Oportia vs. Vegno friendly (21/12)
*Played 21st December*
Oportia 1-2 Vegno
6' - C. Obea
78' - R. Bonotto
85' - P. Vassena
Oportia played host to Vegno for their first ever international match as they began their preparations for qualifying in the middle of their domestic season's winter break. A rapid start for Oportia saw them score a first goal through a powerful Chee Obea header from Dany Duhamel's cross inside on the overlap. Despite their greater experience having played a number of matches already, Vegno were on the back foot for the majority of the game, with home support for Oportia buoying the side, and it took until after half time for the visitors' first recorded shot on target. However, as the match entered its final stages, the Vegnese rallied and hit the home team with a double to turn things on their head. Rosario Bonotto broke through a tackle to run through one-on-one and score past Gérôme Darche by sending the stopper the wrong way with a feint before Paolo Vassena's strike seven minutes later completed the turnaround. Vassena was on hand to hit the ball home from the middle of the box after an attack that saw Bonotto play in sub Nicolò Gualtieri, who assisted Vassena with a slight touch inside that evaded Obi Emeka's challenge to allow the Vegnese captain the chance to find the net. An entertaining encounter between two teams whose chances of making next summer's World Cup may not be the strongest but whose fans will be cheering them all the way through their respective attempts to reach Mercury.
