Submissions for the Seven Wonders of Micras
To all leaders of Micras,
It is my pleasure to announce that I will be compiling a list of the Seven Wonders of Micras. This is a list meant to catalogue the wonders, structure, architecture, and cultural significance of any nation on Micras, old or new. If you believe your nation has the best, most beautiful, or most culturally strong monument, we would love to welcome your submissions.
There are a few rules to this submission:
1. Each nation may only submit three monuments for consideration
2. You must have citizenship of the nation you are providing the submission for; if the nation no longer exists, you must have had citizenship at some point
3. The monument must have a significant cultural tie to your nation and its history
4. The monument must still be standing, but it does not necessarily have to be in a nation that still exists (see point 5)
5. If the monument was constructed before 2012 (IRL time), and the nation it was constructed by is no longer on Micras, you must provide a rationale as to how it is still standing
Submissions must contain the name of the monument, a physical description, and a rationale for why the monument should be included, including its history and cultural significance. Pictures are preferred, but are not required. If the monument has a wiki article or dedicated piece of an article and the link is provided, physical and cultural descriptions may not be necessary if they are included in the wiki article (for obvious reasons), but I'll request that you still provided them in the submission for easier compiling.
As the name suggests, the list will feature only seven monuments, but we will keep three honourable mentions. The list will not be in any particular order.
The list will also be updated in January every year to account for new nations on Micras.
The deadline for submissions is February 1st.

The Florian Republic nominates the Old Senate Building in Northcliff City. Mostly destroyed after the liberation of Northcliff, the ruins have been left to become a popular tourist landmark in the city. The building to one side has completely collapsed but the chamber mostly remains intact. A river also passes the ruins.

I think the Esagila of Raynor should definitely be on the list, as should the Ancient Walled City of Sarhat.

Not that I want the initiative to fail, but it would tickle me if there were only three "Seven Wonders"

I nominate Raynor's Keep (Shireroth) - on the basis that the principle wonder is that it is still there at all. (Shirewiki article where a few of the images associated with the main text survived)
All this has happened before, and all this will happen again.

Re: Submissions for the Seven Wonders of Micras
I would like to submit two:
The Imperial Palace at Glacier City (still working on the wiki article). It's the religious capital of that nation, and also has the oldest extant buildings in the nation. According to legend, the Ralgon people all originate from the mountain's caldera, which now houses a temple and the Ralgon Emperor's (now primary) palace.
The natural wonder would be the vast Great Swamp. How a place like that could support only a carnivorous population above the surface of the water is beyond anyone's guess, and how it's still there after being nuked twice baffles scientists to this day.

Re: Submissions for the Seven Wonders of Micras
While its current state is yet to be described, having been dismantled and reassembled as a statue by Jingdao, and subsequently dismantled again by the Lakkvians, I might as well squeeze the Hurmu Gate in before the deadline. The site is currently claimed by Craitland, within the territory of Lakkvia, and sits south of the capital Vesüha, built on the ruins of the former Huyenkula. As an ancient piece of Micras' history, the original gate was constructed well before 2011, and since Hurmu's demise, the land was unclaimed for approximately two months in late 2013 before falling under Craitish rule consistently ever since.
The Hurmu Gate was admitted as Micras Heritage Site No. 1 in 2011 in its original form with the following:

