Nothing can get through the Monovia blockade. The territory has been in the control of Alexandria for well over a year.
Oh this is all making me LOL. I remember when A1 News Service returned and it was hoped for a rebirth of good micronational journalism with the Coprieta Standard. I don't think they reckoned on our own Kelvin MacKenzie taking up the reins of the Batavian Post.

I had to look Kelvin up the previous time and read this: "He is best known for being editor of The Sun newspaper between 1981 and 1994, an era in which the paper was established as Britain's best selling newspaper." So again, thank you for your compliment.Lord_Montague wrote:Oh this is all making me LOL. The forces of the Ocian Federation have always been in full control of our territory. Your so called blockade has had no effect on everyday life for our citizens. I will warn your master the emperor however that you should use discretion when taking hostile moves towards the Ocian Federation. We reserve the right to carry out any conventional or unconventional retribution against any hostile moves that are taken against us. Our comrades-in-arms throughout the Raspur Pact are in solidarity with us.Lord_Montague wrote:From a worthy opponent. I look forward to it!Ardashir Khan wrote:Ah good. From the same article: "It was MacKenzie who cemented the paper's image as a right-wing tabloid, not only greatly increasing its circulation and dramatically heightening its profile, but also making it infamous in the eyes of the British public for its attacks on left-wing political figures and movements and its sensationalist front-page celebrity "exposes", which frequently turned out to be misleading or outright false, with MacKenzie presiding over many of the biggest controversies in the paper's history. Critics accused the paper of exaggerating or even inventing news stories under MacKenzie (on some occasions this was proven to be the case) and of severely dumbing down public discourse. The paper was frequently accused of promoting jingoism, racism, homophobia, and intolerance."Erasmus wrote:I had to look Kelvin up the previous time and read this: "He is best known for being editor of The Sun newspaper between 1981 and 1994, an era in which the paper was established as Britain's best selling newspaper." Re: Batavian Post
So what Jacques is saying is that Monty calls Erasmus indirectly a homophobe and racist? That sounds like serious slander to me.

Re: Batavian Post
No Jonas, I don't think that's what he is saying. The quote says the paper was "accused" of such things, weasel words. He probably wants to imply the Batavian Post would mislead it's readers. Which is of course utter nonsense, we offer colorful language of course but we also always offer the undiluted truth. It's our reputation and ability to deliver the truth that has enabled us to get, for example, a scoop on the Ocian mobilization. I'm sure the military commanders of Alexandria read it in the Batavian Post.
I think it's just elitism, the Batavian Post is the paper of the people, not the Alexandrian aristocracy.

Also, I would be very very careful about using the term The Truth around me in the context of comparisons to Kelvin MacKenzie.

Re: Batavian Post
Well, it's like Fox News claiming to be "fair and balanced." Sure you report the words of the facts, but not the intent of the facts. For example, let's take "Alexandria is threatening Treisenberg." I point out that a war would make things worse for Treisenberg, not Alexandria or Jingdao. The act of war itself. However, like many less-than-reputable sources, you take that out of context and make it such that Alexandria is threatening Treisenberg with war and destruction. This is what sources like Fox News or The Sun (the paper of Kelvin MacKenzie) love to do, they'll take a reasonable comment and turn it into something completely different. And it's generally for an agenda. A big way you can tell this is when a defense of a publication uses terms like "undiluted truth," "elitism," "the paper of the people," which are not factual accusations, but ad hominem attacks. That's something I hear all the time from newspapers and networks who want to divert attention towards someone else instead of facing facts.
I mean, that's freedom of the press, you can claim the truth to be whatever you want it to be. But there is a difference between what you think is the truth and what is actually the truth in context, which is what Jean is pointing to. And, ironically, that's actually part of what the exchange between Max and I was about. But, all politics is local, I suppose.

Well, Jacques made an eloquent case but it is actually rather more simple than that. This is why:

In Victory; Unbearable.
