Re: Treaty Discussions
Braden's treaty goes too far in its clauses against Interland.
There is also nothing mentioned in any drafts about a DMZ which I believe was agreed upon by both parties? If you're going to talk about implemtnation of the Treaty in a whole clause then it may be best to set a timetable of dates.

Sorry about forgetting the DMZ. I'll have a look at the treaty tomorrow.

Re: Treaty Discussions
I added the DMZ. Any issues the Interlandian side may have with this treaty should be addressed in detail, not in general as before. Please show me specific amendments, otherwise the Antican side will view this entire process as a stall tactic and hostilities will resume.Treaty of Peace and Recognition between the Antican Republic and the Republic of Interland
ARTICLE 1
In the interest of mutual peace and friendship, there shall exist a perpetual state of peace between the Antican Republic and the Republic of Interland, hereafter referred to as the Parties.
ARTICLE 2
The Republic of Interland agrees to cede complete control over the island of Montauk to the Antican Republic.
ARTICLE 3
The Antican Republic commits to respect the indigenous culture of Montauk, insofar as it is compatible with the general theme and culture of the Antican Republic.
ARTICLE 4
The Parties undertake to settle any international disputes between them by peaceful means in such a manner that their peace and security and justice are not endangered.
ARTICLE 5
The Parties will consult together from time to time regarding the implementation of this Treaty, and, at the request of either Party, whenever the security of either Party or international peace and security on Micras is threatened. If in the case of aggressive action undertaken by either Party, the two Parties shall not have mutually agreed in previous consultation to undertake such action, the other Party shall not be obligated to provide any assistance.
ARTICLE 6
Each Party recognizes that any armed attack against the other Party would constitute an act of war, and commits to refraining from such actions.
ARTICLE 7
In the case of an armed attack commited by the Antican Republic against the Republic of Interland, sovereignty over the island of Montauk shall immediately revert back to Interland. In the case of an armed attack commited by the Republic of Interland against the Antican Republic, this Treaty shall be null and void, and sovereignty over the island of Montauk shall continue to belong to the Antican Republic.
ARTICLE 8
Both Parties recognize each other's territorial claims and sovereignty.
ARTICLE 9
The island of Montauk shall remain a demilitarized zone for six months after the ratification of this treaty.
ARTICLE 10
This Treaty shall be ratified by the Antican Republic and the Republic of Interland in accordance with their respective constitutional processes and will enter into force on the date on which both Parties shall have ratified it.
ARTICLE 11
This Treaty shall be in force indefinitely until terminated in accordance with its provisions. At any time after the ratification of this Treaty by both Parties, either Party may give notice to the other Party of its intention to terminate the Treaty, in which case the Treaty shall terminate one month after such notice has been given. Termination by the Antican Republic will automatically retrocede the island of Montauk to the Republic of Interland. Termination by the Republic of Interland will void the duty of the Antican Republic to respect this Treaty, while sovereignty over the island of Montauk will remain with the Antican Republic.
ARTICLE 12
Nothing in this Treaty shall be construed to deny the right of either Party to request renegotiation or amendment of all or part of the Articles herein. Any amendment shall be subject to the agreement and ratification of both Parties.

Re: Treaty Discussions
Seems fine from the Judges Bench. I'd caution that when you talk about implementation of the treaty you should put a timetable in to make sure both sides know the timescale for implementing the provisions. In addition on the DMZ if we were being realistic there should be a third party monitoring force.

Re: Treaty Discussions
Is there a need for a timetable? Wouldn't the provisions enter into force when the treaty has been ratified by both parties?
As for the DMZ, I think we could allow unannounced inspections by the Interlandians and/or a third party.

Isn't that given in Article 10?Malliki Tosha wrote:Is there a need for a timetable? Wouldn't the provisions enter into force when the treaty has been ratified by both parties?
There's a problem that we don't have international organisations like United Nations or OSCE here. But we'd pay a visit to Montauk for sure.Lord_Montague wrote:In addition on the DMZ if we were being realistic there should be a third party monitoring force.
The Treaty seems good to me... I'll bring a copy to Winktown.

Re: Treaty Discussions
I'll do the same in Antica. There is a timetable for the DMZ. Other than that, I'm not sure what else we should put on a timetable.

Re: Treaty Discussions
Also, Article 2 should read: "The Republic of Interland agrees to cede complete control and sovereignty over the island of Montauk to the Antican Republic.", just for clarity.
