The latest dispatches from the Kingdom of Barnum.
Border Dispute With Sylvania
His Majesty King Matthew has taken issue with the latest expansion of Sylvania, believing that it infringes on the borders of the Kingdom. The specific land concerned is a small strip of Sylvanian-claimed territory just north of Liburnia (running parallel with the borders of the DAO islands), including the city of Micobad.
The Royal Court has been in contact with Sultan Akbar Cakar of Sylvania, and has seen fit to introduce negotiations on this matter. All of Barnum hopes that these discussions will be fruitful, and lead to a resolution that is fair for both sides.
Barnum Sports News
On the domestic side of things, King Matthew The First has opened play in the Barnum Hockey League (BHL). The new men's ice hockey association is comprised of eight different Barnumian teams, all vying for the ultimate prize: the league championship, and possession of the Barnum Cup.
Here are the results of the most recently played BHL games. Home teams in bold, winners in blue.
Oakdale 1, Cresthaven 0
Barnum City 0, Eagleton 0
Castle Rock 5, Woodlawn 1
Freeport 2, Asheton 1
More games will be played later this week.

Breaking Now:
Talks with Sylvania ongoing, no resolution yet
BARNUM CITY - Top Royal diplomats today engaged in discussions aimed at ending a recent border dispute with Sylvania, Barnum's southern neighbor. At issue is a small strip of Sylvanian-claimed territory just north of Liburnia. His Majesty the King believes this claim to be an infringement on Barnumian sovereignty.
According to various sources, last week's preliminary talks on the dispute reached an impasse. However, a second round of negotiations on the matter has yielded fruitful conversations, and a proposed line of demarcation between the two countries.
In a brief statement, His Majesty expressed his continued hope for a peaceful resolution to the dispute.

Does Barnum even border Sylvania?

Re: News You Can Use
It does, according to the latest claims map.
Re: News You Can Use
It really doesn't though.

Around 100 km between the borders, with Green in between.
Re: News You Can Use
I don't know where you're getting this idea that Sylvania doesn't border Barnum.
Do you see the maroon color there? That's Sylvania, which includes a small strip of land running about parallel with the islands of Liudao (Micobad is the tip of this land).
The southern part of my claim runs to about this little "finger" (for lack of a better term) of land. That's where Micobad and the limit of Sylvania's claim is (see inset). The pink line I have drawn is right at that point.
Somebody's not seeing "the whole picture".

Now this from Barnum Radio.
"An important message for all Barnumians in southern parts of the Kingdom.
His Majesty's Royal diplomatic corps advises those in the southern border area to travel to other regions, if at all possible. The situation in this area is fluid, and changing day to day. Until it can become more stable, Barnumian citizens are asked to keep a close watch on local media reports. We are working towards a resolution to this matter, and hope to have more to report soon.
This is Barnum Radio, Barnum City, Barnum."

Most of us have been staring at that same map for decades, we know what it looks like. There is a strip of about 10 pixels between Barnum and Sylvania, which means about 120 kilometers in real life. If the claim overlapped, there would be a border dispute (the general meaning of the word...), but here that really isn't the case. Just put the maps over each other and you'll see.

Re: News You Can Use
Barnum isn't even on the map yet, Sylvania is. A word of advice, focus on developing your nation instead of stirring up a conflict over a non-existing shared border.
Re: News You Can Use
As you can clearly see here, there is no overlap, there is in fact a huge gap of about 120 kilometers between Barnum's reservation and Sylvania.

Re: News You Can Use
While the rival claims won't come into direct contact, the caution of Barnum might be considered warranted in view of the recent history of Sylvania. A small token deployment and a note of concern is a minimal investment as an insurance against the risk of becoming the next resurrected vassal state in the Sultan's rapidly growing collection.
That said, as noted elsewhere, there is nothing that the MCS can do with regards to non-adjoining claims that one member state happens to dislike. That sort of politicking belongs at the MTO.

All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.

Out of Character: There are better ways to engage in intrigue with us than this. If you're serious about this conflict, then you're opening a can of worms.

Sanama has decided to deploy a peacekeeping force to the Green Strip, the area between Sylvania and the Barnum claim.

Re: News You Can Use
His Majesty the Sultan lets know there is no need for a peace corps between the future Kingdom of Barnum and the Ultimate Sultanate of Sylvania. We do not need a conflict, we are not threatening our future neighbour to the north; on the contrary, we welcome it.
We had already started diplomatic talks, but they are now understood to be negotiations. The Sultan sincerely asks: what is to be negotiated?
If peace is broken by aggression on the part of the future kingdom, the Sultanate will defend its sovereignty. We have told the future northern neighbour that a military conflict is not advisable for a kingdom that is not even on the map yet.
We call on the Democratic Federation of Sanama to abandon its plan for a peace corps and, as far as it has already been implemented, to withdraw. There is no reason for conflict, nor for a peace corps.
Signed,
Rajesh Avchat
Grand Vizier of Sylvania
