DES expansion
Name & Title: Barnaby
E-Mail/Contact: Instagram
Nation: Senya
Request:
Notes: Part Two of expanding up the river, as part of our ongoing project to expand up the banks of the river. Wanted to do this incrementally rather than all at once to build up the storyline. Of the two new cities, the one to the west of Torlar will be called "Somerleyton", whilst the new city to the east of Torlkar will be called "Gertsa" (after the old Gerenian city of the same name).

Re: DES expansion
So not after the Chas & Dave song?
Re: DES expansion
Felt it more reasonable to post this response here rather than on voting thread
As our forum on the Bastion only opened three weeks ago, I felt it was right that I showed development and work on this expansion, rather than just gobble up land with little backstory first.
In regards to that land being claimable, whilst yes it is, most current members of the community are aware of our plans, no country is in a reasonable position to claim it as contigual land (aside from Jingdao, who as leader, you have shown support for our expansion in that area), and we could always talk to any new nation who would think of claiming land there. So I don't think it's too pressing. Hopefully by the end of April the expansion will be complete anyway.
I have shown scepticism about giant land grabs before (I was very hesitant about Floria's recent expansion, for instance), and I think that rather than criticise others, it would make more sense for me to show an example on how I think nations should go about expanding. Whilst there are plenty of nations who do backstory and claim more reasonable amounts of new land when they expand, I think we have seen lately several examples of extremely large land grabs with little publicised backstory workings other than "we want this so we can do so and so".
Whilst I agree with Raz's sentiment that we perhaps should have expanded all at once, I have spoken with other council members, who whilst have all been supportive of Senyan expansion, have had reservations about the extent of countable activity that would have allowed Senya to expand on the entire land we desire.Rasmus wrote: ↑Sat Mar 09, 2019 6:58 pmIt would be very tempting for me to vote against this, not because Senya would not deserve to expand, but because I feel they expand not enough. I have spoken with Barnaby on the subject of Senya's sea access (which seems to be the main reason behind these expansions) in October and in my other role as leader of the Jingdaoese Empire I have since then left ample of room for Senya to expand. Even now with this expansion Senya does not reach the seas and does not make use of the land we vacated. Senya seems to wish to expand only incrementally because it wants to expand on the same pace as the storyline, but in my mind that is not how it works. As long as Senya has not claimed the entire stretch of land they want, it can be claimed by other parties as well and I would be hesitant to make a decision on the claim by another party based on the expectancy of a future Senyan claim... So, while I will vote YAO on this, I do urge Senya to claim the rest of their desired area as fast as possible. Having this area in their color on the claimsmap would not hinder their story line in any way.

Re: DES expansion
I felt the extent of the present claim is about right for Senya's current activity, and would have indulged a little more - but if you understand the risks of incremental expansion and are prepared to take them, it's a perfectly legitimate way to claim.
