Group A
Hazar vs. Calbion
Natopia vs. Greater Sangun
Hazar vs. Calbion
Steerswick vs. Sankt LudwigshafenThe hosts Hazar opened the CiboTap Championships with fixture against hot favourites Calbion at the 14th June Stadium in Hazar City. The hosts started brightly though, and hit the post early on when Ætaňur Chanojk's through ball found Tahir Bælbæyojk in space, but the Nevişahsınamünhasır man could only strike the upright with his shot. It wouldn't be a lengthy wait though for the tournament's first, with Çengiz Tahir bundling home Kawab Hocæzæde's cross after Calbion failed to clear their lines the first time round. The home crowd erupted, but their team struggled to keep hold of the lead. In the second half, Miles Moreland forced Akçay Dilmen into a sprawling save before Llewelyn Wyn-Jones eventually levelled the game just after the half-hour mark, with the Barkham forward tapping home at the back post after Cedric Ross made room for a shot, which the keeper could only spill into the path of Wyn-Jones. Calbion had further opportunities, but Dilmen denied Wyn-Jones after tipping his short range header over, before Liam Morgan struck the crossbar with a thunderous attempt from just inside the box.Spoiler!
Group BSteerswick and Sankt Ludwigshafen turned out for their major tournament debuts at the Istiklal Republic Stadium, and the crowd in attendance was treated with an instant classic. After just ten mInutes, Sankt Ludwigshafen opened the scoring, with Guus Veerman wriggling free of his marked to head home from a corner. And within five mintues, his team doubled their lead, with some lacklustre defending allowing Jesper de Boer space on the edge of the box, with the Sport Louisville man rifling his effort low into the bottom corner from just outside the box as the goalkeeper was left unsighted by his defence, and could only dive when it was too late. A stunned Steerswick managed to pull themselves together and get through to half time, but now they needed a serious change in fortunes to salvage anything from the game.Spoiler!
And that managed to arrive within 15 minutes of the re-start, when Jago Hellier used his strength to hold up the ball on the edge of the box, before slotting the ball through towards Jack Trelawney, who fired a low shot across the face of the goalkeeper and into the bottom-left corner of the net. Steerswick were growing in confidence, and were unlucky not to level when Kenneth Cruyf somehow managed to get a fingertip to keep out Diego Madron's low drive. But unfortunately, it was RSL who were to strike next, with the Eastern Cibolans managing to catch their opponents on the counter-attack, with substitute Sigmund Licht managing to beat the keeper in a 1-on-1 situation to finish off a fast-paced defence-to-attack move. But just as the game looked settled, things changed again. Diego Madron won a free-kick on the edge of the box, and his resulting free kick hit the post, before bouncing off of the back of Hans-Dieter Löw and into the bottom corner to bring Steerswick back into the game again. And with seven minutes to go, the scores were levelled, with Clovis Clotworthy whipping a ball into the box, only for Cruyf to miss the ball with his punched clearence, with the ball falling for substitute Rich Burnett, who volleyed home at the back post to level proceedings. However, that was not to be the end of the drama, with Steerswick being reduced to ten players in stoppage time. Joey Till and Billy Bude clashed heads late on, and whilst the pair was on the ground, and whilst Till got straight back up, Bude was left with out cold on the pitch. Incensed by the nature of the collision, Bude's team mate Udney Wade confronted Till, and slapped him as the pair squared off, resulting in the referee showing the Steerswick City centre-back the red card just moments before the full time whistle.
Natopia vs. Greater Sangun
North Antarctic Domain vs. New BataviaReigning champions Natopia began their campaign against a Greater Sangun side who frustrated their opponents during the first half. Natopia were limited in chances, but managed to take the only real one to come their way, when Maximillian Rodriguez managed to turn a loose ball in the box home with a powerful strike. Greater Sangun responded after the break, with Sakon Takahagi heading home at the back post to equalise off of Koji Nanahara's cross, but it was to be Natopia who would have the last laugh, with Watson Tempest's cool finish and Cedric Alexander's header from a corner providing a winning title defence for the Natopians.Spoiler!
New Batavia made their tournament debut against a North Antarctic Domain side fresh off of the back of their maiden World Cup appearance. And it was the defences who were on top in Doğanşahiye, as the first half failed to provide a single shot on goal, as both sets of defences managed to do their jobs for the first 45 minutes. In the second period things lightened up, with the NAD seeing both Kazim El Sharaaway and Djeja Haifa-Bogdani fire efforts at Micael Zand, however it was Jonny de Rhyn for their opponents who managed to find the breakthrough, with Peter Harbers' through ball playing in de Rhyn, who slotted his effort past the keeper at his near post for the games' only goal.Spoiler!

