I might also recommend using Minecraft to build scenes (if not individual elements like a flag or a person) in a matter of hours. That's what some people did over on Bastion.

I've considered using minecraft, but last I checked it only runs in windows. I don't want to have to run an emulator for it.

Overall I'm pretty happy with Blender for scenes involving buildings, humans, or landscapes involving certain types of plants or animals. For strict landscape scenes for which I don't need any special models, I use Leadwerks or Axis Game Factory. I wanted to get into Unity after looking at some of the work that Jonas has done, but still haven't bothered with it.

Admirable work! An interesting shape to the ambassador's chair.

Minecraft is pretty good as a visual art/architecture medium, but my attempt to make a gigantic statue went a bit crazy...

Craziness was the best thing about Minecraft Mykras...

That is considerably crazier than anything I've done thus far. Right now I'm thinking that when it comes to projects of that scale, something like the videogame Terraria might be a good option as well. It isn't in 3d, but it's along the same lines.

My only experience is in maya but certainly blender must have a feature which locks the location of vertices, edges, and faces. Looks good by the way.

Thanks! I agree, my next step is to figure out how to lock the feet in place.

Edit: Turns out that anchoring objects is easier than I thought. It was just a matter of using the proper rigging. The link above now leads to an updated, cleaner video.

Having to reposition the body every frame must have sucked.

I didn't actually have to do any repositioning. I'm kind of surprised, since most of the tutorials I looked at suggested I would need to.

A screenshot for the game I'm currently working on, about the most famous of all the Haifan pirates.
