Fnords 2018 nominations
Dear all
It's time for the festive season again where we award our fellow micronationalists!
Last years categories were:
most promising new micronationalist of the year
most promising new micronation of the year
journalism
economics
'Tis but a Fleshwound
leadership
Cultural Development
literature
history
best new idea
art
overall achievement
I ask for nominations for members in the committee (as usual I will chair but not vote in the committee), nominations of categories, and nominations of persons and works in categories along with a motivation or proof!

Re: Fnords 2018 nominations
- My 'Tis but a Fleshwound Nomination:THE 2018 MICRAS GAMES Finishing in 2020.
- Award for Sports Nomination: Barnaby for his FMF Elo rankings coming soon. Great to finally see official rankings.
- Award for Most Promising New Micronation: Most new micronations were fuckwits and died in weeks but I nominate The Holy Ralgon Empire. They were a serious micronation on microwiki and I believe they will thrive on Micras also.

Re: Fnords 2018 nominations
My personal nominations for some awards. Those missing are a combination of ones I can't decide on, and ones I don't think deserve awarding this year.
New micronation - Çeridgul. To avoid being bitten Interesting new concept and breathing a bit of extra life into Eura for the first time in a while.
Economics - Bijaro del Aghir. I can't for the life of me begin to understand it all, but he does and it works very well.
Leadership - Gustaaf Vermeylen. Brought Batavia back from extinction and is taking it from strength to strength.
Cultural development - Edgard Carrillo for Caputian cinema. Granted this was earlier in the year, but it was a great new facet to in-sim development that caught-on very quickly with a fair few others.
Literature - Krasniy Yastreb. More Tales from Kalgachia.
Best new idea - Micras Games. While I can't in good faith put it forward for the sport award (for which I second Barnaby's nomination*) due to its ultimate dishevelled organisation (hence why I second its flesh wound nomination too**), the Games were a great initial concept that we'd not truly had before.
Overall achievement - Joe Foxon. Someone who's quietly been with us for almost a decade one way or another now and does a really good job of keeping the community's two biggest organisations running smoothly and in check without any controversy.
I'll also put my name down as first-reserve for judging - if you literally can't find anyone else to do it, I'm good to go again
* Barnaby is currently undertaking an entire reboot of the rankings system used by the FMF which aligns to the real-life Elo ratings calculations, meaning he is working his way through every international match ever played on Micras (since December 2006) to calculate points tallies for all 300+ all-time FMF members.
** As good an idea the Games are, everyone involved in its running has had personal responsibilities (both expected and unexpected) get in the way of doing what they needed to do, yet we're persevering and it will be finished eventually!

I'd like to nominate Gerenia for a new category for nations that died that we wish didn't.
Also, Blepian Discord for Flesh Wound

Probably not even halfway through yet and I've had to calculate over 1300 matches!Craitman wrote: ↑Tue Dec 11, 2018 9:12 pmBarnaby is currently undertaking an entire reboot of the rankings system used by the FMF which aligns to the real-life Elo ratings calculations, meaning he is working his way through every international match ever played on Micras (since December 2006) to calculate points tallies for all 300+ all-time FMF members.
Re: Fnords 2018 nominations
I nominate the Holy Ralgon Empire for Most Promising New Micronation and its founder, known on the wiki and Discord as Cosmic Fury, for Most Promising New Micronationalist. I cannot of course speak on others’ behalf, but he has stunned me by coming out of the gate with a depth of worldbuilding that one would usually only expect from established nations — and Ralgon isn’t even formally on the map yet!
For the “‘tis but aflesh noodle wound” award, I nominate James I of Vyktory, due to his successful return from an absence put upon him by unfortunate real-life matters.
For the leadership award, I nominate Gustaaf Vermeylen, who has so far successfully raised Batavia from the dead.
For the cultural development award, I nominate Edgard Carrillo, on behalf of the MicrasWiki article “Cinema of Caputia”, which is to be commended for extending micronational culture both in Caputia and a few other nations that followed on the idea in a direction not seen before.
For the literature award, I nominate Shyriath Farstrider and Krasniy Yastreb on behalf of their ongoing work “Signal Interference”, an excellent tale of unlikely bedfellows in the Çerid & Kalgachians, and an equally outstanding look into the former’s literally alien mindset.
For the history award, I nominate Gerald Ruze and his now-former nation, the Republic of Gerenia, may it be remembered fondly as it passes into the next life.
For the award for best new idea, I nominate the Fédération Micraise de Sport, on behalf of the 2018 Micras Games, which proves that even on Micras, it is not impossible to bring the world together with sports.
For the overall achievement award, I nominate Ric, in all his guises, legion are they indeed.

Re: Fnords 2018 nominations
Some good nominations here... though I must insist that any nomination for Tales from Kalgachia includes Ryker and Shyriath - since the last FNORDs it's no longer a one-man band.
I don't recall if he's already had the same award for the same things (probably) but I'd like to nominate Craitman for Overall Achievement - the steady dribble of sport has become oddly comforting even to disinterested souls like myself, but the main thing deserving of credit is his continued maintenance of the MCS as the well-oiled machine that it is - as the dark days of previous dysfunctional administrations recede further into history, it's easy to forget that it hasn't always been this way and we shouldn't take the organisation's present leadership for granted. While initially annoying, my occasional clashes with the Craitgod have ultimately left me with greater respect for the man's impartiality, prudence and fortitude - now would be a good time for us as a community to acknowledge that.
Also I'd like to propose a new category - Overambition. This would cover ideas which are excellent in concept, but bogged down by their own sheer scale. It occurred to me that Ardy would have gotten it last year for expanding the War of Lost Brothers to six battlefronts and a fistful of spin-off conflicts, and this year's award could go to those who set up the Micras Games...

Re: Fnords 2018 nominations
I don't know if my votes count something here. But here's mine (doesn't cover all the categories, sorry)
Leadership: Craitman. It's a patient leader. You can't agree on every decision he makes,of course, but at least he is always there ready to help you. Never saw a Boss like that before.
Literature: Tales from Kalgachia
Best new idea: Well, would be Micras Games....BUT....I don't really like how many thinghs were managed there. I just appreciate the idea and the effort while there's much to improve.
Overall achievement: Yeah,Joe. Always there doing stuff. A lot of stuff.
I actually would also like to give special kudos to Nikola for bringing back basketball in Micras.

I'll second Krasniy's motion for a category of over ambition to be implemented, and nominate the Micras Games for that.
