KB fans riot as Senyan football suffers embarrassment
For anyone who missed the start of proceedings at Charmines Stadium in Vanie this evening, would perhaps of found themselves bewildered at their television screens, or even believed that there was some sort of error with the scoreline as they read the top left corner of their sets. "MINEURS 3 KATEKI BLAVISEN 0". Yet the score was correct. In just ten minutes, KB fell foul of Senyan football's most humiliating moment.
Firstly, Adriel Ramos waltzed through the defence with just 25 seconds on the clock to give the Oportians a shock lead, before teammate Ernest Girard doubled proceedings just three minutes later. Another Ramos shot cannoned in, first off of the post and then off of the back of the leg of the unfortunate Maksim Ĵerzënyœ to give Mineurs an unbelievable start. The headlines were already being written as Tellian forward Armando Uggè headed home to make the score 3-1. And despite KB fighting back to lead 4-3 with just under twenty minutes to go, a final flurry of Mineurs pressure saw the hosts snatch two late goals and the top spot in AEFA CL Group B.
This was a result that was never meant to happen. KB were supposed to be the big fish about to walk away with the Group's top spot. The matches against Mineurs, and fellow Group members Virtus Glovetese and SC Driftwood should've been exhibtion matches, a chance for KB to experiment and for their Oportian, Vegnese and Alriggian opponents to have a nice day out. And yet, KB, despite still being in second in the group have never looked comfortable.
Against Driftwood they failed to keep a clean sheet, before going 2-0 down in Vegno. Tonight's double capitulation places even more pressure on boss Aristotil Vigarœa. An inconsistent start to the league has left KB 8th and seven points off the leaders with just a quarter of the season gone. And yet, the worst of it all, despite retaining much of the same squad, the ruthless arrogance of a team that won last year's Kopa Sanya, two continental cup trophies and two consecutive league titles has completely evaporated.
But it's not just KB. In Bergdorf, Borussia were slammed 6-0 by Florian super club Northcliff United. Sure, Bergdorf are one of the favourites to go down, but the way the team keeled over tonight will concern many.
Even amongst the teams that did win tonight, the performances were less than impressive. Park Prinsipa sat on an early go to beat Newhaven 1-0. FK Tiga's 5-0 win came against an amateur team. And whilst both KLT and JR have already booked their places in the FMF CL's last 16, Urzi find themselves in a scrap to avoid a surprise elimination, having only beaten Osktravan whipping boys Dukla Požun in their group so far.
The crux of the question will be where has this lack of performance on the continent come from? Sure, if Senyan clubs are to follow the usual script, there will be a turn around of form and we'll be sitting here in 6 months time with 3 finalists. But, given the starts so far in this CL, nothing can be guaranteed.
KB fans were seen rioting in Vanie after the match, in scenes echoing 2015 when Gotzborg clubs locked out the AEFA CL final.
