Brand New Micronation Idea
Just let me know what you guys think about this idea.
Firstly & most importantly, this micronation would be self sufficient from tourism and some export.
Tourism would come due to the legalisation of marijuana which would attract some tourism from the UK (which this micronation would be based close to). The legalisation of marijuana would hopefully make this micronation a cheap holiday for students looking for a good time & since marijuana is easy enough to grow, I could make a situation such as in Amsterdam, where you sell certain amounts of it in "coffee shops".
The export side of self sufficiency would come from either soft wood plantations or something else, probably something food orientated such as farming. Either one of these "export" businesses would produce something that is needed in the micronation so trade could start within the community aswell as neighboring countries.
In the micronation itself there would be its own currency, which is needed to buy anything in it, this would start to create a stable economy as tourists need to purchase the currency in order to stay & buy stuff.
The only way onto the micronation ( which would probably be a small island roughly 3-5 miles off the coast of England so that it's out of its jurisdiction & be small enough to not be worth the bother or conquering it ) would be via speedboat, meaning that the potential tourist would need to be picked up from the English coast of taken on a short journey to the beach of my micronation ( further along would become a ferry service and docks when funds are available ).
Once on the island the only viable transport option would be via quad bikes untill suitable roads could be paved, these quad bikes could be hired from shops on the island for a day / week ect. Other entertainment options would hopefully include jet ski-ing, nightclubs, paintballing & other nightlife, shopping & things such as entertainers that can perform things such as fire juggling ect ect. Now this may be mainly based on students however it is easier to appeal to these and money can be made untill a secure infrastructure can be made.
The "nightlife" area of the island would be as far away from the main city as possible, with the first road going from the city to the nightlife to keep property values up and to keep perminate residents happy. However, as hotels would be situated in the city region there would have to be a transport system to take people to and from the nightlife which I think would probably be a bus service ( obviously depending on the size of the island, if to small it could become pointless ).
Now the part about electricity would come from a solar farm and a off shore wind farm, as well as petrol generators as backup.
Give me some C&C and what improvements you'd make on this micronation

Marijuana is tough to legalize without some other nation getting pissed. Most western nations absolutely hate marijuana trade. I don't think you'd get far without being labelled a terrorist if you tried to establish a micronation on legalization of marijuana. Actually, you probably wouldn't even get that far. See the thread Nick pointed out.
Although, if this somehow worked (which it wouldn't), it sounds pretty cool.

The only real similarity i can see is that he also wants to legalize marijuana. For one i don't want to live in the jungle? Perhaps the way to electricity is similar too, but there aren't to many of them to pick from, short of spending millions making a power plant running off coal what other viable options are there apart from wind & solar?Nick wrote:Hi, you sound really familiar. Most western society's don't hate marijuana they just simple have no need for it, just think about this. Marijuana is less dangerous than both tobacco & alcohol (which has been scientifically proven BY western societies, which when they found these results they fired the scientists whom publicised them ). However, since the government makes hundreds of millions on tobacco tax, maybe even billions ( which can't be grown in this country ) why would they legalise marijuana? A drug that most would smoke instead tobacco which can also be grown very simply in ones home, if they did legalise this now, they'd be losing so much money and all the negative propaganda about marijuana would result in that country having a new government / president once his "contract" expires.Parker I wrote:Marijuana is tough to legalize without some other nation getting pissed. 1. Marijuana use does not cause violent crime and anti-social behaviour in the way that alcohol does
2. In recorded medical history there has never been a single recorded case of marijuana overdose.
3. Marijuana has many proven medical applications including in the treatment of eating disorders, depression, mania, bipolar disorder, anxiety and panic disorders, loss of appetite associated with chemotherapy or HIV medication, and pain relief.
4. By removing marijuana from the black market and bringing it above ground, organised crime groups would lose a major source of their revenue, reducing criminal activity.
5.We have spent billions of dollars wasting law enforcement and judicial effort on enforcing petty cannabis laws. Instead of wasting billions of dollars, why not spend the money elsewhere?
So the benefit on my micronation, would be plentiful, I could even pay the British some money for allowing me to be there, there is no harm in a place which is paying you, and has low crime rates. Obviously smuggling could be a problem, however if we did GOOD searching before and after, making a departure area + arrival area we could cut this down as much as possible.
Also, i think the British would leave me be to see how the legalisation of marijuana went, to get statistics of crime rate & potential money gains ect i mean, after all we are in a recession, any money would help, and as they have bigger things to worry about, it would be the right time to declare independence.

If the sale of marijuana should be legalized, please, please do it properly and with good regulations.
Just as many European countries have alcohol shops (state monopoly), I would in my country, if the sale of cannabis would be legalized, sell this in those shops where sale is under regulations, highly taxed and there is proper control that no minors buy it.
Futher, in order not to piss off neighbouring countries, there would be laws against bringing any substance to another country without proper authorization.
Also, it would be illegal to use the marijuana in designated places, perhaps among children, in schools, universities, public transport, etc.
That is what I would do and then resources could be put to more dangerous drugs.
The taxes raised on this sale would help finance the psychiatry, rehabilitation and information on the usage.

