I joined the SCUE, now what?
The SCUE is an excellent way to start or extend your economy, because it gives you a ready built bank and an internationally recognised currency, allowing instant trades with everyone from A1 to Victoria. What it doesn't do is suddenly give your nation a working economy. It's a currency, not a miracle.
So you've joined the SCUE: you've told Andreas what provinces your nation has and he's added them to the bank; you've given him a list of the citizens your nation is bringing into the SCUE, and registered a government account; and he's given you your starting money. You have anywhere from 7500 to 97500 sitting in your government account. Now what?
Now is the bit where you set up your nation's economy. You might have some special plan of how to do so - if you do, awesome. Run with that. If you don't, here are my top 5 tips for starting up.
1. Get all your citizens to register bank accounts and give them some starting money, like 2000 each.
People can't buy if they don't have any money to buy things with - the number one thing you need to do to start your economy is to get starting money to your citizens so they can do something with it.
2. Set up an Economy subforum on your forum and start people creating companies.
Many micronationalists love the idea of owning their own company. Create a place for them to do it and watch what they do. If they're having trouble thinking what they can sell, have a look at my Economic Ideas post, which details just about everything I can imagine you doing. You're sure to find at least something there, and feel free to invent even more things. Get people starting companies and selling stuff to eachother and you're well on the way to a working economy!
3. Look at what you can buy and sell internationally.
Let's face it, none of us have 100 person nations who can sustain a whole economy by themselves. The beauty of the SCUE is that it links up our smaller nations into something bigger, and allows you to buy and sell across the world. Have a look here or at big nations you know for their economic forums - see if there's anything they're selling you want to buy; or see if they're asking to buy something you can sell. People sometimes post big tenders on these forums for things they want to buy; and Bastion Union contains six SCUE nations you can buy and sell from. There's also a company list with links to various micronational companies.
4. Start paying government bounties.
If nobody else is buying stuff, the government can always step in. Government bounties are a way for a government to reward people for contributing to the nation; as well as getting people more excited about the economy and willing to spend money because they have more now. Check out the bottom of my Economic Ideas for more information on bounties.
5. Do up economic legislation.
Plan your tax system. Draw up legislation for contracts. Create a form for business registration. There's a lot of scope for economic legislation to add to the depth of your micronational simulation. Just make sure you keep the balance right between depth of simulation and complexity of requirements to actually use your economy.
So there you are - 5 simple tips to kickstart your economy. So if you're one of those nations that joined the SCUE and has been sitting with lots of funds in a government account ever since, now you know how to go from a new start to soon become one of the economic powerhouses of Micras!
