A friendly to celebrate Truce Day between Nova England and Shireroth ended with the visitors taking a comfortable lead back to Benacia. After their last meeting almost seven years ago, which saw the Nova English run-out 7-6 winners, the hosts were expected to be favourites based on form, having already secured qualification for this summer's EMU Championships, while Shireroth crashed out of their Confederations Cup group a fortnight ago.

However, Shireroth took the game by the scruff of its neck, with the in-form Kurt Lamberti hitting two with no reply before the break. The Sverige Tiem forward bullied his way through the Nova English defence after receiving the ball from Alexander Bonero before hitting a powerful shot into the bottom-right corner early in the match, which he then followed-up on with a glancing header right before half time from Talsin Llwrran's corner. Although Nova England failed to score in the first half, Theo Sinclair and Graham Savoy were the side's main attacking outlets, with the former forcing a strong save out of Alejian du Nigrad around the half-hour mark.

The second 45 saw a more even affair, as the home team pushed on to bring themselves back into the contest, but Shireroth's back line was well organised, and few obvious chances were created until the final quarter of an hour. Lamberti's hopes of a hat-trick were spurned twice beforehand, however, as Nicholas Harfield palmed away another headed chance before the striker was substituted with an hour played. Nova England made their own changes as the match progressed, with Richard Coult joining the fray in place of centre-back Jackson Richards, and the Brabant Rovers man found the net with less than ten minutes to go after an attack which saw Sinclair's delivery into the area deflected out to Savoy, who played Coult through with a pinpoint pass that he met with an instinctive toe-poke through Du Nigrad's hands. However, Shireroth's two-goal lead was restored a matter of minutes later as Nuno Santos Gomez was found unmarked, having marauded forward for a corner, by Talsin Llwrran's set piece delivery for a cushioned header into the top-right of Harfield's net.

As the game drew to a close, the travelling fans seemed upbeat about their team's performance - a sign of expected good home support in a couple of months' time - while the home supporters will expect a little more fight when their side crosses the border into Mercury this summer, especially with being losing finalists two years ago; a result they'll hope to better this time around.
