I was also extremely confused by CJ's nomination for that category, as were the judges.

It seems silly to need reasons at ALL for overall achievement. And I think it shouldn't be a shared award, even if it's the only award that isn't shared. Makes it more special.
Maybe just split the Ari/Scott nomination into two separate nominations for overall excellence.

Since there's only one person up for most promising new micronation/micronationalist, I would like to nominate my Micronation, Riverstone, and myself for Micronationalist.
The honorable president of Riverstone.

Wow, it's been so long! I apologize for my inactivity; there were extenuating circumstances.
I am so grateful for my suggested and seconded nomination for Most Promising Micronationalist and for Journalism; the Ray of Light is my philosophically swaddled baby, and I'm glad that it's received at least some recognition (I guess you can consider that a second, although I'm not sure if I can second my own nomination, though I was nominated by someone else)! If you haven't checked (although I know some of you have posted excellent comments to them), I've continued to write some articles in the Ray of Light that are beginning to gain some traction.
Andreas is correct; while my name was thrown around for my ideas/writing in last year's FNORDs, I was too new to be nominated, so I wasn't suggested for any of the awards.
I'd be willing to sponsor money for the medals this year!
I'd like to second/third/fourth(?) the nomination of Scott for Archipelago. I'd also like to second the Diary of Preturnatural, the First Awake.

Yes, I know that, but if I'm the only person to nominate myself, then I don't really deserve to win. If the judges happened to pick me for it having only been nominated by myself, then most people would be complaining, so I'd rather not let that happen.King Ailin of Uantir wrote:It's not like the judges have any say in the matter.

What's bad about that? Awards are given, because there is an agreement over who is the most deserving. If I'm the only person who nominates myself, when there are other people who have been seconded and thirded, then I shouldn't be in contention.King Ailin of Uantir wrote:Ouch.joefoxon wrote:Yes, I know that, but if I'm the only person to nominate myself, then I don't really deserve to win.

Re: 2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors
I think he said "ouch" because you effictively said his work wasn't worthy of a FNORD just because it was self-nominated. There's nothing wrong with nominating yourself and not getting seconded; you could have done some amazing work which most people might not have got the chance to see yet! The judges don't take seconds into account if we're honest - we're there to give our own personal opinions on the nominations, not just listen to the crowd!
A mediocre piece of work posted in one of the larger nations could get more nominations than a great piece that was done in a two-man nation just because more people saw it. That's no indication at all that it's more likely to win the award

I just don't like the idea of being up for an award that nobody thinks I should get.
I'll keep my nomination, out of respect then.

But that's the point I was making; just because nobody seconded your nomination, that doesn't mean nobody thinks you deserve the award. Who wins the awards is down to the judges, and they vote on their own opinions, not on who has the most seconds, otherwise there'd be no need for judges in the first placejoefoxon wrote:I just don't like the idea of being up for an award that nobody thinks I should get.

Re: 2011 Fnords: Judges, nominations, sponsors
Well I can't imagine my nomination being taken THAT seriously anyway, so I suppose we both win

That about sums it up. I'm glad to hear you're sticking to it.Craitman wrote:I think he said "ouch" because you effictively said his work wasn't worthy of a FNORD just because it was self-nominated.

Heh, I just saw this. If I'd won, I probably wouldn't have even known.
