2012 Benacia Cup
Re: 2012 Benacia Cup
JOURNALISTS TOLD TO KEEP CLEAR OF RIVAL MATCH
Senyan reporters have been told to not attend the Tellia-Ashkenatza game after reports of ethnic violence in the Sanillan capital between Ashkenatzi and Tellian fans. Upto 100 Senyan journalists are in Sanilla reporting on the Benacia Cup, but many were fearing for their lives after violence flared up last night. One cameraman was hit by an object thrown by a hooligan and was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for deep cuts to arms and face. Senya TV has also announced that its pitch side position at the match will not be used. Instead, all Journalists are being moved to cover Group A's game between Batavia & Elwynn.
However, Senya TV will still broadcast the match, but will use its studio in Svorgas and TV stream from Shirerothian Television instead.

We can hope that this violence doesn't spill over into the actual game. I hope the referee will take the appropriate action if anything flares up.

Re: 2012 Benacia Cup
*Played 16th August*
Group A
Group A
Group BBatavia 2-0 Elwynn
22' - J. van Veen
27' - P. Leefma
Batavia took a large step towards the Benacia Cup final in their first match, comfortably beating Elwynn, who can know only hope Sanilla lose heavily to Batavia to have any chance of making the third-place play-off. Batavia scored their two goals in a fast-paced five minutes midway through the first half. Jeroen van Veen's pace was too much for Amir Arminzadeh and the HóC forward almost strolled into the box unchallenged before putting the ball through the legs of the outrushing Folki Öldrikkari. Before the Elwynnese had the time to respond to gong behind, Batavia scored again; Pieter Leefma's tricky footwork outfoxed Johanns Raun Oðð and the midfield star played the ball easily past Öldrikkari with a calm sidefoot and in. Jowi Bach had the chance to make it three before half time, but hit the post from distance. Yngvi Miskjalendzki went closest for Elwynn, at the start of the second half, but Tom Meessen was equal to his low shot. Van Veen and Jan Mioch had solid chances for Batavia, but Öldrikkari managed to successfully close them down and kept them out, leaving the final score as 2-0 with Batavia only needing a draw against hosts Sanilla to make the final.
Ashkenatza 2-3 Tellia
9' - G. Salmoiraghi
26' - F. Diamo
41' - M. Zajc
69' - F. Bruno
84' - F. Bruno
Tellia fought-off an Ashkenatza comeback in the second half to put one foot in the first ever Benacia Cup final. In a match where the build-up was marred by scenes of trouble in the Sanillan capital, the match didn't disappoint in terms of excitement and fortunately no antisemitic chanting was reported. Tellia came out of the blocks sprinting, and the worry and tension of any trouble flaring-up was immediately dismissed, with Gianluca Salmoiraghi hitting the target before ten minutes were played. The BäJ man was played in well by Marko Zajc and poked the ball over the closing Ben Szhmuel's leg to score. The World Cup winners' lead was doubled 15 minutes later through Frederico Diamo. The central midfielder, brought into the starting line-up due to Isaac Mahler's dropping-out, found the back of the net with a well-placed free-kick over the wall and into the bottom-right corner after Salmoiraghi had been fouled by Paul Epstein. Before the break, Tellia were three-up and the win was almost guaranteed. Marko Zajc, after setting-up the opener, was the one to finish the move started by Diamo. The Ocian-born midfielder outplayed Epstein and Vladek Rabinowicz with some clever footwork before curling the ball into the far corner with the outside of his boot from a tight angle. Ashkenatza tried to form a comeback after half time, and star forward Frenkel Bruno forced his way into goalscoring positions to pull two goals back. Firstly, the youngster outmuscled Marco Schiavvi with a run in and smacked the ball low and hard past Di Maggio, before bustling his way into a good position to head home from Emil Garinov's in-swinging corner. However, Bruno and his teammates couldn't create an further opportunities and must now win a very tough game against Shireroth to have any chance of making the third-place play-off.

