2014 FMF World Cup - official reports and broadcasts
Re: 2014 FMF World Cup - official reports and broadcasts
Senya TV Sport (ENG)'s commentary of Senya's opening goal against Interland:
"Hands, switches it over to Zvet, good touch down and the ball through to DANETSKË... [ball hits back of net] ... YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH GET IN THERE, HE'S ONLY GONE AND DONE IT. BLOODY HELL. WHAT A MOMENT FOR SENYAN FOOTBALL, AND THAT WILL GO DOWN IN THE HISTORY BOOKS... [Commentator goes to catch his breath]... It's Interland nil Senya one, and Alesandrœ Danetskë has sent the whole of Senya into ecstasy... [picture cuts to a replay of the goal] ... Hands and Zvet combining in the midfield and it's a peach of a ball onto Danetskë, who smashes the ball beyond Jan Kepp to give the Green Army the lead!"
Also, very happy with my free-kick in the second half. I don't miss many of them IRL, good to see it's translating into Micras success!

*Played 8th August*
Zandarijn 0-1 Senya
28' - G. Mena
Senya held-out to seal a narrow victory over Zandarijn to snatch a quarter-final spot at the earliest opportunity, resigning the Zandts to an early exit. Off the back of a good 2-0 victory over Interland, Senya continued their form as Zandarijn looked very much like a team that was well-defeated by Alexandria in the first match. Senya were the dominant force throughout the game, with Zandarijn unable to contain the midfield's teamwork, and Alesandrœ Danetskë was guilty of two missed chances in the first half, either side of the game's only goal. Ƨinkœ Zvet broke past Jan de Wijnen before squaring into space where Danetskë and Gatkan Mena were following-up. Both players went for it, but Mena had the final touch as the ball bobbled over the line from close.
The second half offered little difference, but with no changes to the scoresheet. Zandarijn created a chance at the start of the 45, but Sileman Bɏankarlënœ was equal to a strong shot from Chris van der Schouw. Senya's best opportunities to make it two fell to Barnaby Hands and Danetskë, but some off-target shooting disappointed. A narrow victory well-earned means Senya have a spot in the knock-out rounds guaranteed, as Zandarijn will be wanting to at least score before leaving Indokistan in their final game.
Group standings can be found here...Alexandria 3-0 Interland
21' - T. Modrem
45' - F. Lassana-Traoré (pen.)
86' - Álexis C.
Alexandria eased through the group with another impressive win, beating ten-man Interland with a triple. Les Bleus, after a four-goal thrashing of CTFA rivals Zandarijn began the Alexandrians' campaign, and their tally was swiftly added to in their second. Florent Lassana-Traoré could have scored himself, but a curled effort after being played through by d'Oliviera ricocheted off the angle of the goal frame, with Tamer Modrem beating the Interlandian defence to the rebound, sliding in to stud the loose ball into the bottom-right of the net. Interland had Jan Kepp, their reliable captain, to thank with a good palm keeping Modrem out ten minutes later. A second was found with effectively the last kick of the half, following Krzysztof Łukasz's dismissal after dangerously bringing Damián Sala down just inside the area. Lassana-Traoré confidently scored his fourth of the tournament with a sweeping finish into the bottom-left from the spot after a stuttered run-up.
Interland, showing desperation, remained with their traditional tactics despite no Łukasz, and pushed with a 3-3-3 formation, which left them very susceptible to the Alexandrian offence. However, Alexandria couldn't find the back of the net for a third time right up until the final five, despite Lassana-Traoré and Modrem's persistent attempts on goal. The win, and Alexandria's advancement, was secured via Álexis Carrasco, who was at hand for a simple header from Modrem's perfect corner to the forward's crouch in the middle of the mixer. Interland will want to save some blushes against Zandarijn next, with Alexandria-Senya being a decider for who tops Group C.

Group standings can be found here...Austbard 1-2 Gerenia
14' - E. Torinal
52' - O. Mársico
58' - O. Mársico
Osvaldo Mársico's second-half brace turned the game around for the Gerenians to leave them on the brink of advancing from the group, with Austbard's plucky effort not good enough to keep them in knock-out contention. Austbard performed gallantly throughout the game, and deservedly took the lead after 14 minutes, with Eiman Torinal being too strong for Jan Korau and powering in a header at the front post from Salomon Wowes' corner from the right. Torinal remained the biggest threat for the "Icefloe Yodellers" and a second was denied by Korau's last-ditch tackle just before the break, a matter of minutes after Zelmar Toscano's free-kick skimmed the outside of Werner Posen's left-hand post.
While Austbard held their lead going into half time, they were soon behind coming out of it. Osvaldo Mársico matched his Copa Apollonia total within six minutes to bring Gerenia ahead. Seven minutes after the restart, some good possession from Gerenia moulded a move forward which saw Toscano find Lisardo Ramos, who delivered a curling cross in right to the feet of Mársico, who controlled well before poking a finish past Posen, whose flailing limbs couldn't block it. As soon as the game got back underway, Mársico added a second after catching Gert Lauenhauser napping and stealing the ball from the defender with a swift tackle, leaving him with a standard one-on-one finish squeezed between Posen and his near post. With half an hour left, the action was far from over, and further chances fell to Gerenia's Zelmar Toscano and Francesco Valencia, while Torinal and Almatin went closest for Austbard, forcing Arien Jangare out of his comfort zone to save. Neither a third to put the game beyond doubt or an equaliser occurred, however, and Austbard will be going home early, leaving Gerenia with the task of getting at least a draw from Tellia in the last round of matches.

