Tellia vs. Senya friendly (22/05)
*Played 22nd May*
Tellia 1-4 Senya
6' - B. Hands
10' - D. Ƨarkœvič
63' - M Minyorletsken
69' - A.L. Peruzzi
77' - P. Montol
Senya's visit to Tellia in a replay of the 2017 World Cup final ended with a heavy defeat for the holders as both sides' preparations for Birgeshir this summer continue. Two early Senyan strikes buckled the Tellians; captain Barnaby Hands' well-timed run through evaded the offside trap and the winger's pace was too much for the defence to cope with, ending with a slotted shot past Simone Di Maggio. Within five minutes, with Tellia unable to recover from the initial blow, another rapid attack saw Jan Maytek bring the ball forward before laying a cutting square ball into the area for Domonik Ƨarkœvič to meet first-time with a sidefoot into the top-right corner with Di Maggio blinded by his flustered back line. As the game proceeded, Tellia remained quiet and looked a shadow of their usual selves; likely a sign of how infrequently they have played together this year in comparison to a bonded Senyan squad. It took the Senyans until after the hour mark to grab what felt like an inevitable third goal, however, with a move forward similar to their second culminating with Maytek assisting a powerful low shot from Markœ Minyorletsken which sneaked through the crowd and in. Gli Verdi drew one back soon after, against the run of play, with a rare corner being earnt and finished with a header from lofty striker Andrea Luca Peruzzi off Isaac Mahler's delivery. There was no real expectation of a comeback - unlike the teams' back-and-forth shared group game two years ago - with Peruzzi's strike, and substitute Patrik Montol put a fourth in with a quarter-hour to spare with an individual effort that saw his close control take him past Pasquale di Montezemolo before neatly placing the ball to the 'keeper's right with his left boot with enough power to beat the dive.
With the opportunity to become only the second nation to take back-to-back Micras titles later this year, Tellia's showing today indicates they have a lot of work to do before they can really look to challenge at what has been described as the most open World Cup in years. Senya, on the other hand, look in prime position to avenge their narrow final defeat on home soil in 2017; with their place already assured and a single qualifier left to play, their focus must now be on organising the top-draw opposition in further friendlies over the next month or so.
