Hurmu - New Batavia treaty finally ratified
LUCERNE, TODAY: The friendship treaty between Hurmu and New Batavia has finally been ratified. The ratification process took a long time in New Batavia, since the President refused to sign the treaty into law.
The President argued that the treaty was unconstitutional, because it was not in Dutch language. The constitution provides for the Supreme Court to decide on the constitutionality in such case. The Court followed President Saladin's arguments. The treaty had to be translated into Dutch and re-approved by the Majlis-ash-Shoera. Today, the Dutch version of the treaty was signed into law.
This treaty is the very first treaty since the restoration of the Republic. A treaty with Hazar is currently being debated and one with Batavia is being negotiated.