Group A
Sainkt Ludwigshafen vs. Calbion
New Batavia vs. Greater Sangun
Sainkt Ludwigshafen vs. Calbion
Hazar vs. SteerswickAfter both Group A encounters produced draws on the opening day, both sides came into this match looking to gain a win to establish some momentum in the group. And it was the Calbain who were able to do just that, with Llewelyn Wyn-Jones firing home after just ten minutes following some early attacking pressure from his side. The dragons were able to double their lead fifteen minutes later when the ball fell to Cedric Ross in the area, with the Ostville Wednesday man firing low to give Calbion a significant foothold on the game. Sankt Ludwigshafen didn't crumble though and defended resolutely, but never looked like getting back into the match themselves, with Joey Till going closest with a tame shot on goal from the edge of the box midway through the second period, as Calbion put one foot into the semi-finals.Spoiler!
Group BHosts Hazar came up against an energised Steerswick side that was missing defender Udney Wade through suspension, but had come off the back of an impressive come back display against Sankt Ludwigshafen in the opener. But it was the hosts who would have the better of proceedings early on, and Tahir Bælbæyojk broke the deadlock with a sharp header at the back post after Steerswick made a mess of dealing with Kawab Hocæzæde's cross. The hosts doubled their lead towards the end of the half as Çengiz Tahir spun his man before sliding the ball into the bottom right corner, but Steerswick made things awkward by halving the deficit on the stroke of half time, with Jago Hellier lashing the ball home after Hazar's defence was caught napping. Things would get even better for Steerswick in the second half, when Jason Gummow reacted fastest after Akçay Dilmen dropped Diego Madron's effort, but it would ultimately unravel, as substitute Onur Kuşcu used his blistering pace to get in one-on-one, then sit the keeper down with a fake shot and slotting the ball into an empty net, before a blistering few minutes for Hazar saw them add two further goals. Firstly, Mike Penkivel made a mess of what should have been an easy catch off of Emrecan Simitoğlu's pot shot from the edge of the box, before just 51 seconds later, George Stratton underhit a backpass to Penkivel which Kuşcu was able to intercept, before laying off Tahir for a tap in. The final score was harsh on a Steerswick side that played well, but ultimately several defensive mistakes proved too costly.Spoiler!
New Batavia vs. Greater Sangun
Natopia vs. North Antarctic DomainIn a classic example of two sides cancelling each other out, neither New Batavia nor Greater Sangun could muster much in a match which saw little to cheer for either side. Taro Kawada hit the post with a header for Sangun half way through the first period, but a couple of long range shots was all either could manage in the second half, as errant passes and strong marking prevented much in the way of goalmouth action.Spoiler!
Natopia qualified for the semi-finals with a laboured win over the North Antarctic Domain. Having been denied in the first half by some good goalkeeping from Zakr Darzi, the Kealb stopper was finally beaten ten minutes into the second half, as Penley Hook rose highest in the box at a corner to nod the ball into the roof of the net, before Sanjé Defede could only divert a Jimmy Cole cross into his own net. The Bassarid nation did almost pull a goal back late on, with Kazim El Sharaaway clipping a header onto the bar, but is was all in vain as the Domain were eliminated with a game to spare.Spoiler!

Group A
Sankt Ludwigshafen vs. Hazar
Group A
New Batavia vs. Natopia
Sankt Ludwigshafen vs. Hazar
Calbion vs. SteerswickSankt Ludwigshafen knew that anything other than a handsome victory would seal their elimination, whilst Hazar fans would have one eye on proceedings in the group's other game as they sought to establish whether they could finish top of the group. Initially, the hosts started stronger, with Tahir Bælbæyojk looking dangers, hitting post twice in the first 20 minutes before drilling a low shot that a lunging Çengiz Tahir couldn't quite meet at the back post to turn home. Sankt Ludwigshafen rode the early pressure, but struggled to make inroads at the other end, with the Hazarese defence comfortable dealing with what they threw at them. In the second half, it was all Hazar though, who sought to find a winner to take them to the top of their group. Onur Kuşcu was brought on to boost the chances of that happening, but his best chance flew over the crossbar after making himself some shooting room on the egde of the box. Ultimately, the game ended in the way neither side would have wanted, but the result does at least see the host nation progress through to the semi-finals.Spoiler!
