Dear all

First of all, I must apologize for the lateness of this year’s Fnords – there have been a few deadlines that pushed this an extra day. I hope you can forgive us.

But on the other hand, it is fitting. Fnord day is January 8, a day when we commemorate the death of our lord and emperor Norton, and therefore it should be a day spent in quiet contemplation rather than in festivities as these awards merit.

As such, let this be the start of a new tradition, that we shall have the awards on the day after the death, because on that new day we celebrate rebirth, life, and wonderful things.

In that spirit, we – this year’s Fnord committee consisting of myself as chair and of Krasniy and Halian as jurors – are happy to announce this year’s awardees.

As most promising micronationalist, we award a Fnord to Cosmic Fury. We’ve been impressed with his near spamming of the MicrasWiki with constant updates to his nation Ralgon and many other articles. We welcome him to our community and hope we’ll see him for a long time on.

As for most promising new micronation, we’ve been very impressed with Ceridgul, which is why we award it that Fnord. A most interesting backstory, with aliens coming to our shared Micras planet and developing culturally in isolation from the rest of our planet. The premise is amazing, and we look forward to following the various cultural shocks, stories and interactions which naturally will follow from this premise.

In terms of cultural development, we wish to award Edgard for his work on Caputian cinema. By exploring popular culture in a micronation this way – a way never done before in this field, he has brought imagination to us all, and made us explore our own nations’ popular culture and cinema. Edgard found a niche we didn’t know we would love and made us love it, and made us all explore it, think about it and, now, we can’t be without it. Thank you Edgard – your work for the CBC has also given you an award for journalism by the way!

But culture is not only national development or cultural development, it is also literature. We have been particularly impressed with Primo de Aguilar’s “Under the Constancian Sun”, a suite of many episodes, episodes we don’t wish to end. Primo’s writing is a lense through which we see and understand the Constancian society, culture and life. We thank him for his work as we award him the Fnord for literature. Keep up the writing!

We award Gustaaf Vermeylen the Fnord for leadership. Through leading the efforts of resurrecting Batavia and setting up the interesting island nation of Acradia, Gustaaf has shown us that he is a true leader, worthy of our award and of our inspiration. Thank you Gustaaf, please don’t stop leading!

Finally, we award the Fnord of “’Tis but a fleshwound” to Tablecloth Kitten. Our fearless kitten decided for some bizarre reason to duplicate Norrland’s wiki article several times over, and was sufficiently unfazed by Crait's reversion to offer some hearty rejoinders of a racially inflammatory flavour (which promptly got him banned). Don’t worry, kitten, ’tis but a fleshwound. You’ll be welcome back to us once you grow up to be a real cat. After all, everybody wants to be a cat!

Thank you all my friends. My jurors and I leave in peace.

I am Ekersud! I speak for the Çerid, the courageous, the crafty!

That the committee has seen fit to recognize the People in this fashion is, though quite understandable, nonetheless an immense honor, and we shall treasure it. Our thanks!
