hurricane has wreaked havoc on the coastal villages
(Same as US Northeast)
I used intellicast.com for the predictions. They have a world map and continental maps.
I could also make city forcasts for interested people.

Yeah, This was originally one of my jobs
until I realised just how hard it is.
You can never say hurricanes or tornadoes as people will simply say "godmodding"
Weather systems are also notoriously difficult to simulate, hence why they're 50% accuracy at 5 days
It really really depends on the geography of the entire planet, Earth has some unique weather effects due to north america and south america being joined at the hip and hence making a huge north to south landblock for the ocean
And then people try this method and it's like being raped in the face, it is very much unpleasant.

What method would work better without people yelling godmodding?

Ask the met office really really nicely?
Build a quantum computer and solve the standard model of physics then create micras subatomic particle by subatomic particle in a simulation?*
*Of course, you would also need to simulate atos and tarsica, they would have a large effect on the weather, and micrometeorites have an effect, and supernovae, basically you need to simulate a micras universe.

Re: Micrasian Meteorological Agency
We could put together lists specific to continents which take into consideration climate and geographical features, and then by using a random generator have it pull one item from the list weekly.
I originally thought to use that for the whole planet, but it wouldn't work. On a continental scale it would, however, work.

The Empire would just like to say that it would help participate in any such agency or work. We have put a total of 6 weather satellites into orbit, 2 in molniya orbit and 4 in microsynchronous orbits.
Re: Micrasian Meteorological Agency
Ryan's idea would work well, I think.
Maybe we could get an MMA board?

A forum would be helpful to work on stuff.
I've been wanting to do something like this for a while.

All it would take (which is what I assume Scott's fantastic weather page is doing) is to link the forecast of Micran cities with cities on earth of an equal imagined climate. For example, Tsofnhafn in Northern Ashkenatza is supposed to be bitterly cold and frankly rather depressing, like Magadan or Reykjavik.
So I suppose some way should be conjured up to link live weather forecasts for such cities to micronational city names.

Re: Micrasian Meteorological Agency
It would take way more than that for anything approaching feasable. but everyone's happy with the face rape that is linking to random earth cities, so continue.
Re: Micrasian Meteorological Agency
It would be more "realistic" for continent-specific lists sifted by a randomizer. Nature is not so much chance as it is interrelationships, but it's a start, and could be refined more over time.
So it would be less like face rape and more like date rape.