Despite playing some exciting football, Steerswick also came into the final day needing a big win, whilst Calbion were looking to top the group, with both sides reliant on scores in the other game also going their way. But it was Calbion who started brighter, with Llewelyn Wyn-Jones forcing Mike Penkivel into a save in the first 30 seconds, before Owen Baine headed over from the resulting corner. The bright Calbain start was solidified after twelve minutes when Wyn-Jones forced Penkivel into another good save, but this time the ball fell kindly for Liam Morgan, who slammed the ball into the top left corner to give his side the lead. Calbion could've had more, but Penkivel pulled off some more brilliant saves to keep his team in the game.Spoiler!
The second half saw Steerswick grow back into the game, and were unlucky to have Jago Hellier's equalising goal ruled offside by the linesman, though the video replay showed that he had only narrowly mistimed his run. Steerswick increased the pressure, with Clovis Clotworthy and Tom Ventongimps forcing Evan Dexter into a few important saves. However, it was Calbion who would have the last laugh, as late on Jason Gummow's loose ball was picked up by Cedric Ross in the middle of the pitch, who launched a ball over the top for substitute Josh Huw to chase, with the Pentyre Dragons forward managing to beat Penkivel in the foot race to reach the ball, and was able to dink the ball over his opponent to seal Calbion's spot on top of the group.
Group A
New Batavia vs. Natopia
Greater Sangun vs. North Antarctic DomainNew Batavia knew that a point from their final game against an already qualified Natopia would see them through, however the Natopians were also looking to seal their spot as the group winners by avoiding defeat. In a game that had a nil-nil draw written all over it, the first half an hour panned out much as you would expect, with both sides looking uninterested and both defences snuffling out the odd flicker of a promise of a chance before it could bare any fruits. However, that pattern was ripped up with just ten minutes to go, when Maximillian Rodriguez found some space to run into down the flank, before his low ball in was awkwardly deflected through the penalty area by virtue of a mis-kick from Axel Wesley, with the ball falling slightly behind the onrushing Kyle Coady-Creggs, but the Hazelwood man was able to hook the ball through his own legs as he slipped, with the ball bouncing before jumping over the diving Micael Zand who was unable to do anything to prevent the ball from looping in and giving Natopia the lead, as a bemused Coady-Creggs was met with the admiration of his teammates, having initially tried to just turn the ball back into the 6 yard box.Spoiler!
That goal saw New Batavia come out to try and snatch an equaliser, however they never really looked like challenging the Natopians. They failed to pile up bodies until the very end of the match, by which point it was too late, and on the stroke of the full time whistle, Jonny de Rhyn mishit a half volley on the turn into the stands, signalling the end of New Batavia's first foray into tournament football.
With the North Antarctic Domain already eliminated, Greater Sangun knew that they needed a win, coupled with a favour from Natopia, to have any chance of progressing. But they decided on concentrating on their own performance, and in the opening stages of the game, that tactic paid dividends, with Daisuke Saeki finding space on the edge of the area, before stabbing the ball through to Kazuhiro Kiriyama, who managed to flick the ball into the bottom left corner past the keeper to give his side the lead after just 83 seconds. The Mondosphere nation continued to press, and Kiriyama was unlucky not to have scored a second, with a shot from the egde of the box cannoning back off of the crossbar. Sangun would go into the break with a two goal lead, with Koji Nanahara slotting home at the back post after Sakon Takahagi was denied from close range following a corner kick routine.Spoiler!
With scores elsewhere going their way, Sangun continued to press, and were awarded a penalty on the hour mark when Makoun Makwandire was adjudged to have blocked Koji Nanahara's cross. However, Takahagi's effort was saved by Zakr Darzi. However it was not to matter anyway, as Greater Sangun held onto their win, and with results elsewhere going their way, they booked a spot in the semi-finals by virtue of goals scored.

Semi-finals
Calbion vs. Greater Sangun
Calbion vs. Greater Sangun
Natopia vs. HazarCalbion and Greater Sangun met in Nevişahsınamünhasır to determine the who would book their place in the CiboTap finals. But despite a good first period from Greater Sangun, who went close early on when Sakon Takahagi's shot on the turn required a smart save from Evan Dexter, it was Calbion who would draw the first blood, when Owen Baine won the ball in the midfield before a darting run saw him get to the edge of the box, before slamming a shot into the bottom left corner from just inside the penalty area on the stroke of half-time. That goal evidently affected the Sangunese team, and in the second half, Calbion put in a commanding display to extend their lead. Firstly, Miles Moreland was on hand at the back post to turn home a loose ball following some good play from Liam Morgan to loose his man in the box, before Baine got his second by getting on the end of a brilliant cross, again from Morgan. Ultimately it was a mountain to high to climb for Sangun, who had no response, as Calbion can now look forward to the final.Spoiler!