Group standings can be found here...Indokistan 0-3 Craitland
64' - M. Mortensen
84' - F. Gaärsen
89' - Y. Ali-Assam (o.g.)
Hosts Indokistan said goodbye to their World Cup campaign with a whimper, after holding-out for the majority of the match against an already-through Craitland. The Craits gave starts to a few squad players in this final group match, with Freddie Gaärsen and Tim Isrdlvarien rested after scoring a goal each in the win over Elwynn, as Indokistan put-out their strongest team to hopefully salvage some points. The first half was quite a tight affair, with Indokistan playing some good passes to a good home atmosphere. However, Craitland had the lion's share of goalscoring opportunities, and Tór Fredriksen had efforts both wide and saved by Muhammad Iqaba. Indokistan's only clear-cut opportunity was pelted over the bar from inside the box by Ali Akbar's rushed swing.
The second 45 began in a similar vein, with the hosts' well-worked moves ending in some poor finishing and final deliveries. The game sprung into life just after the hour mark following Gaärsen's addition in the place of Fredriksen, with the new partnership benefiting from the former's pace injection immediately. A ball upfield was flicked on by Mortensen and Gaärsen controlled and made his way into the channel before picking out Mortensen in return with a floated cross. Mortensen's height advantage paid dividends, and a towering header found the top-right corner with placement. Whether it was the goal or the effort in keeping the Craits quiet for over an hour, Indokistan showed fatigue from then onwards, with Gaärsen causing a lot of trouble in the final third, getting a goal of his own in the final ten. After laying-off to Lydveldt Loresen, Gaärsen received the ball back and skipped through Rotar Menne's tackle before finishing smoothly into the bottom-right off his instep for his third in three games. The match ended with more disappointment for the hosts, who by the final whistle were on their knees, with Yeyu Ali-Assam putting into his own net a minute before the end. Another Craitish attack fell to Gaärsen, whose shot from the "D" was slightly off-target before skimming Ali-Assam's thigh and bouncing in off the left post with Iqaba scrambling in vain. Although Gaärsen claimed it, it was cruelly, albeit rightly, accredited to 35 year-old Ali-Assam. While a sombre end to the hosts' tournament, Craitland progress as group winners, and Indokistan still has plenty of world-class football to play home to yet.

Mercury 2-0 Taeland
17' - J. Foxon
31' - S. Rydberg
Mercury proved their dominance over Group B with a third straight 2-0 victory to top the table without conceding, leaving the Taes to be separated from Birgeshir on tiebreaking criteria. The game's action came primarily in the first half with Mercury not holding back with their place in the quarter-finals still not officially guaranteed. On-song striker Matt Fitzgerald almost scored his fourth of the tournament after just five minutes, but could only hit the side of the netting from the angle. His strike partner and team captain Joe Foxon made no such error just twelve minutes later, with a well-timed run being matched by a Wilmont Fizeau-Blake through ball for Foxon to clatter in to the top-left corner with a first-time shot just inside the box. Mercury persisted onward, with Fitzgerald and Fizeau-Blake combining well but to no avail. With just over half an hour played, the score was doubled thanks to Stephen Rydberg, with Fizeau-Blake's involvement key again. Foxon chased a long clearance downfield into the right corner and Fizeau-Blake gave an option in support to cross in, which he did. With Foxon out of position, Rydberg stepped forward and met the delivery with a chest before calmly passing the ball into the centre of the goal beside Aaron Mor. Fitzgerald was a continual threat, but wasn't able to put in a third.
The second half witnessed Taeland trying to analyse the best tactical approach, with Tim Turner isolated on his own upfront but the Mercurians still pressing for more. When news of the other game's score filtered through, the Taes had even more to think about with the mathematics of goal difference coming more into play. After a period of uncertainty, which saw substitute Edward Foxon have a shot from a short free-kick land on the roof of the net, Taeland brought Alex Gomze on to partner Turner. While the pair were more incisive on the break, Kieran Mercury made a fingertip save to stop Gomze scoring with ten minutes remaining. Mercury closed ranks in the final stages, wanting to maintain an enviable record of three group clean sheets, which they achieved as Turner was again marked out of the game. A model performance from Mercury left Taeland at the mercy of the Safiria-Birgeshir result, and were unfortunate that their opening game defeat was the deciding factor on who advanced with the Mercurians to the knock-out rounds.

