2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors

Re: 2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors
I thought about trolling this pissing contest but then I remembered that people actually put stock into these awards! That being said, what does being a sponsor entail?

I've found that a good rule of thumb to follow in micronations is that no matter how long you've been involved, it's never wise to insult someone/something that's been around before you wereNick wrote:I thought about trolling this pissing contest

Which is why I ceased and then remembered that it is the perfect opportunity to shamelessly whore out my latest micronational company .

Re: 2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors
I don't think the Fnords are a pissing contest, per se. I've never seen someone swagger around going "Worship me, I won a FNORD, people." But it's nice to get recognition for your work sometimes, and it's equally nice to get a chance to thank others and tell them how much you enjoy what they've been doing.
As for the sponsorship, you'd bid some amount of money, and if it's enough and no one bids more, we'll plug your company or project during the awards ceremony, and it will be remembered throughout micronational history as the sponsor of the 2011 Fnords. Right now all you have to do is bid money.

Actually, I don't think we need a conversion rate if there's no present. SCUE don't have the buying power of real money - because they can't be used to buy real things, and vice versa, you wouldn't pay, say, 3000$ for a bunch of pictures and a story to arm your soldiers

People pay for fantasy all the time. The advent of the e-book has ushered in an era where the literature, not the physical book, is the commodity.
I'd be willing to sponsor $10 - $15. This way if actual medals are made again this year everyone has to pay $2 - $3 less for theirs.

HEY YOU! YOU IN CHARGE!
I want to know if I can be a judge or not. If yes, I will not nominate anyone (it just doesn't feel right judging something I have myself nominated). If no, I'll just nominate my favourites

Since Alexandria has no nominations, I'd be willing to be a judge. I have done it before, if needed, I would gladly be one again.

I'm happy to be a judge, and also to refuse nominations to myself for the Economics award (though I'd accept a nomination for a technical award for SCX work).

I accept Montague, Daniel, Andreas, and Edgard as judges (we still have room for one more, or if not I'll be the last one), but I humbly beg Daniel to still do nominations - we need as many nominees as possible. Think of it as alerting the judges to options they may not remember, rather than pushing for someone.

Can a single item be nominated for multiple categories? Now that I think of it the Primer qualifies for cultural development as much, if not more, than literature.

Re: 2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors
Since Scott wants more nominations, I'll nominate:
Liam conToketi Award for Most Promising New Micronationalist - I second the nomination for Illuminarch Nicholas of Eruditia, for many excellent posts and cultural developments (he joined our boards Dec 15 2010, so I think that counts as within the range. He wasn't nominated last year).
Iain Jacobson Award for Journalism - A1 News Service. They have the level of output and passion for articles we haven't seen since INS days.
- also Ray of Light News for some cool stuff, and again persistence in publishing.
Andreas the Wise Award for Economics - Nick, for his continued efforts to promote economic activity (and a whole host of Normarkian companies).
Josh Coales Award for Best New Idea - I third the nomination for Archipelago.
Jeremy Bellamy Award for Literature - Gerk (and others) for The People of Gralus vs Nargoth, a truly exceptional micronational trial
Bill Dusch Award for Cultural Development - Gman Russell, for the Nelagan Army Guide to the Undisciplined
Rebecca Panks Award for the Graphic Artz - Harvey Steffke, for his Voice of Bastion. He also did some cool Control of Destiny 2 art, but I'm not sure he uploaded them. Harvey, if you're reading this and don't mind, can you link us to that?
Shane Odlum Award for Overall Achievement - Harvey Steffke, for some excellent work as the unofficial/official/murdered/unofficial Voice of Bastion, as well as excellent development of the Favoured (one of the most succesful Archipelago states) (I don't think Harvey has won this before so he's eligible - if he has won it before and I haven't noticed, I'll retract the nomination).
@Ailin - Normally I think pick one for a single item. The same person can get nominated for multiple things, but different stuff for each (with the obvious exception of the Odlum).

Well then I remove my literary nomination and put the Primer up for cultural development.