MORE VIOLENCE FOLLOWING BENACIA CUP CLASH AS FAN STABBED OUTSIDE STADIUM
It seemed as if last night's Benacia Cup rivalry match between Ashkenatza and Tellia seemed to go smoothly. Inside the stadium, security was tight, fans were separated and there seemed no evidence of any form of violence or discriminative chanting by either set of fans.
That was until the match finished and as fans headed towards the exits, chaos caused havoc again. With an earlier incident during the week in the centre of Sanillan capital Mortis Mercatoria, the Sanillan police decided to arrest several fans, sending them back home to their respective countries.
And it doesn't seem that tension has settled. Following the exits from the stadiums, both set of supporters once again confronted each other, leading to another riot. This time, flares were exchanged from both sides, as well as other items being rocketed at each other. Once again, police intervened, sending a riot squad, making yet more arrests.
Once again, 5 people were admitted into hospital, with one fan receiving a knife wound after being stabbed in the incident. His status is reported to be serious, but not life threatening, although it has just summed up the events that have occurred off the pitch for the last two days.
Tellian TV reporters had to hide behind cars, whilst Incontinentian broadcasters TiVi2 remained on the pitch until further notice. Police also held both teams in the changing rooms for 3 hours to avoid confrontation with the fans, with both sets of teams having to wait until police neutralised the area. Both teams had to be escorted back to their hotels by security services, indicating the hostile atmosphere over the past week.
Tellian captain Sezer Özker has hit out at the fans, blasting the whole riot as a "disgrace". Speaking to the Tellian press in a conference this morning, the 21 year old urged fans to "behave themselves" and don't take unnecessary action. "This is a football tournament and we are the World Cup holders. I think on the pitch we can speak for ourselves, but everything that is happening off the pitch, what can we do? It's not our fault - it's the fans. And they are not doing the right thing. What happened all the respect and fair play? If it applies on the pitch, it should off the pitch too. You cannot blame the police here for the riots, they are doing an incredible job. It's the fans that take a look at themselves and consider their actions. I don't think these people should even be allowed to attend matches...ever."
Özker, who now plays his football in Hamland for FC Garrak, has previously experienced hostile receptions in the past when playing for Romero due to his non ethnic Tellian background, but has never encountered anything similar outside the nation. The 21 year old now captains the national side and is the only captain to have lifted the World Cup for the nation with a rich footballing history.
It isn't the first time we have seen controversy from a Tellian perspective. In 2008, following their 9-1 controversial loss to Greenuk, the Tellian fans once again took irresponsible action after being disgraced with the result, which included a pitch invasion and sit-in protest following the 90 minutes. It is believed that the FMF will be reviewing the events during the tournament after the final, with the FGGC also expected to launch their own investigation.

FEDERAL PUBLIC SAFETY AGENCY
PRESS RELEASE
Due to the nature of the riots in our nation's capital, with the main rioters being foreign citizens, the Federal Public Safety Agency has assumed operational command of all public safety matters in relation to the Benacia Cup. The following is a brief statement regarding the aftermath of the incident after the Ashkenatza-Tellia game, as well as preparations for upcoming games.
The FPSA categorizes the rioting as a federal offense. After the first incident of rioting, the Sanillan authorities decided to deport those arrested, which is common practice in these circumstances. After this second incident, the Sanillan authorities will take a hard-line approach to any further rioting, including this incident. Each person arrested for rioting, from August 16 until the conclusion of the Benacia Cup, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of federal law. The FPSA has initiated a preliminary investigation regarding attempted murder regarding the stabbing of a fan on Wednesday, and also arrested a suspect on clear suspicion of having perpetrated the act.
From now until the end of the Benacia Cup, domestic security forces will assist local and federal police in keeping public order in our three main cities, and any further rioting will be met with firm, sufficient and lawful force.

