Map
Not a claim, but there aren't any suggestion threads. All of our maps are Mercator Projections which means that we've never really seen what Micras actually looks like. I say we (mostly you) should start working on a globe, or a Robinson Projection for a new perspective of what the actual proportions are.

Re: Map
"Complaints Desk" is the closest we have for suggestions
In all fairness, I'm not sure it's ever been completely established what projection the claimsmap uses. I believe people presume it's Mercator due to familiarity or because of the axes, but the latter are only for coördinations rather than showing projection, and the legend has a standard area for each pixel. This'd make it an equal-area projection, and would distort the polar regions considerably differently than if it were Mercator - which (I think) is why the polar projections Barnaby posted stretch the land quite thinly...

And renamed Twilight while we're at it?Ryker wrote:It could be covered in glitter and beads but I purely wish to see the actual (or close to actual) proportions of Micran landmasses.
When Micras was originally drawn, back in 2001, there was no scale, no projection, no anything except a big MS Paint drawing. We had to go back and retcon all this onto the map without distorting it too much. If I had had the skill at the time, I would have fixed it when I did the Atkins Reductions and pissed the whole world off (long story).
Re: Map
However, I think we should get rid of the standard area, and replace it with a standard height (ie The distance from the top to bottom of 1 pixel is constant anywhere on Micras but the east-to-west distance varies on proximity to the poles). This would make it much easier to make hemispheral projections of Micras and 3D Models.Craitman wrote:"I believe people presume it's Mercator due to familiarity or because of the axes, but the latter are only for coördinations rather than showing projection, and the legend has a standard area for each pixel.