Yes, this is a summary of everything I've said about it pretty much, only thing i didn't mention was the illegal to use in designated places, however that's obvious enough it shouldn't need to be said .Prince Daniel wrote:If the sale of marijuana should be legalized, please, please do it properly and with good regulations.

If I recall, the United Kingdom claims outwards up to 12 nautical miles. Then of course there is the issue of the contiguous zone and the exclusive economic zone which can extend to up to 200 nautical miles where it's laws are enforceable up to a point. More than likely, they will brutally enforce said laws against what they would see as a criminal haven. Beyond that, if you made this place very public, which I suspect you will, you invite all manner of danger! Once any kind of criminal element discovers your blip on the map, you will, as I said in the other thread, find yourself either puking and sweating over a gasoline-filled pit making cocaine or rubbing out hashish - as slave labor. You would need a beefy police force and perhaps even a Coast Guard to ensure the safety of your island. I have news: No legitimate arms manufacturer will ever sell you anything simply because you claim to be an independent micronation. You'd need to procure your arms another way, most likely a more unscrupulous way. When the UK government finds out you're arming yourselves they will NOT take this lightly - within their territorial waters or not. Even if it is just handguns they will not look very kindly upon it and you and anyone else you manage to suck into this will face very serious charges (it would look even worse when you had kilos of marijuana AND guns on your little island get-away).
I don't know how you do it in the UK but if you want legal marijuana, contact an MP or save up for a trip to Amsterdam when you can. What you're doing here is the very definition of overkill just so you and some associates can get stoned. I am not against the legalization of the plant in any way, shape or form, but your plan is frankly just plain silly. If you actually tried it you manage getting yourselves in a lot of trouble or perhaps even in a great deal of danger.

Re: Brand New Micronation Idea
As Amsterdam's been mentioned a couple of times, it's probably a good time to tell you that if you want to go to a "coffee shop", you now need to be a Dutch resident and hold a membership card with the one you go to
Re: Brand New Micronation Idea
Well, not really being "in" on that scene, things have apparently changed within the last decade. That said, it does not change my criticism of this plan as the viability of Amsterdam has minimal impact on it's central point: It's a bad idea.

Me neither, quite the opposite actually, but I went in one when I was there a few years ago and I have a couple of friends there who keep me up-to-date with goings-on. It has only come into being at the start this year thoughNick wrote:Well, not really being "in" on that scene, things have apparently changed within the last decade.

I'm sorry this idea has been taken. Many of these "micronations" exist in California...

Its actually 3miles, as the micronation "Sealand" was sent to court for shooting at people, and the court ruled that it was out of the UK's jurisdiction. Which is why im locating this island 3-5miles out.Nick wrote:If I recall, the United Kingdom claims outwards up to 12 nautical miles. Also, saying that about criminal organisations just shows your stupidity and fact you've watched far, far to many films with complete and utter morons ACTING it. Instead of criticizing tiny nacks that you obviously have no idea about how about you stick to what you know and give constructive criticism on that?
However you've actually made me laugh with your stupidity so let me set this straight... Do you honestly think that criminal organisations would try to "invade" a small island which will obviously be guarded with actual weapons & police force (bought through having a gun license and bought through legitimate retailers) aswell as the fact we would be in full contact & co-operation with the UK law on hard drugs and smuggling into the country. So (for arguments sake) a criminal organisation does try to set up shop on our island they would be confronted by our police force & quickly after that be faced with the UK drugs force ( as the UK obviously doesn't want a "smuggling point" 3-5 miles from there country ). Do you honestly think a criminal organisation would risk all this when they can do what there currently doing (seemingly undetected since they are able to come to my island and attempt an invasion in the first place)....

It may be helpful to clarify at this point what Nick meant with the above post. The main similarity, from our perspective, is that you're intending to create your own nation on an actual island in the real world.Micronations. wrote:The only real similarity i can see is that he also wants to legalize marijuana. As Nick put it quite well in the other thread:
"We're primarily a simulationist community, we "have land" on this fictional map and we utilize forums and message boards for government, interaction and the creation of culture and history. You won't find a too terribly warm welcome if you push or otherwise spend your time here promoting this. We've all found that forums and wikis are the best ways to have our own nations. Although, to each his own and I wish you the best possible luck in whatever you pursue."
If you're looking for detailed, constructive criticism on how to start a micronation which claims and enforces its claim to land on Earth, this is not the ideal place. There were other forums which handle that sort of thing, but I can't remember off the top of my head which ones are still active, so I can't help you any further, sorry . I just echo again Nick's sentiments in the quote above. Best of luck, but we won't be joining you.

Re: Brand New Micronation Idea
A little thing called research might've helped you realise the UK's territorial waters were extended from three miles to twelve in 1987. So before you start calling people stupid for giving you plausible hypotheticals about this more-than-improbable weed paradise, you might want to ensure your facts aren't 25 years out-of-date...Micronations. wrote:Its actually 3miles, as the micronation "Sealand" was sent to court for shooting at people, and the court ruled that it was out of the UK's jurisdiction. It's okay guys, I 75% expected someone who thinks they have the wherewithal and clout to succeed in a delusional and hair-brained scheme such as this to respond with hostility. I think it is a sign someone needs to perhaps cut back a little on the Kush - making you paranoid and irritable!