3 Players Withdraw from Shireroth-Ashkenatza match
Following the rioting events that have been witnessed over the last few days, 3 players from the Shirerithian national team have withdrawn from the line-up in fears of further discrimination against possible Ashkenatzi fans.
Matthew Castaraghi, Alexander Bonero and Vernon Cristaldo have all handed in their requests to sit the game out, in a similar fashion to the likes of Haskel Bernstein and Isaac Mahler in the Tellian-Ashkenatza match. The trio all have Tellian/Gaian ancestry and following the scenes of violence in the streets and outside the stadium, the three have ruled out playing due to the potential risks of being targeted by Ashkenatzi fans.
Both Castaraghi (who also happens to be Shirerithian vice-captain) and Bonero, products of the Tellian football system have expressed their discontent of fans behaviours, stating that politics should be kept away from the sport.
Castaraghi, who graduated from FC Fiorecittà's academy, said "The scenes we have seen in the last week have been beyond disgraceful. This is just an example of why political conflict should never be involved in the sport or else actions like this happen. The reaction of the fans has not been good and we have seen police getting involved. It's a real shame."
Bonero, who previously played for Vecchicittà added, "Whilst in our eyes we are Shirerithian, I still feel that part of my heart lies in Tellia as due to my heritage and Tellia being the place that allowed me to grow as the footballer I am today."
It is unknown how the Shirerithian team will respond, and what will happen to the line up of the team, but here's how the team could potentially look in their match against Ashkenatza:
4-3-3

Re: 2012 Benacia Cup
Okay, didn't see this until now, but Vernon Cristaldo is Sanillan and has been playing for Sanilla since we got our own team. I picked him in the Sanillan squad for the Benacia Cup, and missed that he was also picked in the Shirerithian squad. Could you please explain to me how you managed that? I've discussed my players repeatedly with Craitman and he's never said anything.

Re: 2012 Benacia Cup
Completely didn't notice Cristaldo'd been picked for Shireroth in this. But yeah, he chose to represent Sanilla after not being in the Shirerithian World Cup squad the last I heard, so is Sanillan now...

Sorry we didn't pick up on the error on him being picked by two squads as Craitman said (this calls for migrating as much stuff to MicrasWiki IMO)

