Maps, Maps, Maps
The discussion in the SCUE about MITO reminded me to finish the resource maps and such I had running. Since I think they look pretty neat, and for the sake of sharing (because we don't have much else to do) I thought you'd all like to take a look at the maps I've made up.
I have no idea how to turn them from pixelated MSPaint style maps into the fancy 'special maps' some people throw around, otherwise I would have by now.
The Current Political Map (well, as long as it's approved. Everything else uses this regional structure, with the expectation that the city and region relocation will be approved.)
The Physical Map
The Uantir Rail System (Dark blue is both commuter and freight, the lighter lines are express freight lines used only for the expeditious transport of goods.)
Our Agricultural Resources
Our Hyrdro-Electric Fields, Copper Deposits and Fishing Coast
Our Wool Production, Tin Deposits, Salt Mines and Silk Groves

Very good indeed Ari , it's good to see people making good use of their land and it's interesting to see the different land usage areas. I made a couple of maps for the main territory of Castrum Nazarene, as seen below, but haven't got around to doing any land-usage maps. The below only shows settlements with a population exceeding one hundred, of which there aren't many .

Al's are much prettier, so if he's got better advice listen to him, but I use photoshop. If it wasn't for the baby making noise and wanting attention, it would have taken me 12 - 15 minutes. Just kill the color with the background eraser tool, then you've got a transparent outline to place on the physical map.
Hope that helps, I can e-mail you the photoshop file with the layers (I'm a layer lover) if you have photoshop and are interested.
I like the physical map a lot. If you notice, I pointedly used both the resource spreads and the physical map to help guide the territorial boundaries in Uantir.

Similar to the above, I did a detailed map of the Fordneys for Normark. But instead of natural resources, I included physical features.

Shirekeep has a map, based upon an older version from years ago. As I'm currently in charge of the capital, you can expect frequent changes (as have happened already). The city grows, the city also sometimes loses an important building (okay, sometimes a whole district...).

If you want more simple ones, I can help. As you can see, people like Alfred and Jonas can do much more fancy business, and if they start helping you I want to join the class!

Thank you. It's made with Photoshop (and using some of its marvelous effects, simply done with double-clicking on the layer).King Ailin of Uantir wrote:Hot stuff Jonas! What program do you use?

Re: Maps, Maps, Maps
Perhaps you could share which layer effects or masks you used. I live by tutorials, I don't have the eye for color and saturation and effects that most do. I simply copy cat a process that I've seen looks right.
