Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Back on the pixel problem, why not make it 10km per pixel? That is a change from 6.917 to 6.213.

Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
I guess that'd keep the measurements a lot closer to what they currently are. Would it make more sense for a new survey to discover a planet smaller than previously thought, rather than larger? Probably...
Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Really, we're talking differences of just barely over to just under a kilometer per pixel. but 12km seems just as arbitrary as 6.917 miles. 10km makes for very easy calculations for everyone, simply because it is multiplying/dividing by 10. While multiplying and dividing by 12 is easy enough, with large distances and weird shapes, 10km just seems a little more pragmatic, that is all.

Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Anything but 12 kms would render all of Bill and Spangle's projects like satellite launches and distance calculators and such useless, which isn't cool. I'm not going to ask him redo a bunch of work, even if 10km per pixel is a nicer number. The decimal is the real bad part, that's what needs to disappear most.

Well, 12 is more accurate, and it's 11 which is the most. I'll be for 12 though (the equator longer, and thus the radius bigger), as Micras has stronger gravity than Earth - and has lower density than our planet.

Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Ah, well if a lot of work has been done assuming a 12km pixel, then that is fine.
Though as Ari stated not many bother with these kinds of stats, but it is a necessary change I suppose. At least it is in metric lol.

Could just up it to 7 miles.

Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Pretty sure that was the original suggestion, but I think metric's now taken precedence...
Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Which was exactly the reason I mentioned the miles.
Re: Proposal - Distance Per Pixel
Most people wanted to go metric. Aslo, the key here is that changing it from 12 km ruins a bunch of work that's been done. It's actually 12.02 something something. That works out to 300 km difference when one travels the entire width of the map. When it comes to long, long distances like space programs, the Wiki has the full decimal in reference. .02 does not change much over a couple hundred km, which is the average distance range we would use.

Has there been any progress? It has been a week since this issue was officially submitted.

There's been discussion, but I guess this should be put to a vote...
Edit: Another newbie question! It seems to be traditional that the Administrator General puts proposals to a Council vote, but is it allowed for other Council members to do the same?

Well, yes, Craitman had done this before he was promoted...

Didn't see any stickies saying whether I could do it or not do it.
