University of Directus Releases Historic Study
It brings me profound fulfillment to announce that the University of Directus has released a landmark study called Index of Perceptions of Government. This report will be the founding document for the Micras Institute for Correct Governance operated by the M. Kovac faculty of Political Science and Strategic Studies at the University of Directus.
The study used several methods to asses the transparency, level of democracy and corruption levels in many nations across micras.
We owe a great deal of thanks to our academic partners in Babkha, Batavia, Normark among others for peer reviewing this scholarly study.
We hope that this report will inspire nations to change and embrace more transparent democratic systems.
Future publications and further reading on this topic can be found at the University of Directus.
Re: University of Directus Releases Historic Study
To all the intermicronational comunity:
I come here because I feel that the document presented by the University of Directus is showing some technical mistakes and methodological horrors (not errors) that had come to my attention:
First of all, I'd like to know how was the investigation conducted, and how did the professionals gather the information. There had not been any official appointment between our nations to conduct this investigation. This means that the results are just loosen ties from an ideological point of view.
I would like to see how did Mr. Kovac came to this conclussion, methodologically speaking, since there are not enough cases to make it a probabilistical measure -you need at least 44 cases to make it statistically valid, and there are little nations with that number of active citizens-. The cathegories used are relatively vague, so it would be a good thing to strenghten the measures in that of theorical and methodological knowledge in order to release a document where you call other nations "corrupt" or "unclean".
This said, I believe, being a Sociologist as I am, this means this is nothing but another piece of propaganda. Beware of those who try to cover their own fails with a cientifical point of view...

It's only purpose is to rile people. In that sense it is a very entertaining read.

Very nice read. I would also like to see how the investigation was conducted, how information was gathered, and more specifics on the standards by which nations were judged. Rest assured, the Imperial University would like to understand this methodology for future research.
Now for a few fun points.
One interesting thing I noticed, by the way: South Batavians have "the right to give tribute to the empire." If Alexandria allows its citizens to willingly tithe to the Emperor or the Church, will the University of Directus let us be less corrupt?
Also, if the Emperor lays down a book of sayings that all government employees are "obliged" to work by under penalty of "rehabilitation and re-education," are we on the road to better governance?
And finally, may I say that I approve of an statistical academic study which determines that a specific ruler is the most "down to earth" around.
Yes, it is a very entertaining read, and fairly well-written, if I may say so.

Yes, all very amusing.
There, is, of course, the age old question "How are we fascist" to which I've never got a serious attempt of a reply by Kovacs.
Yawn.
Ocia just exists to troll. If Matt is for real, I'm concerned for him.

Yes the days of your green thunder 'political rallies' with nazi like occult symbols that you designed makes you the furthest thing from fascist around.
Re: University of Directus Releases Historic Study
...Again, I should like to quote something you said on Fri Aug 12, 2011 8:11 pm - "Is it now insane for a micronation to have a theme and some quirky hilarious propaganda rants?"
...in any case, the Green Thunder legion were pretty well crushed aned no party for ages has had anything to do with them - the current parties in Ashkenatza are Social Democratic and Social Conservative. It's irrelevant in any case, because you started calling us 'Facsist' - to my mind - before the GTL.
...Additionally, you do realise that your new best friends are quite obviously - and explictly - basing a great deal of their political culture on eugenics, palingenetic ultranationalism, social darwinism and totalitarianism? Ideologically, if any nation on Micras is closer to the academic definition of Fascism, it's Babkha. I don't say that as a perjorative, or as a slander, just as an ideological observation - Ardy simulates it very well and it's an interesting driving force in the simulation. Unlike you, I try not to judge people ideologically in real life from what they do in micronationalism.

Very interesting read. Love it, and very inspiring. I hope this will be good for nations. I am planning in a thing like this for the MicroWiki sector, and MicroWikia sector, so this is a good model.

at the very least you can give us credit for the cultural contribution to Micras, not many other people in the community go to great lengths to publish an entertaining read. I for one love it when someone posts the maps, publications and graphics from their nation no matter how biased and unbiased it is.

Entertaining . I would enjoy seeing a case study for Gralus.

Re: University of Directus Releases Historic Study
This is hilarious. Being considered corrupt by Kovac is a strong indication a nation's probably on the right track. Making the top 20 is a badge of honor.
Now I am going to have to assume, on my own, what the critiques of Uantir are since we did not warrant a personal case study. I have some guesses based mostly off of the laughably named 'Institute for Correct Governance.' The paper's introduction and that rediculous name lead me to understand that Kovac holds the erronious assumption that democracy is the one true form of government that is just and good. In the end this boils down to political evangelicalism, which I want no part in.
But I also unabashedly vain and preen when I'm talked about, so I can't help but be curious for a little more detail on evil old Uantir.

OOC: I'm just sitting here and wondering if these are in-sim rants or for real
This document is a product of Ocian propaganda, as is the most of information that goes public from Ocia. A part of Ocian... Theme. Follow what is happening in the UN and you'll see it's quite a similar situation to Russians vs. The World
