Craitland: Superstar Gaärsen comes-out

Ahead of tomorrow's World Cup qualifying opener against Tiana, star striker Freddie Gaärsen has taken the huge step of becoming the first Micrasian footballer to openly announce he is gay.

Gaärsen said of the situation; "It has taken me a long time to consider the best way to announce my sexuality. I have known for a very long time and, in fact, the majority of my Cherry Trees teammates are already aware I'm gay, but I have always found it difficult to tell anyone else. I know that Craitish society is highly accepting, and I know I would find no problems here, but there was always a high risk that my coming-out would cause there to be abuse when playing in less-liberal nations."

However, Gaärsen has overcome this worry after speaking to ex-international striking partner Paul Óma-ó-Täó, who announced his diagnosis of stomach cancer a matter of days ago. "I spoke to Paul over the weekend and his situation has really put mine into perspective. While I'm uneasy about any possible insults that could be thrown at me by narrow-minded nobodies, one of my closest footballing friends is battling against something which could genuinely threaten his life - that's just something which shows how futile my worrying has been. So after thinking everything over, and gaining Paul's support, I realised there really was nothing stopping me, apart from me, from opening-up."

Following this news, Gaärsen admitted that he will now inevitably get a lot of attention from LGBT organisations for his backing but said that his main priority is to continue his career as usual, adding that his coming-out should not affect how he approaches things. Whether or not he'll be involved in such things in the future is something we shall have to see. What we do know, however, is that Gaärsen's newly-public sexuality should cause quite a ripple throughout Micrasian football, hopefully giving other gay players a platform through which to also come-out.

How come stupid little people assume that all gay men fancy all men, regardless? It is common knowledge that as soon as a gay man enters the locker room, buggery and assplay will ensue. And what is unnatural about it? First of all, sexual orientation is not a choice. Second, many other animal species have homosexual individuals. And even if it was a choice, which it isn't, how the fuck is it any of your business and what gives you the right to judge?