Reigning champions Natopia faced off against hosts Hazar in Karadeniz, with the hosts backed by a fervent crowd. However, it was a disastrous start for Hazar, who struggled to gain possession and found themselves behind within 25 minutes, with Watson Tempest taking full advantage of some slack defending to burst through the gaps in defence and dink a finish over the onrushing Akçay Dilmen. Hazar eventually found their groove in the second period, and were perhaps unlucky not to level when Ilkay Tisu-Em-Abojk's looping header was cleared off of the line by Penley Hook. But late on the hosts were able to snatch an equaliser, with substitute Onur Kuşcu managing to get a touch on a free-kick that whipped into the box and divert the ball into the bottom corner.Spoiler!
The level score produced extra time, but these thirty minutes saw tempers flare. Hazar were incensed by the referee's failure to send off Natopia's Rhys Miller for a late tackle on Ætaňur Chanojk, which saw a several players square off with each other, and resulted in a member of Hazar's coaching stuff being sent to the stands for his remonstrations, as well as both İsa Esir and İsa Yılmaz picking up yellow cards for their protests, alongside Miller for the original challenge. But the game was to continue without much of a chance at either end, providing for a penalty shoot out, which after both sides had converted four penalties each, Christophe von Bagelberry tucked home his spot kick to put all the pressure on Okan Yaylalar, but the Karadenizspor man couldn't convert in his club's stadium, and thus consigned Hazar to elimination from their home tournament.
Re: CiboTap 2022
Third Place Play-off
Greater Sangun vs. Hazar
Calbion vs. Natopia
Greater Sangun vs. Hazar
FinalHazar came into the third place play-off looking to restore some pride after their penalty defeat to Natopia in the semi-finals, whilst Greater Sangun were eager to better their best ever finishing place of fourth at these finals, that they had previously recorded in 2014. But it was the host nation who started brighter, and they were ahead within a quarter of an hour, with defender Bünyamin Menin rising highest in the box following a corner, with the Westlake Albion man nodding the ball into the net. The hosts then started to dominate play, and doubled their lead shortly after the half hour mark, with Tahir Bælbæyojk drilling a low shot past Koji Kayakeshi. Sakon Takahagi did pull a goal back for Greater Sangun following the restart, reacting quickest to a loose ball following a melee in the Hazarese penalty box, but substitute Veli Kızılbaş's right boot hooked a third for the host nation following a brilliant cross from He-Pthah-Esis Pihorojk.Spoiler!
Calbion vs. Natopia
Calbion came into their first ever major tournament final hoping to defeat the reigning champions Natopia, who were eager to add a third CiboTap trophy to their trophy cabinet, in somewhat of a politically charged game. The atmosphere was electric at the 14 June Stadium in Hazar City, as both sets of supporters flew their nation's colours with great fervour. As the match began, the two teams looked even, with both coming close to hitting the target. First, Watson Tempest headed a cross narrowly over the crossbar, before Owen Baine struck the woodwork with a low shot from the edge of the box. Despite the political background of the game, both sides played the game in the right spirit, looking to play attacking football rather than sit deep or throw in a series of harsh tackles. But the two teams could provide nothing in the first half to separate them.Spoiler!
The second half though, brought changes to proceedings, within two minutes, Calbion broke down the wing, with Miles Moreland finding himself in plenty of space, before whipping in a brilliant ball which Llewelyn Wyn-Jones was able to get on the end of and poke home to put his side infront. Calbion's goal shocked Natopia, who looked like they were still in the dressing room, at least mentally, as Calbion began to turn up the pressure. They would have fell further behind, were it not for some magnificent saves by Matthew Fathersome. With about 20 minutes left, Natopia brought on some more attackers as they chased an equaliser, but Calbion now looked robust, themselves sending on extra defenders in an attempt to see out the match. The best chance came four minutes from time, when Cedric Alexander stabbed a through ball that split the Calbion defence, only for Evan Dexter to deny Ilyas Chowdhury with a sprawling save to his right. But whilst Natopia kept on turning the screw, Calbion held up, and when the referee blew his final whistle, their players, coaches and substitute all lept onto the field in glee, finally able to celebrate a first ever major tournament trophy title.
