Tellia vs. Mercury friendly (29/06)
*Played 29th June*
Tellia 1-2 Mercury
12' - W. Fizeau-Blake
66' - J. Foxon (pen.)
90' - M. Giordano
Tellia's dreadful preparations for the World Cup continued as the holders failed to take a win for the fifth match in a row. Visitors Mercury, one of this year's favourites, were rarely tested by the reigning champions, whose problems this summer show now sign of easing, and could certainly have finished with a larger lead than they registered. Wilmont Fizeau-Blake's early strike from distance, looping past the 'keeper, set the tone for the game, as Mercury created chance after chance throughout its remainder. It took until the midpoint of the second half for another to find the back of the net, however, after Addey Hanbury was fouled unnecessarily by Pasquale di Montezemolo, and Joe Foxon calmly placed the resulting spot kick into the bottom-left corner. A late Tellian consolation fell at the start of injury time due to a momentary lapse in the Mercurian defence, with young Daniel Hannerby's pass inside being intercepted by Mirko Giordano who was able to trudge forward before hitting it past Foster, but that goal flattered the scoreline somewhat.
Mercury's last warm-up falls on July 5th against 2017's other finalists Senya, while Tellia host WMFA rivals Craitland on home soil for the first time with the sides' trajectories in notably different directions on current form.
