2013 FMF Awards
Well, it's been another action packed year for FMF. We've witnessed a lot of footballing firsts across Micras in the past 12 months, with Hamland winning their first ever World Cup, defeating Mercury in a repeat of last year's EMU final. Hurmu took their first ever piece of silverware, by defeating previous holders Novatainia 1-0. In the CiboTap Championships, World Cup hosts Zandarijn were defeated 3-1 by three-time winners Alexandria, their first ever defeat in a final. In the EMUs, Interland won their first trophy by securing a narrow 1-0 victory against Hamland, while in the Benacia Cup, Tellia defeated Sanilla 2-1 in extra time. Three nations qualified for the World Cup for the first time this year, Hammish Monovia as hosts, North Antarctica, who put in a very respectable performance, reaching the quarter finals, and Nova English Korea, who finished bottom of their group on goal difference.
In club football, Aurelius Academics won the AEFA Champions' League, defeating NAPI's SC Antarctica on penalties. AFC Hamstadt avenged last year's defeat in the CTFA Champions' League final, by defeating Franciscania Athletic 2-0. It wasn't just Interland's national side earning all the glory, as Abramovice FC beat Morfaga North Rangers in the EMUFA Champions' League final for their first title. Vecchiacittà Calcio took the WMFA crown, as they won 2-0 against Elwynn's Farvælska Itrottarlagið. All eight of these finalists then qualified for the FMF Champions' League, where Morfaga North Rangers came out on top, but it took extra time to see off Tellian challengers Vecchiacittà.
It's been a great year of football, let's hope the next can be even better. Now the bit we've all been waiting for, the awards. This year, it's not just about the players. It's also about the people working behind the scenes to makes sure the game goes ahead every week.
Please nominate for as many categories as you choose using the form below, and give the reasoning behind each nomination:
The Nominations will be considered by the FMF Executive Committee. The final awards will be reviewed and published between 30th-31st January 2013. So in that case, LET THE NOMINATIONS BEGIN!

Player Awards
Goalkeeper of the Year: Rodney MacLeod (HAM) put in a fantastic display at the World Cup, pulling off some world class saves to help his side to their first ever victory.
Defender of the Year:
Midfielder of the Year: Wilmont Fizeau-Blake (MER) has had a brilliant year for club and country, first captaining Cook Island to their first Mercury FA Cup, before putting in some top-class displays for Mercury on his way to the World Cup final, even bagging a goal on the way.
Striker of the Year: Andrew Miller (HAM) pipped Mercury's Joe Foxon to the post in the race for the Golden Boot with his World Cup winning goal.
Young Player of the Year: Midfielder Andrew Young (NAP) didn't manage to win anything internationally this year, but managed to get a goal in the World Cup, and commanded his side's midfield very well.
Team of the Year (two more players for each position)
Hidden gem of the year (a player who only won their first cap this year): Stephen Rydberg (MER) was loaned out to BäJ, and was able to learn a few things while he was out there. On his return to Mercury, he impressed enough to earn a place in the national team.
Other Awards
Surprise of the Year: Mercury defeating Interland 5-0 on their way to the World Cup final. Nobody in Mercury expected to get past the quarter finals, especially after seeing the Group stage draw.
Best new league: Safirian Premier League. Legal troubles in Safiria saw the collapse of their football league system, but the new Premier League rose from the ashes and has proved to be successful.
Strangest moment: Craitland failing to advance past the group stages in the EMU Championships

Re: 2013 FMF Awards
Is there no award for best overall player?
I'll submit my nominations later-on, but I'll be seconding Andrew Young for young player, so you know

Re: 2013 FMF Awards
Same as last year, we choose the best player for each position, then the best overall player is one of those four.Craitman wrote:Is there no award for best overall player?

Re: 2013 FMF Awards
Goalkeeper of the Year: Rodney MacLeod (HAM) - No goals conceded at the World Cup says it all.
Defender of the Year: Daniel Hjansen (CRA) - One of the first names on both Sverige's and Craitland's team sheets, and has now well and truly superseded Jon Anders Larsen internationally.
Striker of the Year: Andrew Miller (HAM) - Superb scoring feats to head Hamland's first World Cup win, and reached his potential domestically as well.
Young Player of the Year: Andrew Young (NAP) - One of ZK's redeeming stars in their first League 1 season and will still improve.
Hidden gem of the year: Lucas Zaya (CRA) - Possibly a confusing selection given his experience, but since his Craitland début he's score five in eight (that's as good a ratio as Gaärsen!).
Surprise of the Year: Mercury 5-0 Interland, especially so soon after the latter's EMU 13 triumph.
Strangest moment: Any Senyan domestic 0-0

Midfielder of the Year: Sezer Özker (TEL) - Managed to be the best of his team and scored three times in a team that was not half of what they used to be.
Striker of the Year: Andrew Miller (HAM) - After being top scorer in the two last EMU Championships, he scored six and become top scorer in the WC as well.
Young Player of the Year: Mika Førvossen (HUR) - with 17, he was the youngest player to play in this last World Cup, and was the one who scored to level the scores with Tellia in the last 8 minutes.

Surprise of the Year: Nova English Korea classifing in EMU Championship´s Group D.

Striker of the Year: Joe Foxon (MER) - Had a fantastic world cup and impressed everybody with his contributions up top.
Young Player of the Year: Barnaby Hands (DES) - A domestic league title and runners-up medals in both the Senyan League Cup and the Kopa Sanya showed just how good this young Senyan is. His performances on the international stage have also been strong, impressing during World Cup qualifying and the Copa Apollonia
