New guy
Hello everyone my name is Wilhelm von Hartmann-Peters. I recently made a land claim for the NAC. It was approved and now my new strictly Micras micronation is in Keltia. Things didn't go as I had hoped and so the nation I hoped to bring with me did entirely follow. So I created the Kingdom of Vikland. I'm just trying to settle in here and get my barrings on how this community operates. Contact me any time about anything and I'll get back to you asap.

Re: New guy
Welcome to the Hub.mn community and welcome to Micras!
We're not hugely active as of late, but don't let that discourage you, there's bound to be a lot going-on in individual nations! If there's anything you'd like to know about what happens here or what you can get involved with, just ask and we'll try and help you out the best we can

Re: New guy
Thank you for the warm reseption. And Mr. Fish, I would like it if you didn't point to my Microwiki past. The primary reason I left it was to try and start over micronationally. I'm tired of New Europe's reputation poisoning what I have to offer and that the information on it, regretably accurate as I wrote them, is not not the person that came to this wiki. Wilhelm the "racist of Microwiki", left the community a year ago and won't be comming back. But if others follow the links and read up on me I only ask that you do not let it influence your opinion of me if and when I may ask to open relations with your nations or for help.
So here are my general questions:
1) Is there some type of Micro UN here? What's it called? How do I join it?
2) What are some of the general community problems? What are the options to improve them?
3) Who is considered "the top dog" by the general community?
4) Comparrisons between the Micras world & Microwiki?
Thank you in advance for answering any of these questions to the best of your ability.

Re: New guy
The closest thing we have to a UN type organization is the Small Commonwealth (although hopefully it will soon be renamed as the Yieldlessly Associated Micronational Organization in order to remove lingering stigma against it being a vehicle for Shireroth-worship, which it is not). It only has about half a dozen active members currently, but hopefully with looming reforms it can be reshaped into a truly representative organization for the sector.

Our community problems usually boil down to there just not being enough of us, and every 1-2 years we think the hobby will die and our nations will rot in the dust of cyber space for eternity with no one to weep for the tons of ink spilled on histories and cultures... but here we are, most of us averaging 5 years in the hobby, several pushing the 10 year mark... but we've lost many good people along the way, and our net gain of people is probably negative, but we still press on.
As for comparisons... the main thing I can say is that here, imagination is encouraged and indeed, the expected norm. Fantasy, magic, space travel, are all acceptable here (generally). Since we are not limited to Earth-bound claims, anything goes here -- depending on what nation you are in, we do have more serious or "grounded" nations here too.

Re: New guy
I think Nathan's answered the others well enough, so I'll just focus on this one:
It depends whether you mean individual contributors or nations as a whole. If we looked at individuals, then I wouldn't say anyone's "top dog". Granted, people will hold important positions in organisations and nations, contribute a lot more than your average micronationalist, or have been involved in the hobby longer than others, but I wouldn't say one person (or a select few people) are considered "top dog". As for separate nations, it'd be stupid to overlook those hosted on the Bastion Union forum; being some of the oldest and most popular/active in the sector. A couple of other major ones are Ashkenatza and Stormark, and there's a few others who are growing and developing quite well lately toowmp219 wrote:3) Who is considered "the top dog" by the general community?

Re: New guy
Not remotely true for the whole sector at all. The majority of nations don't think they're in some kind of LOTR/Star Wars type universe and behave as realistic simulations.Nathan wrote:As for comparisons... the main thing I can say is that here, imagination is encouraged and indeed, the expected norm. Re: New guy
Unlike other sectors though, the majority of us wont balk at the idea of interacting with a nation that has fantasy or sci-fi elements.Guido Zambelis wrote:Not remotely true for the whole sector at all. All your questions have been pretty well answered, but I have to reiterate that activity is our biggest weakness. Don't freak out if nothing happens for a while, it's probably because of the school year (exams) and people will start talking again eventually. Not always about something new, but most of us check in now and again no matter how dead it seems.

Re: New guy
Some of you (and you know who you are, but to protect honor, I shall not name names) are just downright insufferable sometimes. Let's not bog this thread down with such a petty and jaded argument. It is safe to say that the world of Micras allows you to do what you want to do with your realm. Should you wish to create an accurate simulation or something more on the wild side, you're free to do so. That being said, not all nations here really go for that. It is worth saying that both ends of the spectrum have nations which are wildly successful and enjoy a long history.
So, whatever you choose to do, be it realism, magic or any combination or gradation there of, you'll be met with a firm handshake from almost everyone. Those who don't accept your nation or its ways you simply ignore and go about your way - nothing to it.
The next person who says something snide and asinine in an attempt to white knight realism OR fantasy should be publicly caned. It is a stupid argument and this is a welcoming thread, not a canon debate thread.

Re: New guy
I suppose in the context of an outsider what Nathan wrote might make sense; the way I first read it was slightly different.
I don't want to disappoint those who were digging in for an argument though, so: I think I missed your appointment as the voice of truth and reason
