Re: Rugby League International Test:Mercury vs Florian Republic
The men's game followed the women's match, and Mercury were worried that the result was going to go the same way after 15 minutes, with the Florians going into a 10-0 lead early on, but hosts were able to hit back through Alan Clark to cut the deficit to 4 points. The Florians scored again before half time, and thought they'd scored another to extend their lead further, but the video referee ruled their effort out due to a knock-on in the build-up.
In the second half, Mercury came out of the blocks the quickest, and three unanswered tries gave them the lead (24-16) for the first time in the game. The visitors added a penalty goal after Anthony Mason was called for a high tackle, then levelled the scores through captain Rhys Baxter. Ultimately, the Mercurians experience paid dividends though, as two late tries sealed the match in their favour, with a perfect kicking performance Robert Cooper proving to be invaluable to the home side.
Mercury 36–24 Florian Republic
