That's not bad either.

We have a name.
We do not need a new one.
We have a logo.
We do not need a new one.

Why're people so bloody keen on change for the point of change right now?
A domain change? fair enough..cause nothing is effected, if we can re-direct the micras.org/forum to it... go and change our name and logo.. you're just making us generic, plain, boring to be politically correct. We used to get by with the mcs and everyone was happy.. what the hell changed? People are coming in when invited.. are they being put off drastically because we have a nice, recognised logo at the top of the board? NO.. they're not.

"Politically correct", generic, bland society here we come. >.>.... we have an identity.. don't give up on it.

It's comforting to see you taking this stance on a project different than Bastion. For a while, I was starting to wonder if it was personal.

What is our name?! I look at the top and see "The as-of-yet unnamed micronational forum". I look at the logo and see "phpbb". We do not have a name or a logo and have not had either for over eight months now. I don't know what world you're living in, I really don't. (Actually, it has just occurred to me that you might still have the old skin, selected, in which case we've about two years behind the curve now. If this is the case, then you can keep the old skin and logo!)

We've got the chance here to so something really exciting, to change the course of the hobby as a whole. I have literally no idea whatsoever as to why you are describing this as political correctness. You might as well describe it as a disgusting invasion of the Earth by Martians with forty-six heads, because it'd have about as much basis in fact.

In fact, no.. hell to it. You see nothing at the top of the board because you chose as such and so have no right to take a tone with me that (even if it wasn't your intent) just makes me out to look stupid. Its your fault that you see 'phpbb' as a logo.. because its not exactly hard to pick a skin you like to look at instead is it? Hell make your own and stick it nicely so you can see it.. What world I'm living in is a world where I don't care if I'm "two years behind the curve" as that little spot sounds a lot nicer than what you've chosen to put up with.

I don't think the swirl is a good idea, it looks very '90's computer graphics style.' I really think that the one right below it and Guido's recently proposed one are the best.

Getting back to the name issue, I don't see any problem with using MicroHub. The former site has been defunct for a long time now. If we were to forego the reuse of every former micronational organization's names, then we'd be without the ability to name anything at this point, as most everything has already been used at one time or another!

As far as the logo is concerned, I am gravitating more towards the spoked-wheel concept as it portrays our service as a multi-faceted portal better than the swirl.

Which one do you think:
-the majority of old members
-visitors
-new members
see?

I literally cannot believe how belligerent you are prepared to get over a forum skin & logo.

I can see her point, she doesn't want any image that has built up around MCS and it's forums to be dissolved, it's far too easy for a new hub to quickly die due to having no ranking in the community, I believe Kovac was starting a hub the same time as microhub started... Anyone ever heard of it? nope...

There were a load of new mapping companies when GSO started, anyone remember them? vaguely at best...

Image is important, but it's why we should be very careful, it's dangerous to make these changes, some might say we shouldn't do them due to this, but if we're careful, they should work...

I'm also annoyed at a tone you seem to take with some of your posts, intentional or not.. at times I'm not in the mood to answer them with ignoring it.

Even when I'm not logged in, I see this skin.. so it must be your choice to not see it. And seems as 384 users are still using etech fair enough not all of them active, but a lot in comparison to the 2 users using the skin you're using currently, and another 5 using prosilver.. I'd say it was a valud argument.. if done with a little emotion.

I'm confused by this statement, because it sounds as if you plan on deleting the forum and starting over or something. We're talking about changing the skin on the forum to match a new portal website. This does not (AFAIK) entail dismantling the MCS website or dissolving any aspects of it. In fact, Bastion's use of specific themes for subforums could be used here as well so that the MCS forums could retain the original skin, while the main forums would transition to a new one.

You're worried about this place dying? Well, news flash, it already is dying! We're attempting to instill some new life into it, and instead of moving forward we seem to be hunkering down in a corner afraid of change. This argument is getting ridiculous. Comparing MicroHub to something Kovac tried to do is like comparing white to black; essentially there is no comparison. Kovac has long been lauded as a tyrant and powermonger (whether he is or isn't is not a matter of this debate, I am simply stating the historical context) and regardless of any coverage, he would not have gotten any visitors anyways simply due to his reputation. We on the other hand already have an established reputation as a trustworthy entity. Any transition we make to improve how we help the community can, in turn, only result in improving our standing with the community and expand our user base.

As far as I know the plans are to move the forum over, but the plans also involve rather radical reorganisation of the board, this is what I was pointing out
I was planning on individual styles for the boards, keeping the eTech one for MCS, etc, also making sure every micras.org/forum/viewtopic.php?something link goes to the new forum seamlessly.

I feel people would get used to it rather speedily, but I can see why Artz might not feel people would

I'm not that worried about this place dieing, it's not already dieing, that's pessimism, the number of posts today alone is dreadfully high :P
I'm quite happily moving forward with wanting this stuff, even drafting up designs for the new website.
Kovac wasn't a good example, but perhaps MicroHub is? It never reached the power MNN had or MCS has... but you also glazed over the maps there, many were started by respectable people, but where are they? :P (of course, you can generally go through and point out the flaws in each) but you must see my point right? I'm just saying that sometimes changes are damaging, I don't believe that these changes will be particularly so, but I think Artz worries they may be...
