Good work, a useful resource. The old Resource Map might also assist in further refinement of this climate map (utilizing the crop types specified for certain landmasses, for example, to help guide things)?

Thanks, glad you like it. I do think that this kind of work could be used to increase the quality of the resource map. It could help us realistically figure out where certain crops can grow, for instance, or where livestock can be raised, or where minerals such as salt can be found.

In addition to helping clarify resources, this kind of map could also have other economic implications. In Passio-Corum, for example, I might use climate data to better regulate my production capacities. I could make it so that resources in temperate regions have relatively high production capacities, and low production costs, while tropical or polar regions have relatively low production capacities, and high production costs. This could reflect the general ease of access of any given resource.

Military is another area where climate data could play an important role. I'm thinking of a situation in which climate impacts unit movement speed, and recovery time. Units might move more slowly in tropical or polar regions than in temperate or cold regions, and it might also take longer to recover in those regions. This could add a really interesting element to recwars.

On another note, I've updated the map in the time since you replied. I've refined my technique, and I am confident that the current map is largely accurate. It isn't necessarily very pretty, but it is correct.

Edit: Here is the raw data map. This information, when laid over the world map, gives you an overview of where I located currents.

Myself and Shyriath started work on a detailed climate map some time ago, using Gloria Mundi as the basis, although we lost steam after a while and never picked it up again.

The only downside of officiating a map like this is it sets in stone - to some extent - what people claim is their climate. For example, look at Vyktory or Mercury, which are essentially Antarctic.

I think that it's good to have this information available for those who want to use it. If my nation can benefit from this work, then others can as well. But they shouldn't be required to use it if they don't want to.

The old Resource Map is exactly that: old.

I've edited my original map again. Went back and re-did the currents to make them more consistent. For those who are interested, here are the data maps for my latest effort The first strictly represents the currents, while the latter represents the currents' impact on climate patterns. Both of these maps can be laid over the official map for really interesting results. You can also use these maps to gain an idea of my general thought process for this project.

Updated again to increase the level of detail. The map now shows around seventeen distinct climates, rather than the ten or eleven which were shown before.

Looking better, though I would say that this reflects currents but doesn't show the impact of topography on those climates. Cibola, for instance, has a varied terrain rising to some very high elevations. Likewise, Central Apollonia is mostly high plateau and steppe. The most evident example is probably on Eura, where the bands almost run vertical, which may be reflective of currents but not the underlying terrain.

Overall a good start, but the topographical influences need to somehow be incorporated; perhaps as an additional layer.

I agree. The closer I got to the center of the continents, the more I struggled for accuracy. I actually find the most glaring errors in this regard around Mt.Lacera in Central Keltia, and in Central Appolonia in general. Cibola and Tapfer also present similar types of challenges. Here are my currents laid over the physical map, just for reference.
