International Waters
How far away from land masses (in pixels or in miles/km) does the MCS recognize a country has claims to the waters around their shores?

Re: International Waters
Oh god, I used to know this. I think it might be in a thread (or two) on here. I'll have a quick search and see what I can find!
Re: International Waters
I tried my own searches, but all I got was people still wondering what the policy was.

Re: International Waters
I found a thread on the old forum discussing territorial water claims being anywhere between two and five pixels' worth from the land, which would roughly equate to 14-35 miles. It seems that there may have never been an ultimate agreement, but a two-pixel understanding...
Re: International Waters
On Terra, it's 8-12km depending on national laws.
I would recommend 10 miles (16.9 km) for Micras.

Re: International Waters
Maybe in terms of the claimsmap, at least, it should be easily equated - so like a two-pixel boundary, for exampleCJ Miller wrote:I would recommend 10 miles (16.9 km) for Micras.
Re: International Waters
Agreed, pixel-based boundary would be more convenient for general purposes.Craitman wrote:Maybe in terms of the claimsmap, at least, it should be easily equated - so like a two-pixel boundary, for exampleCJ Miller wrote:I would recommend 10 miles (16.9 km) for Micras.
Is there any way we can change this sort of thing from a discussion to an actual MCS policy? And, if so, how?

Re: International Waters
As long as there's a lot of general agreement, it can be proposed and a change to the Charter can be voted on
This could possibly tie-in with Ari's (Ailin) proposal to change the scale of pixels on the map too...

Re: International Waters
Wouldn't 5 pixels be better in terms of seeing the boundary better on the map, also gives more of a chance of events occurring in domestic waters?
Re: International Waters
This means we need to discuss also the Continental Shelf?

Well, as far as I know, the MCS has never defined what's under the water.

The extent of national control over the sea is a matter for each state, and not something the MCS should be deciding unilaterally. We need an some thing like this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nat ... of_the_Sea.

Indeed, but Max did start a really good sea topography map showing trenches etc. But he never finished it, and I'm not sure where the stuff he started is.Malliki Tosha wrote:Well, as far as I know, the MCS has never defined what's under the water.

Re: International Waters
If you're doing a map showing continental shelfs and trenches, you should really start with a simple map of the techtonic plates.