Group A
Group A
Group BSanilla 2-2 Batavia
11' - H. de Boer
20' - J. van Veen
40' - S. Bale
90' - P. Gjanocca
Batavia let a two-goal lead slip against hosts Sanilla, but still ended-up making the final after drawing their last group match. With Sanilla hoping for a win against a more experienced team, their chances of making the final were dented before the match could even get going as the Batavians scored after only ten minutes gone. Midfielder Hendrik de Boer scored his first ever tournament goal after finishing-off a move which the Sanillan defence had troubled keeping-up with. Pieter Leefma was integral to the move, playing Jowi Bach in deep down the left side before having the ball laid back to Alejandro Hodzelmans up from left-back. Hodzelmans' cross in was met by Jeroen van Veen, who glanced the ball onwards to the right flank where De Boer was there. After turning-in with his first touch, the 29 year-old hit the ball straight and true past Taki Tolâso. Less than ten minutes later, Batavia had doubled their lead. Leefma again played his part, chipping the ball into the box where Van Veen's head once again made contact. Despite heading the ball at the target, it was blocked by ʻEli Linûti, but Van Veen reacted quickest and toe-poked into the bottom-left corner after Tolâso had dived the opposite way to try and save the first attempt. For the remainder of the half, Batavia had the lion's share of possession, but conceded five minutes before the break. Sylvester Bale, playing more as a loan striker for this match, was assisted by Craitish-based Mariolino Sonetti and James Hatfield, who combined down the left, with the latter swinging in the cross which Bale headed home unmarked from seven yards out. After half time, the hosts were by far the superior team, bossing midfield, but Bale upfront was found wanting, being outnumbered by the Batavian defence during attacks. Vernon Cristaldo's long-range effort forced a save from Tom Meessen and Van Veen almost added a third for Batavia, but dragged his attempt wide. However, with the match going into injury time, Sanilla made their dominance count. Bale decided to drop-back during a move and got the ball from Sonetti before picking-out Petro Gjanocca's dash forward. The youngster took the ball on the chest, let it drop, and snap-volleyed the ball into the top-left corner across the face of Meessen to level the match up. In the end, the result didn't matter for Batavia, as they reached the final, but the Sanillans will love the way they bounced-back against a tough Batavia side and will take heart as they head into the third-place play-off.
Shireroth 2-1 Ashkenatza
34' - M. Darezewicz
59' - J. Viðarsson
64' - J. Akwá
Shireroth came from behind to beat a spirited Ashkenatza team, but their win was in vain as Tellia advanced to the final on goal difference. Ashkenatza took the lead with just over half an hour gone through Maurycy Darezewicz, with the central midfielder heading in accurately from the edge of the area on the end of Emil Garinov's outswinging corner, looping the ball high past Frederico. Despite the Ashkenatzi going-in to the break ahead, Shireroth were the better team in the second 45. Jóhan Viðarsson scored with a well-placed side-footed shot into the top-right corner from inside the box after Kurt Lamberti's run in was halted by Paul Epstein, with the ball slipping free. Within five minutes, Shireroth went ahead and that's how it stayed. Lamberti again surged forward but played the ball to the right, where Jalal Akwá was waiting to sneak the ball in despite Ben Szhmuel almost diverting it wide. The 'keeper's shinned deflection could only direct the ball inside the near post rather than out for a corner. Shireroth tried to add to their lead as the game progressed, but Szhmuel's reflexes were in better form and kept Akwá and Lamberti at bay. With a 2-1 victory, the Shirerithians sealed their place in the third-place play-off against neighbours Sanilla, but were pipped to the final by Tellia by virtue of goals scored.

Third-place play-off
Sanilla 1-2 Shireroth
21' - K. Lamberti
35' - M. Sonetti
46' - D. James (o.g.)
A defensive mishap by Daniel James was all that separated these two local rivals in the third-place play-off, leaving hosts Sanilla finishing fourth in their first ever tournament. Shireroth came into the match favourites, and their players' experience showed through in the first half an hour, and Kurt Lamberti scored just after twenty with a scruffy finish. The forward was put through one-on-one with Taki Tolâso by Jóhann Viðarsson, and his outstretched leg nicked the ball against the chest of Tolâso, but the ball rebounded back and hit Lamberti's shin before rolling slowly over the line with the 'keeper helpless. However, Sanilla pulled an equaliser back ten minutes before the break through Mariolino Sonetti. Lamberti's Sverige Tiem teammate evaded the Shirerithian offside trap and raced-on to Nishi Kilihi's chipped ball through, controlling with the outside of his boot before unleashing into the bottom-right corner with a swerved shot. Frederico dived close, but couldn't make contact. Shireroth went ahead straight after the second half started, with the worst misfortune falling on Daniel James and Tolâso. Lamberti and Jalal Akwá kicked-off and the former unleashed an unbelievable strike immediately. The ball glided forward, with centre-back James backpeddling with the aim to head clear, but the defender was given a shout by Tolâso, who had come to meet it. The ball, however, dropped more than expected, skimming off the back of James' head, down and past Tolâso's left leg and bouncing into the goal. A majorly unfortunate piece of miscommunication had put the hosts behind again, but this time they couldn't find a leveller. Although Sonetti and substitute Sylvester Bale rained shots on goal in the final 25 minutes, only three hit the target, with Frederico comfortably palming them away from the net to retain the lead. Shireroth had a genuine chance to make it three with four minutes to go, but Lamberti scuppered a close-range shot by taking too long to unleash an effort and had the ball deflected away by James looking to make-up for his earlier error. In the end, Shireroth hung-on and celebrated finishing third as the Sanillans comforted a distraught Daniel James, but will surely look back on this as a successful first tournament in the years to come.
