Calbion v. Meckelnburgh [Friendly]
Calbion 1-0 Meckelnburgh
86' Moriarty
An exciting match this Sunday when Calbion played its first match after its successful return to independence. The question on everyone's mind was "can the Dragons return to greatness once again?" The stakes were high for this match, not only for the Calbain team but also for Meckelnburgh, who came to the Caerdragon Stadium with only one goal: to win. Since its formation, Meckelnburhg has established itself as a challenger to some of the established teams on Micras. Would the Calbain suffer the same fate as Two-Martyrs, who were destroyed by the Meckelnburgh team?
The first half was characterised by a stalemate. Calbion began the game attacking, but Meckelnburgh's defensive line seemed to be impregnable. Two great chances for Owen Baine and Llywelyn Wyn-Jones didn't result in an opening goal. After the break, Calbion continued to dominate on possession, but the Dragons grew more and more frustrated with the great defending of the Mecklenburghers. This led to some sloppy play from the Calbain defense. In the 60th minute, this resulted in the biggest chance of the match, when Gareth William found himself free in front of the Calbain goal. Only the incredible reflex from Aluc Jones prevented the visitors from getting ahead.
The score was finally opened in the 86th minute when Adam Moriarty scored the 1-0 with a header from a perfectly cut corner by Owen Baine. The relief on the side of the Calbain supporters was visible whey all rose off their seats and started singing "Calon Lân". The goal by Moriarty remained the only goal of the match, and the Dragons won their first win following independence, which was celebrated all over the country.