Elijah Ayreon wrote: ↑Tue Nov 08, 2011 12:47 pmNow comes Elwynn, Amokolia and Hurmu, by and through its lawful Prince and Leader, Daniel, with the application for the lodgement of the HURMU GATE as a heritage site of Micras.
Name of site:
THE HURMU GATE
Micronation:
HURMU (constituent country of ELWYNN, AMOKOLIA AND HURMU)
Type of site:
Site of symbolic and historic signifance, site of the once important interdimensional portal between the planets Micras and Giess, now no longer deemed functional for reasons unknown. Date of construction is also unknown. Constructor unknown, theories believe it is based off Jasonian technology, some say it's a GC invention.
Outstanding universal value:
The Hurmu Gate was a renowned portal between Giess and Micras allowing for instant travel between the two planets. Figuring in the mythoi of many different countries on both Giess and Micras, some still living and some long gone, the Gate has taken on a mythical role and has been seen as almost messianic in its premises in uniting two diverse communities. (first criterion)
For Hurmudans, the Gate has significantly added to placing Hurmu on the map. People, Hurmudans and foreigners, flocked to the Gate, and foreign nations as diverse as Zindaria (which Hurmu had never heard of) and Universalis recognized its merits. Sadly, the Gate was used in interplanetary warfare, leaving countless dead, injured or as refugees. (second criterion)
The technology of the Gate has its origins clouded in fog. Nobody really knows, but the most definite theories have it that it somewhat Jasonian or at least Apollonian in origin. Although much of the Gate now lies in ruins,it is hoped that the facade will be able to be restored. The technology behind the gate must be all-gone lost, but the facade can be restored. [third criterion]
As the Gate contributed to many events with many countries great and small, played a part in wars endangering all humanity (maybe even all Giess was destroyed because of this, some theorists hold this), we believe that the Hurmu Gate has had a lasting effect upon the people of Micras, of the people of Hurmu and particularly on the history of this planet we call our home. [fourth criterion]
Floor plan:
Due to the nature of the Gate, no floor plans or detailed plans at all are kept, either original or current. However, the site of the Hurmu Gate lies on the road almost half-way between the village Quernass and Hurmu's capital, Huyenkula. It is located on the south shore of Lake Cashma (the largest in surface area of the Hurmu lakes) and is today a tourist pilgrimage site. Due to the nature of the Gate, few visitors can be allowed in on the site at the same time, restricting the number of visitors (including scientists, conservationalists, archeologists, etc) to be one hundred persons for every twenty-four hour period. The Gate is however a prominent building, reaching almost one hundred and fifty metres over ground level, allowing visitors and tourists to observe this beacon from afar, either from the Huyenkula/Quernass countryside or from the waters of Lake Cashma where boat trips indeed are frequent.
On behalf of Elwynn, Amokolia and particularly of Hurmu, I assure you of my highest esteem.
DANIEL
Alfred Dunholm wrote: ↑Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:28 pmThe Hurmu Gate, which once spanned the gap between the planets of Giess and Micras but is now alas defunct, reflects one of the greatest milestones and most turbulent periods in the history of the Micronational Community. It represents in a uniquely tangible form:
• The difficulties and innovations relating to the interactions between the two planets which existed at the time of the site’s inception.
• One of very few existent monuments to the now defunct planet of Giess.
The site qualifies under the following criterion:
• Criterion 3; the site is the only construction ever recorded on Micras which allowed instantaneous interplanetary travel.
• Criterion 4; the site represents a now extinct tradition of co-existent Micronational planets.
It is upon these grounds the Hurmu Gate is inscribed as Micran Heritage Site No.1.
Re: Submissions for the Seven Wonders of Micras
I have a few submissions.
1. Vista de Nada Palace: 151 years old (2007) and one of the earliest and best examples of the Natopian architecture style. Natopia's unique and futuristic architecture was one of the earliest ways Natopia distinguished and developed itself as a micronation. Putting Natopia on a futurist design trajectory, it also laid the foundations for Natopia establishing its Spacefleet (of which the NISS might be considered one of the 7 Wonders Orbiting Micras)
2. The Cathedral-Basilica of the Sacred Calf (The Ruined Cathedral) originally built in the early 1500s, it is a larger copy of the Temple of the Butter Cow in Elwynn. It represented how the Bovic faith was fostered and grew in Elwynn during the Natopian dark ages, and when Natopia was restored we honored Elwynn by copying the Temple there and building it in our capital city. When one of Natopia's gods, the Butter Bull, reincarnated on Micras in 1567 (2011) and directly ruled Natopia as a dictator the Cathedral was damaged and has been on fire ever since (113 years). It's eternal and supernatural flame is a reminder for the Bovic faithful to maintain proper and efficient civic government or else the Butter Bull will return with another reign of mild terror to wipe the slate clean again.
3. The Ptia Bridge: https://micras.org/wiki/index.php?title=Ptia_Bridge while only 59 years old (2015), it is a very long railroad and highway bridge that connects Ptia to Port Trias. An engineering marvel, the bridge also leads into a tunnel that goes under Ptia, which is a preserved island that holds Soloralist ruins. Its completion was symbolic for Natopia as it literally bridged the gap between "old Natopia" on its original island and "new Natopia" expanding on the rest of the Tapfer continent.

Apologies for the delay, real life issues have become unavoidable. Results will be uploaded as soon as possible, but I can unfortunately make no promises as to when other than "fairly soon".
