Proposal: Charter amendment

Proposal: Charter amendment
Currently with non-claimsmap MCS maps the following rules apply, as written in the charter:
Given how difficult it would be to amass the current 26 nations to vote in favour of a simple change to the physical map for something uncontroversial (ie adding the name Galatia to the island that Vyktory is on or the Strait of Haifa (something that has been somewhat formalised via a poll and the claim of the nation of the Strait of Haifa).
My suggestion is that we give the MCS council the same rights to edit the physical map as it does to make changes to the claimsmap and update the charter to reflect this.
This motion would require the support of 75% of the MCS member nations (currently 26 of the 34) to support it to pass.

Re: Proposal: Charter amendment
The main point I would bring-up is that one man's uncontroversial is another man's intellectual property they may have a considerable objection to being used. Maintaining such a large majority requirement to change such maps limits the possibility of such a situation being exploited - three more-nefarious-minded Council members could legitimately rename an established continent, whereas I'd hope a lot fewer than 75% of member nations would support a change like that!
Re: Proposal: Charter amendment
Galatia is not a Vyktory related name. That is part of the Alexandrian legacy, the province of Galatia was there for a long time before the MCS forced a reduction and we had to give it up. It was later recreated, but in Cibola. I would be strongly opposed to that name change because that name belongs to an Alexandrian province. I hope that can be respected.

Re: Proposal: Charter amendment
When I was Admin, my unwritten policy was to let people call lands whatever they wished, treating it as merely a different name for the same place. Take, for example, America. The feminine/Latin form is Columbia. Alternatives include Freedonia, Appalachia, Usonia, etc. In this way a new nation occupying a place with an old name can use the "alternative name" hypothesis to justify calling it something else, even if it is unofficial.

That's actually reminded me, I swear Spangle started a list back in ye olden times of geographical names of things as a comparison of who calls what, well, what
EDIT: And boom. Not that it works anymore...

I think this is probably the most sensible approach to the matter.Orion wrote: ↑Mon Dec 18, 2017 1:29 amWhen I was Admin, my unwritten policy was to let people call lands whatever they wished, treating it as merely a different name for the same place. I dropped the claim to the name Galatia ages ago due to concerns from Edgard, I'm not sure why you used it as an example...
I'd be in support of this so long as IP was respected.
