[New Forum] Page Content
Rather than clutter up the website design thread, where we're discussing more layout and graphic material, let's use this thread to discuss and fine-edit the content of the new pages.
What we need content for so far:
Index blurb
- Introductory text for the main page of the site.
About Pages:
- About Hub.mn: Goes to a page describing the history of the site and the community.
- Contact Us: Goes to a page with a list of staff members and contact information.
Micronations (or maybe "Micronationalism"?)
- FAQ: Goes to an FAQ page about micronations and answers common questions.
- History: Gives a summarized history of micronations from past to present.
- Definitions: Provides an explanation of the various types of micronations (secessionist, simulationist, etc) and other mn lingo.
Hosting
- Description of hosting services, terms of service, etc.
Hosted sites
- List of hosted sites and descriptions of each.

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
Contact us should probably limit moderator and Administrator email addresses to just being {Name or Pseudonym}@hub.mn, just to be keeping it all together and looking formal
I have no clue what can go on the FAQ, I was trying to make a FAQ for the forumlist a while ago, but I haven't the blindest idea what would go on it
You or scott would be good people to write the history, but Scott isn't here at the moment... I suppose ari, Saikar, etc might be good, but I dunno... they seem less likely to (ari in particular, ari has dance dance revolution and haskell to do, possibly at the same time(?)) I could do a very detailed account of the history between August 15th 2005 and August 15th 2006, as during that time I actually kept a sort of book all about what I did, which I kept updated all the time... but then it went totally out of date. It's also super hard to read due to my terrible grammar and spelling which I'm sure you recall.
Definitions... oh dear god... Should definitely exercise so so so much caution writing anything like a definition. I prefer to totally avoid simulationist and secessionist when doing anything important, they just stir up anger, specify things with "micronations who lay claim to real world land" and "micronations who do not lay claim to real world land" and "micronations who lay claim to Micras land" etc, they don't totally mesh over everyone's definitions of simulationist and secessionist obviously, because those terms are vaguer than murk.
Hosting... I'm not sure how we're doing that... I need to look into my mysql situation, there must be stuff that isn't used, but what specifically is it...
List of hosted sites could have a contact for each hostee perhaps, and each could be a @hub.mn address, again to keep it formal and uniform
Of course, the @hub.mn emails will forward to emails that they actually use...

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
I've had a bash at a sort of page layout; http://cairney.webs.com/hub/about.html
The footer looks a bit odd just hovering. I tried to make the bottom slightly rounded but it still looks odd. Any suggestions?

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
I think the footer looks ok, but it does highlight that there's another small bit of text to deal with, which is the copyright, not sure what we're putting there? We can't actually enforce much copyright and to be honest, I'm pretty sure at least a few of us here are a tad averse to copyright.. if you know what i mean
Re: [New Forum] Page Content
CC-BY-NC-SA 3.0 Unported and GFDL (or GPL where needed).
Hâlian, Magic: The Gathering player/baseball and gridiron fan/computer guy/conlinguist and worldbuilder/tabletop and video game fan too
Re: [New Forum] Page Content
I'd be fine with something like "Material on this website is the property of its respective author(s). Reproduction is limited to not-for-profit use and public education."
Or something like that.
Or something like that.
Re: [New Forum] Page Content
The only purpose of that phrase would be to make yourself feel better. Legally, it would be difficult or impossible to enforce.

Welcome to the internet...
If you really want to go for one, BY-NC-SA will be fine, though there's not going to be much for it to cover.

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
Alright, here's a draft intro blurb:
Feel free to edit and improve. The Hub of Micronations is a website dedicated to providing participants of the hobby known as micronationalism with ample resources and utilities that will both educate and enhance their ability to interact and enjoy the community. This website serves as a centralized hub to a plethora of educational and explanatory documents, the latest micronational news, utilities such as cartography and research, FAQs, wikis, sports, radio, and many other invaluable resources. In addition, we also provide links to many micronations and tracking tools to sort through the many states within the hobby. Our site strives to provide information for the newcomer, and tools of the trade for longtime participants. We hope that you will find these resources useful.
Sincerely,
The Staff of Hub.mn
Re: [New Forum] Page Content
For a 'Contact Us" page I was thinking of something like this:
Staff of Hub.mn
Site Administrator: Dr_Spangle
Staff of the Micronational Cartography Society:
Administrator General: Craitman
Senior Cartographer: Pawel Abrams
Senior Cartographer: Dr_Spangle
Senior Cartographer: Chrimigules
Staff of the Apollo Foundation:
Co-Chair: Ryan Caruso
Co-Chair: Harvey Steffke
Staff of Micras Initiative Trading Organization (MITO)
Chairman: Andreas the Wise
Staff of the International Centre for Micropatriology
Senior Editor: Andreas the Wise
Senior Editor: Scott Alexander
Staff of the Micronational Speech Society
Chairman: Guido Zambelis
And so on and so forth....
And rather than linking to an email, I think it would make more sense to link each name to their respective forum profile; and via that a person can be PM'ed.

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
The Intro blurb looks fine to me...
Perhaps the contact details page could have both Forum link and email? Perhaps the email address linking to a PHP form they can use to send an email?
That would make the style of it look ok

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
On the copyright however, do we really need to have anything at all? No one is going to copy our entire site and reproduce it commercially, and if they do, that's sorta flattering...

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
Unless some sort of spam scheme is created, in which case we might not want our name associated with it.
We have nothing to lose, go with a BY-NC-SA.
Ryan, I think that list runs the risk of associating the user organisations too strongly with the hub. Can't they have contact details on their own pages?

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
My reasoning for putting the list of staffers all on one page was for ease of reference. Say, for example, a newbie comes along and wants to get in touch with a particular staff member; they simply have to reference this page to see who's who and who they need to talk to. Also, if we have separate contact pages, it will make updating them more tedious than if we have one long list. We could re-sort the list in alphabetical order by organization (which would put hub staff under "H") so it looks less hub-centric.

Re: [New Forum] Page Content
The staff of the other hosted groups could go under the hosted sites section, gives more to put in there?
That would be classing a board on the forum as a form of hosting, which it is. Would also give more categories of hosting, which is nice.
