Senya advance amidst flare protest

Senya wrapped up a place in the semi-finals of the Confederations Cup with a 2-1 win over Craitland in a game that was temporarily suspended after fans threw flares onto the pitch during the first half.

The Senyan fans had already completed one of their famous pyroshows when the teams walked out onto the field alongside a tifo depicting Senyan fans holding flares with the caption reading "Unapologetic Fanatics", but with banners protesting against the Freddie Mercury Memorial Arena's ban of pyrotechnics visable in the stands, the referee escorted the two teams off the pitch in the 15th minute and down into the tunnel when fans begun throwing flares as Senya were passing the ball around in defence. The barrage of pyrotechnics lasted about two minutes before the fire brigade began collecting the flares up, with officials waiting before the smoke around the ground started to lift before the two teams re-took the field.

Once play resumed, the Craits looked the stronger side, with Senyan based Aidan Keĵinz beating the offside trap to slot home past Sileman Bɏankarlënœ in the Senyan goal. But the hosts regrouped at the break with Alesandrœ Danetskë's winner, a low drive from 10 yards out after the ball rebounded off a defender adding to a Kiket Volinsk header to send the World Champions into the semi-finals.
