Florian Republic vs. Tellia friendly (27/03)
*Played 27th March*
Florian Republic 0-1 Tellia
26' - A. De Laurentiis
World Cup holders Tellia squeezed a victory over the Florian Republic, on the latter's qualifying bye week, in a technical encounter in Hänävissen-ó-Cräiteland. Tellia's defensive quality was the overriding of a match in which the Florians continued to show their increasing strength as they bid for a first World Cup appearance in Birgeshir this year. Florian attacks were generally free-flowing, but struggled with that decisive ball to unlock the Tellians' back line, while Gli Verdi were notably disjointed in their own efforts to break forward despite organisation in their own half. The game's only goal came in the first half; Alessandro De Laurentiis being found lurking at the back post from a rare Tellian corner, with the left-back's instant finish finding its way inside the far post. Besides his goal, De Laurentiis was a candidate for man of the match due to his efficiency in keeping Cristiano Ramirez quiet down the flank. The Florians' gamble of starting Owen Baine after some good domestic form recently showed that he could be a danger to less organised sides throughout the remaining qualifiers, even if the experience of former fellow wonderkid Pasquale di Montezemolo gave him a tough night leading the line.
As tonight's results in their group saw a score draw between the two sides directly below them, the Florian Republic now sit five points ahead of the pack in AEFA Group D ahead of their trip to Norrland to start the second half of fixtures in a fortnight's time. Tellia, on the other hand, remain looking for further exhibition opponents between now and the summer's pre-booked trip to southern Cibola.