Interland 1-0 Zandarijn
66' - M. Gazetowicz
Interland and Zandarijn went into this dead-rubber match with only pride to play for with both guaranteed an early trip home without having yet to even register a goal between them. This game showed why neither side had troubled the scorekeepers before now. A drab affair which bore neither quality goalkeeping nor good defensive management as a means of lowering the score; just poorly flowing moves and lacklustre finishing. The first half served-up only one save, with Arjen Kleusen palming Marian Wyzywan's hopeful looping header over the bar with ease.
While the second half did eventually produce a goal for one positive for the crowd to witness, there was little change either side of it to make note of. The goal itself came from replacement forward Mariusz Gazetowicz, who was left unmarked and onside by some poor Zandt defending to be found by Oskar Łapacz, where a simple control and left-footed low shot dealt the blow past Kleusen. Zandarijn's offence was equally as poor as their back line was in conceding, and failed to register an entire shot on target throughout the match, despite Interland missing Krzysztof Łukasz in defence through suspension. With the match's end, Interland take three points home with them at least, while Zandarijn's inability to score in any of their games leaves them as the first team to record neither a point nor a goal in a World Cup finals since Monovia in 2006.

Mercury 3-2 Elwynn
11' - R. Emiri
30' - W. Fizeau-Blake
38' - S. Rydberg
64' - D. Sakhimzedeh
83' - J. Partridge
Last year's runners-up Mercury survived a scare from débutants Elwynn to secure a second consecutive semi-final appearance, but lost their clean sheet record for the tournament. Elwynn began the game with high spirits and caught the Mercurians unaware early on, with the match's first on-target shot finding its way past Kieran Mercury in goal. Razdjani Emiri was picked-out by Peyman Eslamzadeh's accurate angled lob forward, and the forward had no trouble in sliding the ball through Mercury and in one-on-one. Elwynn continued to press forward, showing no signs of nerves, but some Mercurian defensive coördination halted their quest for a quick second. With the half-hour mark near, Mercury managed to steal an equaliser following some solid Elwynnese play. The Group B winners forced a corner from Folki Öldrikkari's saved from Joe Foxon's shot, and Wilmont Fizeau-Blake swung it in. Although cleared by Arvið Frå Bakkinon, the ball dropped to Stephen Rydberg, who sprayed it wide to Fizeau-Blake again. The wideman took one touch to bring the ball inside slightly before releasing a cracking, curled effort with his left boot from the top corner of the box which flew past Öldrikkari and into the opposite side of the net. Fizeau-Blake's strike shifted momentum for a short while, time enough during which Mercury were able to take the lead before the break. Fizeau-Blake was again involved, with a cutting run past Frå Bakkinon before a low cross back inside, which was met by Rydberg first time. The midfielder's contact level with the near post managed to dink the ball just inside the upright from eight yards to nestle in the net with Öldrikkari motionless. While Elwynn hit back before half time, Emiri's run clear ended with a low shot wide of the base of the left post.
The second half opened with Mercury dominant, but with futile efforts at increasing their lead which came back to bite them halfway through the 45. Both Joe Foxon and his striker partner Matt Fitzgerald, who had scored five between them in the group stages, were unable to have any effect in the final third, with the former's best chance being a rushed chip which Öldrikkari had no troubles in parrying over the bar. Rydberg also registered a shot from distance before the hour mark, but the ball ended-up a few feet wide of the target. With approximately twenty minutes of the half played, it was Elwynn's turn to draw level, thanks to Dario Sakhimzedeh's opportunistic reactions to a defensive mishap. Emiri earnt a corner after having a run out wide stopped by Jason Cameron, whose touch took it behind, with the set piece being taken by Håkon hin Ældri. Hin Ældri's delivery was initially claimed by 'keeper Mercury it seemed, but the ball found its way free within a scrum of players colliding in the middle of the box. Although Stephen Charlton attempted a clearance, it rebounded off the torso of Emiri, and Sakhimzedeh's immediate reaction to stick out a leg deflected the ball into the ground to bounce into the unguarded net. Despite their positive approach in the first half, after getting back into the game again, Elwynn were more reserved and Mercury created more chances once more. Fitzgerald was replaced by Jack Partridge with twelve minutes to go, and the substitute, who recently sealed a move to Dynamo Deacon, was an inspired change ultimately. An attack formulated by Rydberg and Joe Foxon's combination was finished with a deep cross by Fizeau-Blake, picking-out Partridge unmarked at the back post. Partridge's acrobatic diving header directed the ball upward, just under the crossbar, and into the top of the goal, as Elwynn's stopper tried his best to get near it backpedalling. The final ten minutes were nerve-wracking for the Mercurians whose committed defending saw Jason Cameron and Chris Deacon both booked for tough fouls as the back four held-out for the victory, which came after some lengthy stoppage time. Mercury can count themselves lucky with this win, given how they advanced from their group with relative ease, but will need to be at the top of their game whoever they face in the semis, while Elwynn's first World Cup can definitely be considered a successful one with a good display and a knock-out rounds appearance.
