Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
Dear MCS, you might have noticed that I have been consolidating my three currently independent nations into one confederation: Gran Verionia. This claim represents this change, as well as a reduction in Benacia and an expansion in Keltia.

Notes: Due to my new laptop being very incompatible with paint and the claimsmap, I had to construct the letters of the placenames by hand ('t was a pain in the arse). I checked for mistakes and I didn't see any, but it's possible I overlooked something.
In addition, I am a little confused about the precedents regarding claim size. I believe this is a relatively modest expansion, considering it includes a reduction. The goal is obviously to also claim the green area north of Passas in the future, I would like the advice of the council if this can already be claimed at this point or needs additional work.
Gracias.

I'm not sure you mean Passas there. Either way, I'd be fine with Kasterburg not losing that chunk on top of the claims above, if that helps...
Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
I mean the green that's in between Passio Corum or whatever the official name of the mint green country is, and the northern part of Gran Verionia.

Thought as much. Passas is specifically the bit of Bassarid land to the north-west of there (where Corcovado borders)
So if you're still wanting to take that bite out of Kasterburg for this, we'll vote...
Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
So could that part above HPI be included in the claim or not?
The Kasterburg reduction is fine with me. I expect the land tonbe filled soon given that it's on a rather popular continent.

For information, that would look like this:

Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
Is the way this nation is hugging the Bassarids intentional?

Bit optimistic, if you ask me, but it's your claim...
Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
Maybe it is... But really, it's just the main way to expand to and connect the lake and the sea.
Well, that's why I ask first. I don't know what the current guidelines are, since this claim is still less pixels than was the claim of Dragonera.

The current guidelines are the same as the old ones; you tell us what you want, we judge it as a collective. I'm happy to give my personal view that it might be a bit large, but I'm also not a bellwether for the entire Council - if you want to go ahead with the larger claim, it may certainly pass, but the decision is yours to make.
I don't understand the relevance of mentioning Dragonera - whataboutism isn't a factor in how I judge claims - but, for what it's worth, this claim would be quite a bit larger than theirs...

Right, I will put this claim to the council and respect its judgement. I would point to the sustained activity in the lands that will constitute Gran Verionia over the last years.Craitman wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:09 pmThe current guidelines are the same as the old ones; you tell us what you want, we judge it as a collective. As for whataboutism, I think precedent is quite crucial for an organisation like the MCS. It's not my intent to say "if they get it then I want it too", but I think its fair to get an impression of what I can claim and what not and how much activity is required to back it up.

Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
I would just for the point of argument that the newly claimed areas are the size of roughly 60% of the Dragonera claim, that is not taking into account the reduction.

Re: Gran Verionia: a consolidation, reduction and expansion
Of course, consistency is a must inasmuch as it can be in what is ultimately a subjective and non-scientific process. I can understand comparisons between nations of similar sizes in that regard, but it's a bit disingenuous to say a claim is smaller than another when it's actually ~6,000 pixels larger (comparing an expansion to a new claim is stupid either way)Jack wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:33 pmAs for whataboutism, I think precedent is quite crucial for an organisation like the MCS. Yes, if you meassure all pixels occupied by Gran Verionia... not if you measure the actual expansion.Craitman wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:52 pmOf course, consistency is a must inasmuch as it can be in what is ultimately a subjective and non-scientific process.
